  • "Food was average at best. Small portions and nothing special, unfortunately."

  • "We frequent Metro Montclair and always enjoy very good food and wine and enjoy bringing our friends there for a delightful dinner and conversation. They change the menu at about the right interval so new dishes are available and quite good."

  • "Metro Montclair is a gem because there are very few good restaurants around here. It is good food, and the service is very good. The problem is the price. Convenience is important, but for the less than what I paid for two small plates, a glass of wine, and tip, I could eat a full meal at Corso or even Bistrot Liasison. I know times are tough for people in business, but times are tough for customers also. I won't be going back unless there is no choice but to eat in Montclair and I am joined by friends who don't mind be overcharged."

  • "Tried this restaurant since our time for dinner was available. Very accomodating staff and friendly service. Loved the food and the "international" selection. Didn't bring children but liked the idea that it was very kid friendly, enjoyed watching the couples and their families. We are in the Montclair area frequently so glad we found this restaurant."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at Metro. It was our first time there. It is in our neighborhood so we really wanted to love the place. We left liking the place, but not loving it. The food tasted great but we found the portions small and the prices high. So if the restaurant were to increase the portion size by 20% then we'd really enjoy the place. It is not like we are big hearty eaters, but when you order a chicken dish as the main item, the dish should have more than 1/4 chicken breast. How about throwing in a thigh or a whole breast? And then to charge a full main course price seemed a bit irksome. That being said, we'll go back since the food itself was very nice."

  • "Had a lovely light supper with friends before an event. Tthe winter vegetable salad was REALLY good! The service was excellent - we told our waiter that we had a time constraint and we were out well within our time limit. The ambience very pleasant. Will definitely return."

  • "Disappointed the sweetbreads had rotated off the menu. Caesar good; frisee (Lyonnaise) almost perfect. Fried chicken good but swiss chard oddly vinegary/salty. Duck confit good but again small flaw; beans weren't cooked enough to be creamy, still a little "crunch". This time lemon tart lacked full Meyer sweetness and berries weren't macerated in bourbon; came off one-dimensional compared to last time. But flan with caramel was very good altho not much blood orange flavor. Service is extraordinary for a neighborhood bistro; they really try hard to please and timing is excellent. Note portions are small here; like Flora/Oakland but priced better. Not perfect, but we'll be back!"

  • "A nice local eatery. Bar is too large for the restaurant. It is intrusive and noisy. Not enough dining tables so patrons are squished together very close to the bar. Menu is creative but smallish. I had a simple hamburger. It was delicious but they should've called it a slider. Portions are shall we say, modest. Prices are average. Our waiter, Kenny, was very attentive and quite good. If this was my business I would try to buy out a neighboring business and knock out a wall. The restaurant needs to be twice the size. The menu needs some work also. I would still give this place a positive review however as it's one of the better spots in Montclair. 4 minutes from home!"

  • "the moose and lemon tart, both were perfect! The service was attentive without being intrusive. the lamb shank, tasty and tender, as was the fish dish. The duck dish was okay, a little chewy, but the pork dish was disappointing, very tough, and not much taste except for its chewy texture. Definitely will not order that again. We like some of the small plates, the beet salad was good, the crunchy Brussels sprout, was a little too burned, that the burn taste overwhelmed the flavor. I like Brussels sprout , so was little disappointed"

  • "We enjoyed Jaramillo's cooking at Lalime/Berkeley, and he has worked some French-style magic at siblings MMontclair & MLafayette. The sweetbreads, brined and pan-fried were FABULOUS, altho the pickled onions got picked out and discarded (please, drop the Morrone influence, OK?), with lovely Madeira cream sauce. Steak slices very tasty. Petrale sole good, not great, but the beurre blanc w/capers was lovely. Appreciated the very low salt level (there's shakers on the table for you sodium fans, don't worry)! Highlight was the Meyer lemon tart with bourbon berries - beautiful combo, pure Meyer creamy filling topped with berries in good bourbon, not a speck of sugar added or needed in the topping. Not Lalime level yet but getting close!"

  • "Metro is a restaurant that is easy to underestimate. Its modest appearance does not match the diverse and eclectic menu. The food is innovative yet warm with a familiar touch - "comfort food" with a twist. This is a true "gem""

  • "Love, Love, Love Metro Montclair! Eat here at least once a month. All the food is wonderful and they have delicious inventive seasonal dishes as well. All the dishes are thoughtfully prepared. Indulge in the caramel pot de creme-- it is wonderful. Friendly atmosphere and attentive staff. Good wine list and de-luscious cocktails. Great for group dining, or 2 and 4 people as well."

  • "Management needs to train the staff better. Poor service...and the server was rather rude... Why? Is it because I bruised his ego on the wine-knowledge??? Need to learn to give better details and explanation of the wine description...this is the immediate Bay Area after all. We ain't in Kansas City anymore! LOL..."

  • "We love having dinner at Metro on Stroll Night. It is fun to watch the activities from inside this cozy restaurant. The food is so delicious and seems freshly made to our order. We shared several dishes from mussels and scallops to chicken and steak. The wine was less satisfactory but maybe we just did not know what to order."

  • "All the foods were delicious but I particularly recommend the Crispy Brussel Sprouts for an appetizer. We ordered 2, liked them so much that we ordered a third one. The noise level is moderate, so you can have a conversation with your friends without straining and stressing to hear."

  • "For a casual lunch, Metro Montclair is fine. They have one respectable wine on the menu, at least one that is recognizable as respectable--but sadly it's a gerwurtztraminer. While I love Navarro's gewurtz, I like their pinot even better and I always prefer red wine when it's chilly outside. The food is passable, nothing special. The service is pleasant and the ambience is fine. But they will have to do a more impressive job in the kitchen before Metro earns more than two stars from me."

  • "Attractive restaurant in Montclair. Host remembered my special request and fulfilled it. Enjoyed a lovely dinner with friends where the service was prompt and courteous without being hovering; the food was quite interesting and well executed in the small open kitchen. Salads were crisp and fresh while the roasted beet timbale was deliciously over the top. Wine list is broad but a bottle of something good can be had for around $30. Ditto the Prosecco. Loved the wild fish tacos with avocado and mango. Dinged one star because our chairs had no backs--no place for purse, jacket, etc and no support for the back during a 2 hour meal. Still, a return visit is in our future."

  • "I like being able to meet friends and eat right in my own 'hood. Metro has a good choice of wines, consistent food -- though the menu is quite limited and gets a bit stale. I really like the staff there who always treat me well and remember me. I DO miss that they are no longer open for lunch. It was a wonderful thing to be able to have a more upscale lunch experience in Montclair. It seems always quite busy during the actual lunch "hour". So, I'm not sure why it has been discontinued. MISS IT!"

  • "Four of us ate at Metro Montclair on a Wednesday night. Parking was easy, the service was very, very good, the small plates were perfect for 4 of us, the maitre d/waiter was engaging and friendly and all of us enjoyed this restaurant very much. Two us us had eaten at the Lafayette sister restaurant and this one is equally as good. We plan to make this our go-to restaurant in Montclair."
