Diner Reviews
  • "We had a really nice, early dinner. We arrived a few minutes earlier than our reservation and were seated immediately. Food was very good, and quick. The waiter brought extra chips for our guacamole without us asking. We were thanked by everyone on the way out. The only downside was a ridiculously loud table next to us, but not sure what the restaurant could have done without possibly making it worse. They knew there were irritating but didn't seem to care."

  • "I came for dinner and ordered the the back bay chopped salad, which was described as "almost everything, plus bacon, avocado, and cheese" minimally expecting the bacon, avocado, and cheese. The salad came and there was no avocado. I asked them to bring me some on the side, and they said they did not have any avocado. However, my boyfriend sitting across from me was eating a turkey burger with avocado on it, which we found very strange. The server failed to tell me they were out of avocado when I placed my order or when she brought the food out, which would have been nice. She did not take anything off the bill, and was unapologetic about the experience. "

  • "Enjoyed the experience with a "mixed age" group, although the Met Club was basically full of vibrant young folks."

  • "I dined at MET Back Bay with a group of friends on April 11, 2014. We had a reservation and were promptly seated. Our server Kristin immediately greeted us and provided outstanding and personable service throughout dinner. Three of us had the salmon and were extremely pleased with the preparation and accoutrements. Two members of the group had the chopped salad with "almost everything" and were very complimentary of the flavorful blend of ingredients. Overall, a very pleasurable dining experience."

  • "We had a pleasant lunch at Met but the server was very rushed and appeared poorly trained."

  • "The title really says it all. The Met Back Bay has a trendy yet intimate atmosphere, but the quality of the food does not justify the high prices. Two decent salads with nothing other than tap water cost $34."

  • "no subtlety to the food- to spicy too blah- not an interesting menu"

  • "Cheery, elegant ambiance and menu with tasty offerings. Had the delicious eggplant caprese sandwich and sweet potato fries. Food was beautifully presented with nice balance of crispy, tender and full flavors. Perfect place for my business lunch."

  • "Fabulous pancakes and french toast. The service was a bit spotty and forgetful."

  • "This place is in a great location but it's not that great. The food was average but pricey. They didn't have enough people working the hostess area, the waitress kept bumping my broken leg. Every time we asked for something she was flustered. We were put in the library with a large group wiht a screaming child, so much for a lady's brunch on newbury street, instead i could have gone to the local diner for the same atmosphere."

  • "I went with a friend for restaurant week. A little fancy but very comfortable especially for a great night out to catch up with a friend. Food was pretty good especially the biscuits with maple butter and tres leches cake. Service was great too."

  • "We were here with a party of 5 for Sunday Brunch. Overall the service was poor and the food was as expected. The biggest thing was our waiter gave us a hard time about adding blueberries to pancakes. He told us the kitchen would not do this. He later came back and told us there was a visiting chef from Chestnut Hill and "apparently they do that out there occasionally" so they were able to add blueberries to our pancakes afterall. It's a shame that they got so hung up on a minor request, my 2-year old can add blueberries to pancakes. I believe there were a few other issues but I'm forgetting now."

  • "Been here before and always ate at the downstairs bar-I'd stick with that for my next visit. We had steak tips and the skirt steak, with sweet potato fries and truffle fries, calamari to start. I'd say the calamari was the winner-it was great, crisp and light, not at all oily - really delicious. Steak tips were fine-I like the presentation with the salad on top, but the fries were sub-par (sweet potato fries were better, but still not great). Skirt steak got a so-so review from the diner who ate that. I'd say stick w/ the appetizers and sandwiches-the more expensive entrees are not going to be worth what you could get elsewhere for similar cost."

  • "We chose this restaurant because of its proximity to an event we were attending later in the evening. We were pleased by our welcome, our seating (had read about worn leather banquette seats but everything had been reupholstered and was fresh and comfortable), the menu choices and the service. Our waitress was warm, knowledgeable, had an incredible sense of humor, and was very attentive. She was able to explain menu choices readily and seemed to anticipate our needs. Everything we ordered was delicious. We had a wonderful meal and would definitely return!"

  • "My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Saturday brunch at the Met Bar. I had the most exquisite chicken salad sandwich on a croissant -- heavenly. Although we did not partake of the famous Bloody Mary's, we enjoyed watching our neighbors at the next table get theirs, heaped with vegetables and every other goodie that could fit in the glasses. The place was definitely loud but the service was terrific, the food delicious, and the atmosphere the best of Boston (sophisticated and a beautifully appointed brownstone mansion)."

  • "Don't waste your time on this pretentious restaurant with no reason to be. We went for brunch on a Saturday morning. The eggs were given to us cold (it was not busy) and the ramekin of ketchup that came with it looked like it had been poured into it the day before and sat in the fridge uncovered as it had a thick layer of skin on top of it. Additionally I was over charged for my meal. Not only had I addressed this issue when I was ordering as I was making a even substitution but again when the item I was substituting was also brought out. I had to explain it a third time to the waiter when the bill came and then to the RUDEST manager ever. They argued with me over $5 for something I didn't order or eat. POOR FOOD WORSE SERVICE."

  • "My husband , daughter (20) and I had brunch on the Saturday after Valentines day, This was our second time. It has a very good vibe! The service was excellent! Our waiter was engaging and appropriately attentive. My husband and I had the Eggs Benedict and Biscuits. The poached eggs were on a bed of spinach with hollandaise atop a light airy oven baked biscuit "home fries"/potatoes- as a side. The food was excellent and the portions were more than adequate. My daughter had a very interesting egg dish ; stuffed with pulled pork...I didn't taste it but it looked enticing. They have fabulous bloody mary's- with a nice rimmed glass. They also have burgers and some luncheon items on the menu. I would definitely go back for brunch or lunch."

  • "We have been to the Met before and it was excellent. We had a wonderful waiter and ate delicious food. This time we were sat at a table in the middle of a room where people were constantly walking past us. I asked for brussle sprouts with my brown sugar salmon and they were undercooked on the inside yet burnt on the edges. It also lacked the brown sugar flavor I was excited about. Wine was great. Service was good."

  • "Given the price range, I was expecting an upscale dining experience, but this is not we what we experienced. The booth was some type of faux leather that had been worn through and the the finish on the table was also peeling. We both ordered apps ad drinks and they were fine but getting a second drink took too long given that the dining room was not even full. We both ordered a steak that was unseasoned as were the mashed potatoes and the creamed spinach was a watery mess. We were brought 1 steak knife about half way through our steak. Dessert was ok but we had the wait for utensils, we also had espresso which was very bitter and we had to ask for cream and sugar. For $185 dinner for two I would expect a lot more."

  • "The food was excellent and the service great but the cusions on the furniture look disgusting. For a place that looks like it's trying to be fancy they should have invested in better material. Tables also peeling away. The dining room needs some TLC. Will be back for brunch again though."

  • "For an upscale neighborhood restaurant, I was expecting more variety on their menu. The wine list was extensive but food was sub par in choice. I ordered the brick chicken and would surely order that again. Sweet potato fries and truffle fries were soggy. Drinks were strong but flavorfully balanced. I like this restaurant but if the food menu made improvements, I'd be a frequent diner."

  • "the ambiance in the bar upstairs is much better than the rest of the restaurant. The restrooms are all the way downstairs and on a cold day with all that tile - are VERY COLD. Food was fine, but the salads are very large. We (ladies lunch) were looking for a smaller salad. Someone ordered the cauliflower salad - turns out all it contained was a bowl of cauliflower. Disappointed that is considered a salad?? It's a good neighborhood place, and if I lived in Back Bay, I'm sure I would spend more time there. Thanks."

  • "We chose MET for lunch because it was so convenient to public transportation. The service was great, food yummy and helpings rewarding. This would be a great place for business lunches -- we could not hear the conversations at tables near us."

  • "I went to Met Back Bay for Sunday brunch and had a wonderful meal from the Bellini to the carbonara pasta with poached egg to the Nutella filled French toast (it tasted more like a beignet than any type of bread)!"

  • "We enjoyed a nice meal Christmas Eve, before proceeding with our plans. Service was warm & friendly, yet efficient enough to get us on our way. Each one of us enjoyed our meals, which were slanted towards starters and a nice glass of wine. Atmosphere was convivial. In warmer weather, outdoor seating on Newbury Street makes for a most pleasant time."

  • "Food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. I liked it so much better than the Met Bar in Chestnut Hill as far as the vibe/feel! Went for lunch but will definitely have to go back for dinner!"

  • "I tried roasted duck and mushroon & chestnut rissoto from their Christmas special menu. They were very tasty. Duck was for minimum of 2 people and I though it could easily feed 4 people. I loved the texture of chestnut in their rissoto. I usually just have foods at their bar, but this time we did a sit down dinner and though dining room was nice. I loved it that we could over look the Newbury Street from our table."

  • "The MET Back Bay has an appealing menu and congenial service. The ample Back Bay Burger had an oddly dry brioche bun; I ended up ditching the bun when everything kept falling out. The tasty eggplant sandwich was built better; salads were satisfying. The sticky toffee pudding was a small rendering of that classic dessert; we'd vote for more spices in the cake! The convenient venue - formerly American Joe's - needs updating; dim lighting, meh furniture, and no artwork do nothing to take advantage of this charming townhouse. We ate in a dining room with well-spaced tables, banquettes, and lots of large windows. There's also an upstairs lounge, downstairs bar and patio. We didn't try the "flight of hot chocolates" but liked the concept!"

  • "We had a delicious brunch before shopping for Christmas. The menu was interesting and they were very accommodating to special requests. The sausage hashbrown was a table favorite. The Bloody Mary menu was a nice touch even if a bit expensive. The service for the initial drinks was slow but the food was pretty quick. The servers were fine."

  • "This was a huge hit! We stopped in after a theater showing. Actually had reservations for 9:45pm. We were seated right away. Service was very fast. We were famished and the food did not disappoint. 3 of us had the grilled ham egg and cheese sandwich. (And this was not your run of the mill ham and egger!) Tastefully prepared and served. Yummy side of french fries and onion rings to top each of our dishes off! Our 4th dinner guest had a ridiculously over-sized hot dog. It was supposed to be an Asian dog complete with spices and such. She had it plain and loved every bite of it. Our experience was awesome. If there had to be a negative it would have been the noisy 20 something yr old girls at the next table. Otherwise everything was perfect."

  • "Brunch tables fill up quickly in Back Bay. With guests we wanted to visit with, the goal was relatively quiet environment, good food and a free table. Although omelets and pancakes were offered, there were a number of surprise offerings. The hash with pulled pork, fried egg and spinach was hearty and AMAZINGLY delicious - good enough to bring half home for a later snack. I'd highly recommend MET for weekend brunch and will also consider it for the early morning breakfast it offers during the week. Breakfast here is clearly not just an restaurant afterthought!"

  • "When I went to MET Back Bay with my wife for brunch we disappointed, to say the least. The table we were seated at felt like a table that was squeezed in the corner in order to fit more people, rather than create the best dining experience (this was bad as my wife and I are tall). Our waiter came a few minutes after we were seated and asked for our drink orders, to which my wife responded she needed a minute. Our waiter didn't return for 15 minutes(!!) so we placed our entire order at once. The veggie omelette was dry and didn't taste fresh. The ham and cheese omelette wasn't much better. We will not be returning, as our brunch approached $40 including a couple drinks. In a city that has so many great brunch options, MET is underwhelming."

  • "met bar is our go to. we visit the natick one frequently and the boston one as well. the burgers and salads are outstanding as are the drinks. i consistently order the arugula salad, but this last time, the cheese was so salty, it was practically inedible. might be this particular batch, but it seemed the shavings were heavier and saltier. we both had leftovers, but did not eat them. still we'll keep coming back- it's a keeper."
