The best items here are soups and desserts. For my entree, I had the mussels and they were boring. A bland tomato sauce with delicious mussels but 3 were not opened. This could be so much better with some wine and garlic and herbs flavoring the sauce. Love the Educated Guess cabernet. The kabocha squash soup was amazing!

My dining companions both enjoyed their meals. I had a bite of my husband's cod and it was delicious. However, the items I ordered - a burger and bread pudding - tasted pretty bland. I wasn't asked how I wanted the burger cooked ... it was dry and over cooked. Our waiter was super friendly.

The food and service were excellent. We dine at Metro a few times a year and it's consistently good. This time we sat indoors near the fireplace - the table for 2 was a bit romantic and allowed us to relax and enjoy the evening.

My husband and I decided to dine at Metro Saturday night. We made reservations, were seated promptly, and orders were taken quickly. A manager (my guess) even apologized for things taking so long- we didn't notice a delay at all. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, fettuccine bolognese, and wild salmon. The Brussels sprouts were wonderful, but the other two dishes were just okay. I had the salmon and although the fish was cooked perfectly, the dish was lacking flavor. I also think creamed kale was not the best pairing.a lighter kale dish with more of the baby tomato garnish would have improved the bland flavor. My husband said the same thing about his Bolognese. We both tried adding salt and pepper, but that didn't seem to do the trick.

The service was fine . . . not overly helpful or friendly and the atmosphere was lovely though a bit crowded inside. They are famous for their beautiful patio but we were there at night and it was a bit cold so we sat inside. The quality of the food was mixed. Several dishes were good, some were mediocre but overall they weren't that special. The price however was memorable and not in a good way.

Ambiance in dining room was not romantic---very bright overhead lighting as in a Dennys. Not quite that bad but close. Very few restaurants East Bay get the light right. The need to visit San Francisco restaurants and check out their lighting. Also acoustics create a loud atmosphere if the restaurant is full or if there is a large table of loud talkers, as was the case with the night I visited. The crab cakes were below average and I didn't like the rather sweet sauce at all. However the crispy brussels sprouts were absolutely fantastic. Wait staff was very nice and friendly. Walking out through the bar I noticed that the lighting was also too bright there.

A warmer than usual night in Lafayette prompted us to sit outside on Metro's spacious patio. We were rewarded with great ambiance and quiet (indoors dining can be noisy). The food and wine was excellent and reasonably priced. The wait staff was at our table frequently but not intrusively. One of the best dining experiences we have had in Lafayette in years.

First visit at this restaurant at the recommendation/suggestion of a friend. The inside of the restaurant is quite chic. We dined outside as it was a hot afternoon. A nice selection of outdoor dining tables -- with lots of umbrellas, so you get the "sun" but not directly! Our server was most polite. I ordered off of their brunch menu -- the portion was small, but the price reflected that! It was enough for a small appetite, but probably wouldn't be enough for a man -- not your typical "brunch" portion. All in all, a very enjoyable dining experience. Would recommend to others and revisit!

Metro has always been a favorite. The menu is always interesting and creative, the execution excellent; my standard for crab cakes. They weren't on the menu for our brunch, but when we asked about them they prepared it for us. We also were unexpectedly served complimentary desserts with birthday candles. Service excellent. Lovely garden patio. Since Montclair closed for lunch and brunch I go much less frequently because I don't want to drive from Oakland except for special occasions.

I have eaten at Metro many times--enjoy the food and delightful outdoor area, but couldn't give them 5 stars. Our lunch took over an hour to arrive--the Thai salad, the Cobb salad, fish tacos and a hamburger, all pretty quick to prepare. The restaurant was not crowded. It's possible that the server forgot to give the order to the kitchen. We complained that we were seated at 12:30 and lunch showed up at 1:45. Our server blamed the kitchen, but the chefs seemed to be standing around and not at all busy. There was no compensation offered. By 1:45 we had eaten 2 baskets of bread and had 2-3 drinks per person. The manager apologized as we left and said he had discussed the matter with the server. I will probably go back, but not soon!

Although we've eaten at Metro many times, this time we wanted a later, light supper on a warm summer night. So we ordered small plates rather than main entrees and ate on their pretty patio. The heirloom tomato salad with fresh burrata was perfect - burrata was creamy and light; tomatoes were very flavorful. For the small plates, seared scallops on pasta were really good, as was the peach bruschetta with caramelized onions and goat cheese. My husband enjoyed crab cakes and fresh tomato-cream bisque (excellent). Loved their Albarino white wine. Such a relaxing, wonderful dinner. (In case you're not from Lafayette, bring a sweater for the patio. We're not San Francisco, but evenings on even hot days are cool - cooler than Walnut Creek).

Eating inside is practically unbearable because of the high decibel level, but the outdoor patio is perfect. We indulged in burgers (fish and beef) and the servings were very generous. The fries were thin and crispy. We've had the salads in the past, and they have always been good. Service was spotty. We waited a long time for someone to bring menus and check back with us for orders, but the water server came around exactly as we needed refills.

My friend and I went there for lunch. It was our first time. Parking was good as it backs up to the Safeway/Whole Foods "Mall" shopping area. Since the weather was good we ate outside. The service was excellent. I had a vegetable salad which consisted of a number of vegetables cut up very finely and mixed with greens and then with a very tasty salad dressing. We were very pleased and hope to go back in the future.

My guest and I were seated in the inside patio as it was too warm to sit outside. Our server was prompt with water, bread and drink orders. The Chalone Chardonnay was delicious I ordered the Poke which was served with baked Won Ton chips as was very tasty. Even though the Poke was presented as an appetizer it was very filling and made a lovely meal. My guest had the fish tacos that were made with Ono. The serving of two was very good and contained the right amount of seasoning and sauces to make them delicious. We were having a late 2PM lunch the restaurnat had their afternoon rush over and the atomosphere was quiet and soothing. I would definitely dine there again.

Saw it on "Check Please!" and it didn't disappoint. The patio is spacious, vibrant, and totally lovely for outdoor dining. Fun cocktails and solid wine list (including well-priced by-the-glass options that are actually good). Lots of variety among apps, small plates, and entrees - loved the padron peppers, watermelon/feta salad, mac n cheese. Very friendly and attentive service. Went back the very next week.

Celebrate anniversary with family (5 of us) on a Saturday evening. Lovely weather. Dined outside. Food was excellent. Tried small plates and entrees. Pork chop tasty. Small plate fruit/cheese very nice. Seated next to a large party of 24+. Outside dining full to capacity @ 8.30pm. Service a little slow after ordering, but remained reasonable. One glitch- busboy cleared wine glass that had a bit of wine! Noticed it too late. Mentioned to waitress. Never had that happen before at any restaurant!

I brought my friend there for a birthday lunch. When Donna came to take our drink order, my friend requested a very smooth red. Donna took this request very seriously and worked with the bar tender to find the perfect one. We split two salads.... the Crab Salad and the Tuna Confit Nicoise. When they arrive they were plated separately and looked, not really like one salad split but a more generous portion of each. Both were delicious. When we decided not to order dessert because we were too full, Donna still brought us a lovely birthday candled ice cream filled profiterole to share. All in all, it was a totally delightful meal on the lovely patio with superb service!

We sat outside, which was lovely and quiet. Inside it was very noisy, however. The food was very fresh and tasty, but too heavy for me. Each small dish had enough oil for a whole meal. The menu description didn't suggest this, so we were fooled. I'll try the salads next time, light on the dressing.

We 'be been going here occasionally since they opened and the food is still great. Small plate of lobster spaghetti was rich and creamy with lobster you could taste. Salads always good but heirloom tomato and burrata was outstanding. Husband's sea bass also great. Nice variety on wine list. Albariño refreshing. Try the rose; not sweet and nice for summer meal. We dined at Metro at the recommendation of old friends. After being seated we waited 10 minutes w/o seeing a waitperson; one came only at my request. Throughout the meal, inordinate amounts of time elapsed between waitperson visits - perhaps understaffed on a Friday night? As for the food, nothing raised above mediocrity...and at above-mediocrity prices. The most disturbing dish was a butterscotch pot du creme. Where the apparent intent was to enhance the butterscotch with salted caramel, the resulting dish was barely edible and probably elevated our blood pressure levels dangerously high due to the salt crust hiding under the whipped cream Return? NOT ON OUR LIVES!
