MestizoExcellent in Every RespectThere's one thing to be said about good food at a restaurant owned by a celebrity chef (Aaron Sanchez), but the service here is absolutely on par with that food. It must be a fun place to work (where the employees are appreciated) because they all seem so happy to be there and to make their customers' experience special. We were dining with a bartender family member who was impressed with the margarita which was made correctly and tasted perfect., The grilled ricado chicken was very flavorful and tender. The mahi-mahi tacos were delicious. The drinks were a little slow coming, but the staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a very attractive decor. Our waitress was amazing. I wish I could remember her name. The place was very busy and we did have to wait a while for some items to come to the table but we had our drinks and we had our friends, the weather was terrific and we were not in a hurry. The food was terrific. We did not feel rushed. The chilaquiles and pork belly tacos were outstanding! And the service was great, as we've come to expect. However, our server was TOO efficient this time. She promptly refilled our drinks (water, tea, lemonade), was friendly without being smothering, and quickly corrected a small error in our order. But she also collected our plates too quickly--and (at least twice) without asking. Fortunately, no one at our table had their heart set on taking home the remnants of the chilaquiles that disappeared while my wife was in the ladies' room and I was distracted with the kids. We were not disappointed. We ordered the guacamole as an appetizer, I had the skirt steak tacos and my wife had the pork belly tacos. The guacamole was very good although a little steep for the price. The tacos on the other hand, were amazingly delicious. I inhaled mine very quickly, and my wife soon followed suit. We had a few drinks, and if it had not been happy hour where the specialty drinks were half price, we probably would not have. I had the sangria, my wife had a mojito, and a margarita. Our waitress was very friendly & able to answer our questions about the menu. Service was prompt. The food & margaritas were delicious. Our server (Bailey) was very knowledgeable and had some great recommendations and she always had a smile on her face. Something you don't see often times at a restaurant. The food arrived quite fast. The quality, appearance, taste, temperature and portion sizes were excellent. The drinks we had were very good. To top it off the dessert was great! And the highlight of the evening for my wife was seeing Aaron' and getting her picture taken with him. It was nice to see the man himself making the rounds and talking with the diners. The third should be described as "fire in a bowl". The first bowl of chips was a bit greasy, the second was better. We then tried the cucumber, jicama and mango appetizer. Served sliced into sticks then tossed with lime juice and sprinkled with a chili powder, the dish is extremely light and refreshing. We would have enjoyed it after having our entrees in lieu of a standard dessert item. We then had the chile rellenos and the seafood paella fritters. Both were excellent. We had Kelly as our server and she was excellent. I recommend asking for her. They have different happy hours every day which run from around 5-7 and then again after 9 or 10. They also have a "skinny" (not skinny girl) margarita which is supposedly under 100 calories (hard to believe). I started out with the Lobster Ceviche which had many large chunks of tail meat lobster with just the right amount of cilantro, onions and bathed in a passion fruit sauce. The chips and salsa are homemade and quite different. My main course was the fresh fish which was Barramundi. At a price of $16, couldn't be beaten for the quality of this meal.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
