Mesob surpasses most and is as good or better, than even the best that D.C. has to offer. Staff is friendly, attentive, knowledgable and stunningly beautiful. I try Ethiopian wherever I go, and none has ever measured up. The place is spacious, warm and clean. The owner is one of the warmest and charming people you will EVER meet, the same for her waitstaff (mostly family.) The tables and settings are always spotless. The food is healthy - although NOT low in oil be aware - and fun as injera is plate, food and utensil all in one. Carnivores and vegetarians alike will have no trouble with choices same for those preferring lamb or chicken or shrimp. They have fantastic desserts and you MUST leave space and energy for the Ethiopian coffee. Waitress guided us into making great choices. Vegan daughter, great options. Owner came by at end of meal and gave the mom at our table a beautiful rose. The dishes are refreshingly simple, with just a few ingredients that are expertly prepared and seasoned perfectly. The injera bread is so addicting that I wanted to keep eating it even after I was stuffed! Half of the fun is eating with your hands. Must be good with double dipping though. Unless you use silverware, but that takes the fun out of this place. A great choice for your first visit...get a chance to try a few different styles of meat. It also came with your choice of three vegetable. Our favorite meat was the lamb and our favorite vegetable choice was the mushrooms. Great atmosphere. Previously we lived in Highland Park, NJ & were huge fans of Makeda & were sad when it closed.
Having Mesob just blocks away from us in our new hometown is such a treat!
Mesob is such a warm & inviting setting. The owners are sisters, one in the back running the kitchen, the other running the front end.
Service is always attentative & friendly. The food is AH-MAZING. Mesob is the restaurant we always bring out of town guests to eat. BYOB.
Do try Mesob, you will not be unhappy that you did!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA unique dining experienceA unique dining experience in which small,tapas-lie portions of meat and vegetable dishes are served on a sour bread-like pancake meant to be eaten by pushing the food into your mouth with the bread (forks and knifes are readily available). Attractive, young and polite wait service and pleasant ambience compliment the dining experience.
