The food is pretty good, though far from spectacular. It's an impressive looking restaurant especially for those of us who know it as what it used to be, a Big Boy. It's really hard to get into on the weekends -- most times you're lucky to get a reservation at all between 6 and 9 p.m. but it's not for people who like anything remotely quiet. The setup is annoying -- when you walk in there's always a ton of people waiting for tables and the bar is immediately in front of you so it can literally feel like wall-to-wall. The restaurant itself is still pretty noisy and boisterous and you may find yourself yelling to the people near or you or saying "what???" more than once. It's good but it's not for people who like it calm.

Top notch food. Fish tacos were great, nachos were huge and crunchy to the last bite - my husband loved them. Margaritas were the best I've had in this area. Didn't like the bench seats - pretty uncomfortable. Will never understand why people bring little kids to what is essentially a bar, but they do, and the restaurant seems to seat them upstairs. Next time we will ask to be seated on the main floor to avoid the Romper Room experience. Won't even comment on the charge for chips and salsa except to say that it's the best Salsa Verde I've ever eaten.

The atmosphere is wild and crazy, which is apparent when you approach the gigantic door to enter the restaurant. The food is very tasty and each day she has a little twist from a traditional Mexican entrée. The service was good and I especially like how they leave a bottle of water on your table so you can refill your glass yourself, especially since the glasses are pretty small. All in all the food is good the service is good and the restaurant is fun and exciting.

This place was very nice. The food was a more modern take on Mexican cuisine. Not a traditional Mexican restaurant with authentic art on the walls and what not, it was boat themed which gave a new twist to the Mexican experience. Food was very good and staff was friendly and polite. I would recommend to anyone looking for a nice meal. Margaritas we great too!

There are two things I can't tolerate at Mex any longer. The first one is the fact they charge you for chips and salsa. Really???? The second and bigger thing is that it is so LOUD in there that you can hardly think straight. My friends and boyfriend have complained after my last two visits there that you can't carry on a decent conversation. I think I will stay away for a while until I miss the good food. Sad. :(

Mex is a fun place for a gathering, but I find it odd that they charge for basic chips and salsa. The food does taste great and the atmosphere is wild and fun. Drinks are on the high side, so have a beer and a shot of tequila instead. Looking forward to trying new items on the menu!

It was nice being able to make reservations, even though we knew it probably wouldn't be very busy at 4pm. Because of the time, the restaurant was quiet and low key this day, but we've been once before and both times have throughly enjoyed the meal, service and the entire atmosphere. Had chips and salsa, which by the way was the best salsa I've even had; very different. Oh yeah, those Marguerita's are WONDERFUL!!! BEST EVER!!!

We had heard through friends Mex would be a fun experience with good food. It exceeded our expectations in every way. Just the décor made the trip there worthwhile, but the food was outstanding. I ordered the best fish tacos I have ever had, bar none. The service was very good: friendly, personable and efficient, and although we probably overstayed our welcome, we did not feel we were being rushed in the least. We can't wait for our family (who are foodies) to come to town for a visit because Mex will definitely be on our go-to restaurant list.

The food was good but way overpriced . . . Imperial ion Ferndale blows this place out of the water for 1/2 the price. Ordered a margarita for $12 and there was almost zero tequila in it. The margarita base was good but tasted like sugar water due to the lack of tequila. Won't make the trip from Huntington Woods out here again with better Mexican so much closer to home. The server was very nice but there were large gaps in between our first drink and waiting for the 2nd (I ordered a beer and my wife a glass of wine to be safe).

I made a reservation and when I walked in the hostess said she could only offer me a table in the front or we could sit at an actual table but we had to be out by 6:00 (it was 5:00). When I mentioned I had a reservation she looked me up and without saying anything proceeded to seat us at a high top up front. I'm not sure the point of having a reservation. The waitress was nice and helpful. Food was mildly over priced but good.

We had a good experience at MEX. We went early on a Friday for happy hour / dinner. We received prompt service, and maybe a little too prompt. Food came out very fast, and we felt pretty rushed. I wouldn't recommend this for a nice night out. The atmosphere was very casual, and even though we kept telling our server we wanted to take our time, our meal was moved along pretty quickly. Fun atmosphere and would be good for a group, but don't recommend for a special occasion.

The decor is enlivening, the food is delicious, although a bit scanty, and the service is prompt. I would like this venue a whole lot better if they didn't charge for chips and salsa. It's quite annoying to sit down at a Mexican restaurant, order a drink for $10 or $12 and find out they want you to shell out for what virtually all other Mexican eateries include. For this reason, I often nix going there.

Mex has been a hot spot for some time, so we were excited to see an available reservation on Open Table. The food was delicious and the portions were just right. My only disappointment was in the Margarita which had orange juice instead of lime. Isn't a classic Margarita supposed to be lime juice? I know it's thier twist on a classic, but it didn't work for me. We will definitely be back!

I went with a group of 5 for early dinner on a Saturday night. The decoration is a bit strange, but acceptable. The noise level was terrible. With generic dance music blaring in the background we had to shout at each other while leaning in to the center of the table to hear each other. My Carne Asada was beyond well-done with charring in some places. The service was quite good and the staff helpful and attentive. I guess I would classify this as a "hot spot'" but only for people unable to generate their own interesting conversation. We asked the restaurant to turn down the music, but they explained it was deliberately turned up for the weekend!

The price of the food was to high for the amount of food you received. The ginger ale was way to strong ( made your tongue tingle). The chips and salsa should be complimentary ( smaller version). Would not go back unless I was with a group that already was there or wanted to go. Rethink the price to the food amount.
