The food here was imaginative and tasty, but precious. Fussy Food. The wine pours were small and expensive. It was just what we call "grim gourmet". We've lived and eaten at all the best in Manhattan, and traveled the world, dining. This was just pretentious.

Metrovino used to be a hot spot. Now, nary a person was there on a Friday night. Service was horribly slow. Don't think the chef has it all together. Remember being there another night when the chef would not let any of the waiters out of the kitchen because he was so backed up he didn't want any more orders coming in!

We took out of town guests here recently and left embaressed by our poor choice of this restaurant. We are all former restaurant industry and this place was lacking in every area. Service was very slow- server seemed depressed, probably because he worked at such a lame place. Apps were tiny- entrees just okay. Overall- I regret trusting the good rating this place gets online. It was a bad choice for showing off the great food scene in Portland. I will only trust word of mouth recommodations in the future.

We hadn't been to Metrovino for some time and decided to take friends, who had never been there, to a Thursday night out. We had shockingly poor service. We waited for everything, not even bread was brought to the table and finally needed to ask the waiter could please bring our wine. We waited over an an hour for our dinner. The portions were small but the dinner was good. Our waiter never cracked a smile and seemed overwhelmed and irritated, saying they hadn't been prepared for such a large crowd that night. It didn't seem overly busy but there was only two wait staff and one bartender on duty. He did comp us two desserts. We got there at 6:30pm and left close to 9:30pm. It was a long evening. Hopefully, just an off night for Metrovino

Seeking excellent Pearl-district dining to reach on foot and to keep neighborhood streets bustling, we chose Metrovino. My husband's sharp cheddar soufle starter was resplendent and my raddichio-pancetta-crisp crouton salad delightful. His second course was the monumental burger. Excessively large, he removed one of the thick patties but exclaimed over the delicious sesame seed bun and the cooked-to-order doneness. My chickpea fritters disappointed- these are too finely ground, too large relative to the deep-fried outside (more and smaller balls would be better), and the flavorings overly mild. The white-green-edamame bean side was delicious. This is a wine-haven and we ordered cold beer on this warm evening. Next time, wine and meat.

Our experience at Metrovino was the tops. The food presentation and taste was as good as it gets. We had the brisket, the liguini the appetizer croquet, the burger and dessert. All with a bottle of Rosé. Each dish was just exceptional. While not a cheap option, it was worth the money as a dining event.

Went for the $29 June dinner special, added the wine pairings -- brilliant marketing idea! $20 per person was quite reasonable for good wine with 3 courses, but the four of us normally would not have ordered $80 worth of wine -- and we were not disappointed with either. One person disagreed with one of the wine choices, but he appreciated that the manager came to share his thoughts behind the wine pairings, and then offered an excellent alternative. Wait staff was attentive, ambience was good. We will definitely add this to our list of restaurants deserving a return visit soon.

We found this restaurant on the internet and thought the menu sounded good. So we made a reservation on Open Table and were not disappointed. The food was fantastic. The onion soup was amazing. The salad with the garlic dressing was delicious. I had the halibut and pork belly entree that was spot on. My husband has the lamb shank...the meat just fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. Will definitely recommend to our friends and we will be back!

I'm still unclear why Metrovino isn't buzzing with constant activity. Portland people: this is a fabulous restaurant, with a crazy-good wine selection and amazing food. The service can be spotty, admittedly, where is RJ? Try the foie gras or the duck confit, and Ken's artisan bread is served here too.

My wife and I were celebrating a small success with my job, and Metrovino was the right choice. Our cocktails were excellent; my wife enjoyed a Vesper and I had a Dirty Martini. Apetizers were Fois Gras Torchon and Carpiccio. Dinner was Duck Confit for my wife and I loved the Lamb Shank Confit; both were fanstatic. We enjoyed and excellent bottle of Beaux Freres Pinot Noir with dinner; outstanding. A key to the restaurant is the location and ambiance. Metrovino feels like a very contemporary restaurant in a major world city; New York, San Francisco, London or Hong Kong. There is no other restaurant in Portland that provides such an experience.

What an amazing dinner. I knew this was a place for foodies, and obviously wine geeks, and the menu did not disappoint. As a veteran of working in fine dining myself, I can attest to the quality of both the dinner menu and the extensive wine list. My date started with a fino sherry, and I had the Argyle Brut Rose. We had the asparagus appetizer, perfect combination of flavors, even though I don't eat eggs so my date had the singular pleasure of enjoying that perfectly poached ova with his share. I chose a bottle of Crozes Hermitage, knowing it would complement both our dinners, lamb shank for him and duck confit for me. Our meal was outstanding. I haven't had duck confit that well prepared since I worked at Veritable Quandary. Well done.

Metrovino has been a favorite for years as a special place for a great meal. On a whim we went Saturday night..... no problem getting a table. The drinks and wine (of course were excellent) service was very attentive (of course there were not many others to attend to) but the food was nothing to get excited about. It was good just not what I would have expected from Metro vino.

Most restaurants lack adequate facilities for storing open bottles of wine. As a result wines offered "by the glass" are typically cheap and of disappointingly low quality. Aside from its great food, the most attractive feature of Metrovino is its astonishingly large selection of wines by the "taste" or by the glass --- many of them truly exceptional! It is a pleasure to have their 5-course menu, and to be able to choose a different fine wine to accompany each course.

On the dinner front - cannot miss the charcuterie - great variety but would recommend it with a cheese plate. We followed this with a couple of nice salads. All the main courses were excellent, but my duck confit was the hit of the night as far as I was concerned. The other dishes - steelhead and the lamb shank were creative and superbly executed. The cheddar souffle was delicious. I can't remember what all it came with. The endive salad was a little to sophisticated -- or bland -- for me. The radiccio salad my wife got was to die for. I had a perfectly cooked hanger steak with mushrooms, onion rings, potatoes with pancetta. Very nice. My wife had the lamb shank, which I drooled over. We should have switched, only she doesn't like the steak as rare as I do. The owner, Todd, is often around, and likes to chat about the restaurant business, if you're interested.

Although they open at 5:30 for dinner, service at 6 was slow despite few patrons. As it filled up service improved. The wine recommendation was great - better than my choice from the "by the glass" menu. Only reservation about returning with another couple is that the menu doesn't have a lot of breadth, so if one of your party isn't into what is on offer (as one of ours wasn't), that could put a damper on things. Fortunately, the beet salad was a great starter and turned them around.
