Above average Greek food. Good small dish concept, you can taste many dishes especially if your group is 4 or more. Traditional dishes could benefit from bolder spicing. A little more adventurous selection would add interest.

Fantastic food - small plates, which added up a lot faster cost-wise than we were thinking, but well worth it. I was introduced to the place by a Greek friend who loves it, so you know it's authentic.
The service this last visit was absolutely phenomenal; the waitress really knocked herself out for us, and they put up with our staying well beyond closing time without the slightest bit of rush.
The only down side was the music was a bit loud, and it was cold upstairs despite the small portable heaters. And the octopus, while very tasty indeed, was not properly prepared, so it was virtually impossible to cut, and like chewing on rubber tires.

The band, Rizes, at Mezes is great! The musicians are very talented and sing many Greek favorites. The service was very good and the wine was very good. However, the food could have been much better. The food varied in quality by dish. My lamb souvaliki meat was tough. My friend's gyros was not good at all, however, lamb chops that another friend had were good. Also, a working espresso machine is a must and if it isn't, a least have a briki around so that you can make Greek coffee. The experience overall was outstanding due to the beautiful Greek music, our waitress, the intimate setting and ambience of a neighborhood restaurant, and being with good friends.

My folks are in town for the holidays. My Dad requested Greek restaurants, a dangerous proposition since he's an excellent Greek cook. On the recommendation of a friend we tried Mezes.
We ordered Saganaki cheese to start. It was really salty and cool, not the melty lemony dish we all love. The Avgolemono soup was meh, my folks said it was average. My Dad ordered 2 lamb chops. They were overcooked, more well done than the medium he ordered. We also ordered lamb souvlaki to share. On the plate were two skewers of nicely grilled lamb with red peppers and red onions between. So far so good, we thought. We found the lamb flavorless and tough but the veggies crunchy and sweet. Definitely not the Greek meal we were hoping for.

Previously liked Mezes, but was not impressed this time. Used to have a great GR wine list, now there are just a few mediocre over priced wine choices. Portions were small, and prices high for what you get. While tasty, not a good value for the money. Definite a very good kids menu and I would come again for that!
