MessHall- LA’s newest eatery located in the heart of Los Feliz. A re-interpretation of a classic American tavern, featuring a raw bar and a relaxed atmosphere of social/communal dining. Open spaces with a neo-industrial feel incorporating elements of the location’s history including its past as Cecil B. De Mille’s Willard’s Chicken Inn and The Brown Derby. MessHall will feature American Classics re-conceptualized by our chefs using local, sustainable, organic and seasonal ingredients. Featuring a bar program by Ben Scott and his team of barsmith’s, with a heavy emphasis on classics, small batch new American spirits and craft beers.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Overall enjoyed but our food was a bit cold. They brought my friend a new order of her benedict but the sauce was still luke warm. They offered to bring us dessert but at that point we didn't want to continue making a fuss. I will definitely go back but would be hesitant to order the same dishes. I've heard great things about their oyster bar so I would definitely try that."

  • "This was a business lunch and the first time I have been to this restaurant. They have an eclectic menu; everything from vegan to steak to raw oysters. My Cuban sandwich was good, but the fries were over salted, and they are $5 for a small bowl. My guest had the Kale Caesar, which didn't look very tasty, and she about half of it. The service will put the mess hall out of business if they don't hire more help or improve training. When you have to get up and walk to the bar to request your check, something is seriously wrong."

  • "What a great deal on $1 Oyster night. The service was really wonderful and the drinks were amazing! The atmosphere was relaxing and fun. Definitely coming back here."

  • "MessHall is a great chill casual dinner spot! Fit for foodies including and oyster bar and a decent size wine list fit for winos! Have the friend chicken & corn fritters! You won't be disappointed. Went here with a friend of mine & we just ordered and shared everything so we could try more. Score!"

  • "Got a recommendation from a co-worker. This used to be a different, favorite years ago. It's trendy, cool, interesting. Great bar and bartenders. But the best was the food and the AWESOME server."

  • "Had a business lunch here. Oysters were great. The space is probably too big for the amount of lunch guests that day - resulting in a mellow energy. Service was OK,"

  • "We brought out of town guests who loved it. We had dinner on a Tuesday and so the drink prices were perfect as was the price and quality for oysters. Dinner was very good with orders for roasted veggies, salads and other food to share. Our server was attentive, personable and efficient. It was a beautiful night and we were able to sit outside! Valet parking was a perk. This restaurant is in our neighborhood and we highly recommend."

  • "I went in with low expectations because my friends all say the food is pricey but tastes very average. I didn't think the price was too bad considering the neighborhood. If you have KCRW they take 15% off your tab. I thought the food was fine, nothing too special but the coffee and the service was phenomenal. I will definitely be back."

  • "We would have sat outside but a skunk had recently sprayed and the smell was still thick in the air. Our server was really good with a great sense of humor as they had changed the menu and taken off "Grits" and so we kept asking for our "Grits". The waiter took it all in stride as we were very unhappy about the menu changes especially the "grits" being taken off. That was a main stay with my dinner guest and I that we have gotten every time we have been there. Was difficult to decide what we wanted after that and nothing was impressive so got a hamburger that was not impressive. Thought the Mac and cheese was good, the smoked corn fritters were burnt. It is doubtful we will return any time soon now."

  • "This is a very casual pleasant place. If you are in the neighborhood, drop in. But this is not a destination restaurant. Cool place, very good burgers, good service."

  • "Nice day at a really cute, easy-going spot. We ate in the outdoor patio next to the fire pit. The drinks were good. The food was as well. And the wait staff was pleasant and personable. We will come again."

  • "Really love this place! It's a little noisy on a Saturday night, but food and service are excellent."

  • "Great oyster bar. Varied and inspired menu of American cuisine with Southern influences. Great service as well. Our server was Mason and he was outstanding!"

  • "Great food and lots of it! Been here a few times for lunch, always with a large group and we always walk away with a positive experience. Food is presented well and delivered fast and with a great attitude and smile"

  • "We requested and got a nice half-booth. I rolled the dice thrice on their cocktail menu's "Roll The Dice" option, and each surprise cocktail was pleasing in its own way. We ordered oysters (which were acceptable) and several small plates, highlighted by the corn fritters. Ample vegetarian menu and vegan options, though the vegan chili and cassoulet are not that dissimilar. We had a truly delightful lemon meringue pie at the end, among the best I've had, and I asked to sample a sip of rhubarb liqueur they used, as I'd never heard of that. It was very loud, and the bar was very crowded, but that may have been due to Mardi Gras, I suppose. I will probably go back sometime for brunch!"

  • "A great addition to the Los Feliz scene. The oyster bar is a terrific idea. But as the place has become so popular, the noise level has risen to crazy levels. You can hardly hear another person at your table."

  • "Loved: oyster selection and probably the best cole slaw I've ever had. OK: The corn fritters, the burger and the fried chicken. They were good but not the best I've ever had. The fried chicken was really crispy and juicy but not very well seasoned. Didn't like: the mashed potatoes: bland. brussel sprouts: really mushy. Kale salad: great idea but they used mature kale which was too tough and bitter...it was very unbalanced against the anchovy (which was prevalent) It also gets very loud when the restaurant is full, maybe sitting outside is a better option. Our waitress was pleasant and overall it was an enjoyable experience but not sure I'd sit in an hour of traffic to do it again."

  • "Good food, drinks, atmosphere. Only complaint: extremely noisy inside & they should turn off the TV sets during meal times -- very distracting."

  • "Its good -really tasty takes on homestyle cooking like ribs and fried chicken, a decent price range with burgers from $16 to duck and lamb and the like at $30 a plate. A dinner for 2 can range from $50 up. A pretty cool patio area with 2 fire pits with community seating around them, The whole atmosphere has a woodsy/camp site vibe, with the servers outfits consisting of flannel shirts etc. Also they have an oyster bar if thats your thing."

  • "$1 oyster on Tuesday is wonderful. $10 corkage also a plus. Very friendly staff, even the valet staff. My only criticism would be the noise level. Can't very well enjoy the food if I am constantly reading lips......."

  • "I didn't expect to have brunch when i made the reservation but it was a nice surprise, we had a good size group and everyone was very happy, the table that we got was awesome, and even with the wait they honored our reservation even though I was a little late. awesome place, awesome service, great food. Cool location to, very close to griffith park"

  • "Great ambience, extremely friendly and accommodating staff. Our waiter was excellent, served our party of 8 to everyone's complete & utter satisfaction. A mixture of menu items were ordered by our party, Scallops, Short Ribs, Petite Filet, Fried Chicken, Burgers & Salads and EVERYTHING was delicious! We topped off our meal(s) with one order each of the Banana Crème Jar Pie and Some More desserts which we all shared and thoroughly enjoyed. We will definitely dine here again and tell our friends about it."

  • "Communal fire pit dining makes for a warm atmosphere even when it's cold out. Generous servings. Attentive service that didn't kick us out even well-past when the valet parker gave us our keys and the last patrons had left. Would definitely return."

  • "It's tough to rate this as three stars, because it feels like it should be a four or maybe even five star place. Overall the experience was great. Food was presented well. But something about the taste just left us, well, feeling like the taste didn't match up with the presentation. The meat even cut so well - with a fork at that! - but just no sparks when it hit our tastebuds. Despite its proximity, I do not know if I would return."

  • "Came here for DineLA and wasn't blown away...We had the corn fritters and chicken wings as appetizers. The fritters were probably the best thing of the night. The chicken wings were good but not amazing. The fried chicken came with mashed potatoes plus slaw. The fried chicken was a little over fried & lacked seasoning. The ribs came with a side of beans and the same slaw as the chicken. The beans were horrible, the slaw was slightly better but bland. The ribs were on the drier side. For dessert we picked the 'some more' (aka s'mores) and lemon meringue pie. I think the pie was better than the s'mores. Service was okay. The person refilling our waters was really attentive. Our actually server left a little to be desired."

  • "My favorite burger and fries, but very disappointed that there is no longer a lunch special. Used to be able to get the delicious Mess Burger, best fries ever & kale salad for $15. Now, the burger is $11, fries are $5, and the kale salad is $9 -- my $15 lunch is now $25! No longer worth it. Not sure if I'll return."

  • "I really wanted to love this restaurant. The food was overall good but my Omelet was lack luster and underwhelming. I will definitely give it a second chance but maybe this time for lunch or dinner."

  • "This restaurant is great for a meal with friends. The starter menu was perfect for us to share five small plates between three of us, each had a glass of wine and also shared a dessert for a very reasonable price. I'm definitely returning and hope to enjoy their outside patio once the evenings warm up a bit."

  • "We came to Messhall with a devout carnivore, someone on a serious diet, and a vegan. The menu had something perfect for ALL of us! There were even things everyone could agree to share. Way to go, Messhall!"

  • "A unique, fun, interesting theme throughout with exceptional cocktails, micro-brews, and a foodie's kind of food. Plus, fantastic oysters which was a surprise to find. It's not a sports bar at all, but it was an added bonus that there are couple tv's and we were able to keep an eye on the Sunday night game too. The patio with fire tables, and the rustic decor, yet modern, and inspired down home cookin' really put this one on my list of faves. Just exceptional, a real find!"

  • "I love the transformation of this spot from Louise's to Messhall but the inside noise level for a Boomer like me is overwhelming, so I am always distracted when eating in and I have to think twice regarding noise levels when suggesting your place as a dining destination. I am obviously not your target demo but you've al least so heard me. Your food is fantastic !!!!!"

  • "Food and service is always excellent. If I had one small complaint it would be that the noise level can get a bit loud."
