They assured complete culinary enjoyment(if I can say it that way). Suffice to say the food and experience was great and we made the show on time. When we arrived the restaurant was almost empty but it filled up (on a cold Tuesday night)and the atmosphere got really lively. Audacious, tasty dishes (great ceviche, scallops, duck heart, tongue, porc) along with some friendly service. Here is a place where the food tastes and looks amazing, with rich flavours bursting from every dish and leaving you with vivid culinary memories. I have been to a lot of the top restaurants in town, and Montreal is full of great places, yet I had not been wowed like this in a while. I cannot recommend it strongly enough. I'm almost tempted to temper my enthusiasm lest it leads me to be unable to secure a table there ever again... My group chose the "special menu" for $49 and tasted a wide variety of items being unfamiliar with the choices off the regular menu. It was a great idea. We all loved the presentation and variety....and the explanations made by our server too. The pisco sours we had to start off with were refreshing and sublime. It is what I consider a pricey restaurant.....with wine, my meal alone was over $80 before tip. So be prepared. I especially loved the Ceviche and the scallops. Can't tell you what they were made with but the taste was delish....will definitely return once I've saved some more money!5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a surprise!This little restaurant was a happy place where the food was fresh and so tasty, the service was pleasant and attentive, and the overall ambience, cozy, although a little tight. The menu, all in French, was a little difficult to decipher, not because it was in French, but because it was French WITH Peruvian cooking ingredients and style descriptions. Luckily for us, our waiter was very patient and explained nearly 3/4 of the menu. Our big, or should I say, little, surprise-the duck heart in a spicy sauce, compliments of the chef! We were expecting fresh latin flavours but did not expect the sophisticated integration of south american herbs and spices with les produits des terroirs. The flavour & texture combinations were astonishingly good starting with the amuse bouche of chargrilled duck heart served atop a chipotle cream. Our table of five decided to try out the 5-course chef's tasting menu, which surprised and delighted our taste buds at every course ending with a deliciously rich dulce de leche-avocado ice cream dessert with chocolate nuggets of goodness buried inside. I have been to many "hot spots" and trendy restaurants in Montreal. This one was truly special because the food, in my opinion, was one of the most creative and unique experiences I have ever had. Albeit the portions were pretty small but my friends and I opted for the special tasting menu so we were given 5 very unique dishes each and that is why the portions were perhaps smaller then if you order directly off the menu. The textures, flavors and types of foods in each dish were like an explosion of greatness in your mouth with every single bite. Great room, friendly staff. I will definitely eat there again on any future visits to Montreal.
My only negative comments are that we were told that they don't do cocktails..... And then saw some delicious looking pisco sours going by our table when we were 3/4 of the way through our meal.......Epic fail!!!! Apparently they are suggested to everyone, but somehow we were missed. It looked like the staff were having an off night, we were seated by the pass and there was a fair amount of bickering and flayed tempers on display.
