MexiqueWhat a place! This place is extraordinary. You wouldn't expect to find food of this caliber without having to spend and arm and a leg.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMEasily understood the Michelin starUnique flavors and great menu choices. Attentive service. This was a repeat visit and will continue to be on top of our restaurant list.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food, poor serviceAmazing food, but very poor and slow service. For example the busser did not put our plates center in front of us, and threw our utensils on the side near our plates. Fortunately for Mexique, the food was excellent, and I would still consider returning.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFantásticoWe had a great time in MEXIQUE we are a Group of restaurant owners in México

I was very impressed with my meal here. Service was attentive and friendly and every dish was delicious, from the cochinitas rilletes and a strikingly pungent garlic soup with pickled radishes to start the meal, to a hearty and delicious rack of lamb accompanied by braised lamb shoulder sope and sweet and spicy eggplant topped with sheep's feta for my entree. Several of the dishes intrigued me and were unlike anything I'd ever seen on a menu before. Based on the excellent meal I had here, I plan on returning soon to try more. This is one of the most affordable Michelin-starred restaurants in town and definitely deserves the honor.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMInnovative French-MexicanInnovative French-Mexican fusuion food, very well done4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was prettier than itFood was prettier than it was tasty, but very pretty.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service at MexiqueThe food and service at Mexique was excellent! Very creative kitchen-wise and simply delicious food, it was a wonderful dinner. Service is a little lacking perhaps it was just a bit of inexperience. However, the Chef made up by treating us to salted caramel ice cream. Will definitely visit again soon.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe restaurant was empty whenThe restaurant was empty when I entered it, as its first, customer, on Sunday morning 10 am. Last time we had the tasting menu with wine pairings which was great. This time we decided to go off the menu which was also great. My husband really enjoyed his lamb and I the skate.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Brunch! We went for Sunday Brunch. The only issue I can list was the fact that I had to make a choice between so many interesting options. I thought I had my mind made up, and then I turned the menu over.....
The food lived up to the descriptions, I had the chorizo and egg crepes which just melted in my mouth. My friend had the French Toast with seasonal fruit and was also very pleased. Beautiful presentation and the perfect server for a lazy Sunday afternoon.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMReally amazing food and service.Really amazing food and service. Everything we ordered was delicious - even my non-alcoholic fancy drink. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu. We appreciated the time the waiter took explaining the food and the chef coming by to ask us how everything was. Definitely a new favorite.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery one of our 4 main coursesEvery one of our 4 main courses was perfect with great flavors and cooked exectly as ordered. The Duck is the best in town. Friendly service. Can get noise when full but do not miss it.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA brunch for all culturesBrunch is my favorite meal of the week, so I am always looking for new places to try out. Found this place online--the menu looked great and appropriately priced, so I invited a group of friends to try it out. The quality, flavor and presentation of the food was fantastic (you must try the housemade chorizo sopes!)and I believe everyone cleaned their plates (all of whom are from different countries with different palates--Australia, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Mexico, and Spain)! The staff was also very accomodating of our large group--which grew twice. I was surprised by the lack of other people there at the time, but perhaps it was because it was the day before Easter. Highly recommend and will return!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe opted for the tasting forWe opted for the tasting for the whole table, even though we weren't required to, and it made for an expensive evening. The food was as advertised, Mexican with a French touch, certainly a new experience. With six courses, a couple of them substantial, it was a bit too much food for the older members of our family party. At first I was a bit puzzled by the fact that, even though more than wine and beer were offered, only one tequila-based cocktail was available - however that one was perfectly attuned to the food that followed so it became part of the whole dining experience. We were quite surprised and happy that the chef-owner came to our table to ask about our experience. A great addition to the Chicago dining scene.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely amazing experience.Absolutely amazing experience. Food was delicious and presentation was outstanding. My husband had the 6 course chef's selection
and every course blew us away. Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive and the chef even came out to say hello, shake our hands, and answer any questions. Overall excellent restaurant that I would recommend to anyone who loves flavor and art on a plate.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMTo quote my colleague's phraseTo quote my colleague's phrase during dinner, "the meal was shockingly good!" We all had the tasting menu. Each course was presented and described very well, but the treat was eating! The balance of flavors was just right, from a sweet and savory pork belly to lamb chops with just enough heat to appreciate. Dessert came too quickly, but I was just comfortably full (whereas some tasting menus will leave you in search of a taco truck!). As it was Tuesday, another unexpected bonus was that all wine by the bottle was half price. Our server did not disappoint with his recommendations.
I have already booked Easter brunch with my family. I look forward to returning to see how the menu and food evolve. I trust Chef Carlos Gaytan to delive3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent. a review and updateexcellent. a review and update of Mexican cuisine.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is fantastic - veryThe food is fantastic - very inventive and incredibly refreshing. Duck was absolutely delicious - a couple of seared pieces, a leg confit, with very good mix of mexican/french flavors. The lamb was cooked perfectly, still pink medallion. The Pork belly/scallops were also amazing. The belly + cabbage in one bite was the most delicious thing I have had in a while. Scallops were a little overdone - forgettable but it was the only miss. Skate wing also beautifully done. Going back to appetizers - the tartare was tasty. Mussels also very good, although the chorizo flavors are a little lost in the cream sauce.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial and Delicious!Everything so special and delicious! Each dish so flavorful and creative with beautiful
presentation. From sopa appetizers to their signature cocktail, entrees and deserts: all memorable! Can't wait to return!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food - perfect flavours.Fantastic food - perfect flavours. But - Limited wine list. Very cheerful happy service but not the most knowledgeable. I really like this place but I'm not sure it's Michelin star worthy for the whole package.
We ordered ceviche for the table to share as we waited for other dishes. It arrived in a bowl that was quite full of liquid. Amazing flavours. But we asked the server how we should eat it (we only had forks) and she said "i dont know, as you wish!"
We asked for a wine recommendation and got another misguided reply. They servers were really enthusiastic and friendly, just didn't seem too knowledgeable about the menu.
If you do go, have the trio of sopes... delicious - absolutely star worthy :-)3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMDifficult to find parkingDifficult to find parking if you go on a day when there is no valet parking3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWent during Chef's week andWent during Chef's week and will definitely be back.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for lunchReally quite during lunch, probably because it's kind of out-of-the-way. Good spot to spend a long dinner.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe lunch menu is interestingThe lunch menu is interesting and varied. The tacos are delicious, and you can pick up to 3 different ones. I've been here several times for dinner, and will now return for lunch as well.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe decided to have dinnerWe decided to have dinner here for two as i had being hearing a lot of buzzing and read all positive reviews. The food was extraordinary. We did not like were we were seated. The table was right by the door and next to the booth of the lady that assigns your seat. The Restaurant did not have margaritas or micheladas. I find these drinks at all Mexican restaurants. They mostly have wines from Argentina and France. Limited drink selection. Considerable drive from the loop.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is wonderful andThe food is wonderful and the service is great. Worth the effort to come and dine! The sopes, duck, and chocolate enchiladas were very good. Sangria and flank steak were a bit of a dissapointment. Great presentation and attentive service.2/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWow! Amazing food! We wereWow! Amazing food! We were blown away! This place takes its food to the next level. They take something and cook it to perfection and then take it to the push the flavor envelope. The service was great, even though they were swamped you felt like they were paying all their attention on you. The chef even went around and checked on everyone. The flavors and intense and fit together perfectly. I can't wait to go back! Get the Chocolate Enchiladas!2/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing cuisineCreative food, beautiful presentation and an outstanding chef at the head of it all. Very creative and delicious food - always a wonderful surprise when we bring our friends to a "Mexican" restaurant. The restaurant week menu was wonderful and we enjoyed great service.2/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is one of my favoriteThis is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. The sauces are always interesting and complex. We enjoyed the onion soup, swordfish cerviche, duck, and venison. Each dish was distinctive and delicious. The 1/2 off wine on Tuesdays is a great value. We have experienced the tasting menu several times, and the variety is always a delight.1/22/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable lunchLunch was memorable: onion soup with a slight kick & wonderful flavor; 3 tacos chosen from list of 6, lamb, salmon, tilapia (duck, pork, etc.). Huachiles(?): I don't remember the name but get the beef. Inventive, great burger. Go!12/20/2012 12:00:00 AMGoing backWhat a treat to go for weekend brunch/late lunch. It was quiet because we went so late. Everything was wonderful. Their wines are well-paired for their food and not outrageously expensive. Their onion soup is fabulous.12/8/2012 12:00:00 AMFood was exceptional. PorkFood was exceptional. Pork Belly sandwich was out of this world. Went for Chef Week, did not end up ordering off the Chef Week menu as it was lunch and was not hungry enough for 3 courses. Only downside was the atmosphere, it was absolutely dead for lunch. The food had us convinced though and we'll definitely be back for dinner.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
