A word from Messina's
The Messina name was first introduced to the food service industry in June of 1961, when Andy Messina fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning a restaurant with his father. Andy Messina’s Restaurant and Catering Company, located in Kenner, Louisiana, was only the beginning for the Messina family. Andy, and his wife, Isabelle, operated the restaurant, which became famous for its Italian family recipes and classic New Orleans seafood dishes, for over 40 years.
The menu selection at Messina’s will feature a blend of South Louisiana style Creole cooking, Italian inspired dishes and Florida’s finest seafood. Some old Messina’s favorites like baby veal spedindi will be featured, as well as new creations such as penne pasta jambalaya and Five Star offerings like blue cheese filet"s, surf and turf, pan seared redfish over Gouda grit cake topped with Oysters Rockefeller.
Family friendly, casual dining with a Five Star Flair will set Messina’s apart from any restaurant on 30-A.

  • "I found Messina's on OpenTable and made a brunch reservation at the last minute. It took a while for our server to acknowledge us, and for our drinks to arrive. The food was great! We ordered the Veggie Benedict which was fresh and summery. We loved the sweet creamy corn sauce. We also had the Italian Benedict. Nice house made sausage and tomato hollandaise. The Bloody Mary bar left a little to be desired. It was very messy; only one kind of mix offered; and hot sauce, Worcestershire, and horseradish were in kitchen squeeze bottles labeled with masking tape! Ew. Live music with a wandering sax player was nice."

  • "I am from NOLA. And I am so sorry to say what an absolute disappointment Messina's was. My rule has always been not to eat NOLA food outside of NOLA. Needless to say will return to that rule. I had the veal. It was cold on the inside and the pasta was gummy. No one in my party ate much of their entree. The bread was sourdough. It was a horrible experience."

  • "We had a great meal at Fire. While we dined there on a "off night" (Tuesday) the food and service were great. I particularly enjoyed my fish entree (amberjack), the special for the day. The salads are fresh and inventive, too. I hope we can dine there again the next time we are in the 30A area."

  • "So, this was our 1st visit to the Santa Rosa Beach area, and I booked Sunday Brunch at Fire @ Gulf Place. We had very far to travel (just across the parking lot). We had the pancake special "peaches/blueberries" as suggested by the waiter as the "appetizer", which was an excellent suggestion. I had the salmon frittata, and he had the chorizo omelet. I love any restaurant that offers "FREE" flowing champagne as part of their brunch. All-in-all we enjoyed our meal."

  • "A friend recommended that we try brunch at Fire while we were on vacation. We had the grits & grillades which were phenomenal and also the strawberry, banana and white chocolate pancakes which were also delicious. Champagne was complimentary so I enjoyed a couple of mimosas. The only thing we were not happy with was the bloody mary that my husband ordered. It tasted like cocktail sauce so I think it may have had horseradish in it. Some people may like that but it wasn't for us. We will definitely go back next time we visit the 30a area."

  • "This was our first time at Fire at Gulf Place. I had read some reviews and decided to give it a shot and we were happy we did. The restaurant is contemporary with great art on the walls. The menu is a little more limited than some other Destin restaurants but that just means they execute what they offer better. We shared the tomatoes 3 ways and the beet salad. Both were beautifully presented and tasted great. The beet salad was huge, with 3 of each of 3 different types of beets. Three of us had the red snapper for dinner. Interesting preparation with the sunflower seed crust, and it works! The fourth person ordered a sea bass special and loved it. Nice wine list at reasonable prices. We'll definitely go back next year when we are in Destin!"

  • "Horrific service for the price. We could not even get our waters refilled. Empty plates sat on our table until we left. Appetizers were brought out with no plates and we had to ask for them which took another 10 minutes. Half of the adults in our party of 12 did not like their food and ate less than 1/3. No one checked on us after the entrees were put down until it was time for the check. Needless to say we passed on dessert! Check this place off your list! Waste of our money and time!"

  • "Seems to me that Fire has become a little pretentious , forgetting that after summer is over the least thing they could do is taking care of your local costumers, my friends and I used to have a good time in Fire and I would usually recommend it to everybody I know , sadly last Sunday brunch my friends and I were treated poorly starting with the hostess and the server who rushed us in to leaving , I won't be coming back ."

  • "We are from Louisiana and the blackened grouper was a disappointment. There wasn't a kids menu and we paid around $28 for 5 shrimp and then had to buy pizza for him after we left. There are upscale restaurants in the area that offer kids menu. Our son is nine and well behaved. I don't want to dine in a romper room and maybe this is discourage you from bringing children. When our son was younger, we always brought a babysitter. Point being it would not be diificult to offer a children's menu. The hostess was rude on the phone and in person. The waitress we had was great and very personable. Not a very pleasurable experience overall."

  • "Our group of 15 enjoyed our meals from Fire. We also liked the fact that we could walk to Fire from our beach house, and not worry about fighting crowds at other places. The main fault we found was that the food service was slow, much slower than it should have been for the number of diners there. This was perhaps the kitchen's fault and not the waiter's? Also, we were very hungry waiting for our food, and then we realized that the waiter hadn't remembered to bring any bread to the table. After reminding him, he cheerfully brought it when we were almost finished with our entrees. Otherwise, the waiter did attend to our needs nicely."

  • "We had reservations for Friday night, but there was a huge wedding party in the main dining room, so we were seated in the open bar area, but it was still noisy. We do not fault the restaurant for hosting such an event; the problems arose from inadequately anticipating the increased staffing necessary to provide the quality of food and service reasonably expected at these prices. The kitchen was clearly overwhelmed. Ceviche was limp fish in soggy wonton shells. Duck tamales had way too much cornmeal and very little duck; sauce tasted like jarred hoisin. Ceasar salad was presented as composed salad, tasty but unusually small. Gumbo was ok but thin. High point was freshly made cornbread. Perhaps just a bad night."

Outstanding service -- our waiter was friendly and attentive, but not obtrusive. The snapper was great -- really fresh and served with a light but delicious relish. Everything was delicious. Excellent wine list for the Panhandle and an especially good selection of wines by the glass. Good location with plenty of parking -- surprised it was not busier on a Saturday night."

  • "Fire was very good! We returned after two years and the food is still quite good. We always like the dip trio and enjoyed it this time as well. Both fish dishes were very good. Our son enjoyed the burger but it was priced a little higher than warranted. Overall, Fire is a bit on the pricy side, but not much more than many of the best 30A spots. Our waiter was efficient and we had a nice dining experience. We will be back!"

  • "This was our second visit, and the restaurant lived up to the high bar set the first time. 30A restaurants can be really hit or miss, and during Spring Break we had a LOT of misses. Fire was solid. I recommend starting with the dip trio for the table, which is good with wine. The sunflower-encrusted snapper is unique. We've never had a bad experience with the menu, though. If it sounds good to you, it probably will be."

  • "We sat at a table in the bar area - big screen tv's - not too loud with bar - the food was DELICIOUS - service was a little slow and a mistaken which was quickly corrected - however we learned a server was a no show and our guy was called in with about 20 minutes notice so he did the best he could - did not disrupt our evening - I recommended to friends - they liked it too!"

  • "We had a good meal at Fire. The food was very good, the wine prices seemed reasonable so a good overall experience. The menu has a lot of small batch liquors and unique wines but the vodka we chose and the first wine selection was out of stock, but the next wine selection was quite good. It was a quiet night and not very crowded so hard to judge how the service and food will be in the busy summer but we'll be back to check it out. The quail appetizer was excellent and we also had two awesome salads before our red snapper and crawfish, crab and artichoke pasta dishes. We enjoyed it!!"

  • "Great locally grown food! I had the Grouper and had the chef switch up the sides and it was awesome! I love the atmosphere, more of an adult spot although there was a family with kids there when we were dining. You have to try the Sticky Toffee Cake and ask for a scoop of ice cream with it! Always eat at Fire when I'm in town."

I was stuck between a lunch-like brunch item, duck confit hash or a lighter Creole style omelet with shrimp and blue crab. My husband knew he was ordering the buffalo burger. Upon ordering, the champagne pour began (and continued throughout our meal). Our wait was brief, allowing for conversation and anticipation.
