Diner Reviews
  • "The food was great. I am a vegan and they accommodated me very well in making some spinach enchiladas ---they were not on the menu. The specialty margarita with muddled avocado was really good as well as the Mexican martini! This was our first time to eat there and we will definitely go back. Our waiter was excellent and very accommodating. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "We drive a considerable distance to dine at Meso Maya. We were seated immediately with our OpenTable reservation while we saw many people waiting for their table. The guacamole appetizer was creamy and spiced nicely. We had entrees of Pollo con Mole and Short Ribs Relleno which were both excellent and not things found at many other Mexican restaurants. Overall, an enjoyable casual Saturday dinner experience."

  • "Meso Maya continues to get better and better. The servers are very friendly and accommodating. The food is always very fresh and delicious. Especially nice are the healthy offerings of fresh vegetables. A great neighborhood restaurant you can always count on."

  • "After reading others reviews, I was really looking forward to a non-Tex-Mex dinner. It was so loud, our little table of 4 could barely hear each other. Ambiance is not great. Just one big room with tables. I haven't been to the downtown location yet and hope it's better. Our waiter was very young and didn't know the menu well, never refilled our water glasses, and asked if we were there for a special occasion ( friends birthday)and still didn't bring my friend a birthday dessert or even a dessert menu!!! I would not go back to this location. The noise level was so high it made the dining experience uncomfortable."

  • "Server didn't know the tequila used in the basic margarita. Two of us ordered a salad and chicken enchilada, one ordered just an entree, other ordered guacamole and tortilla soup. Most everything we ordered was served at the same time. One salad was served, I was served my salad with the enchilada plate, another of us was served the guacamole and soup together, and the other person was served the entree. The other enchilada arrived later, as it should. The margarita tasted like lemonade, not a hint of tequila. The tortilla soup was barely warm, the entree was barely warm. The mole sauce was overpowering on the enchilada. I've made chicken mole from scratch and it can be very complementary without being too much."

  • "With the front of this restaurant opened, we had the feel of a covered patio on a perfect evening. Service was prompt and efficient. The cocktails were prepared exactly as requested and they were delicious. You must try the avocado margarita! The entrees were beautifully presented, and delicious. The arugula salad, and shrimp tacos were standouts at our table. We visit Meso Maya frequently and have enjoyed it every time. Highly recommended."

  • "Completely authentic Mexican food, with a foodie twist. Not the norm, which we loved. The appetizers were amazing, including Pig Jowls, which were amazing. I had authentic Mexican Soup, which can't be described. Just inspired."

  • "This location unfortunately doesn't match up to the service and food at the downtown location. Drinks are watered down. I ordered the same menu items at this location as I have on numerous occasions at the down town location and was disappointed. Food was rushed out – so that makes me wonder how much was prepared in advance. We had to ask for the appetizer plates to be cleared when the entrees were brought out and at no time were we asked about the food. I had noted that this occasion was “special” in the reservation - my mom’s birthday. Server never acknowledged that and in fact he brought out the bill prior to asking about desert. I had to add desert and he had to take the bill back. We won’t be back."

  • "I made a reservation for 8 adults, unfortunately, we were seated in the back corner of the restaurant. This room is obviously used for youth groups; therefore, we were seated with 2 large groups of loud children's sports teams. The room was much too loud for adult conversation, so we ate and left for a quieter, more enjoyable location. These large groups also dominated the service staff's time and attention."

  • "5 women--everyone adored the food. We live all over the greater Dallas area, but no one had been there before (except me!) We left with everyone complimenting the decor, location, presentation and quality of food--and several with take-home boxes because the portions are so large. Accommodated us with separate checks. Strongly recommend."

  • "We were running late due to the construction on 635 so I called ahead to let them know. They were very cordial and accommodating. Upon arrival, I was surprised that they were in a shopping center and began to have second thoughts. However, given that it was V-Day and that they had made special accommodations for us, we went in. The service was exceptional, the food was delicious, and the margarita's are definitely "top shelf"! I highly recommend Meso Maya!"

  • "We eat at Mesomaya probably once per week and its always great. Its not your typical Tex-Mex place so if you are seeking that, its not your deal. Its more like real Mexican food. We get the street Tacos, Carne Asada and the Budin. They not huge portions like most Mexican places so you won't feel stuffed. Great Queso and Quac if you are into it. Their Margaritas are always good as well. Great service! They treat us like Cheers!"

  • "I have been to both locations now and I can say that I prefer the downtown location, by far. The food is equally as good, but I would just prefer to have a meal without a bunch of screaming kids. With it's proximity to neighboring homes, I should have known what I was getting myself into."

  • "The food was great and the server was helpful in picking out our appetizer. The food was authentic, delicious, and presented adequately. I had cochinita pipil which was very tender and the sauce that it came with was great. I am absolutely looking forward to going again."

  • "The booth was so large, that felt like people across the table were more like across the room. Menu description wasn't exactly accurate, but food still good. Would go again just for the chips served before the meal!"

  • "I love mexican food but am mostly disappointed when I go. But Meso Maya may be the singular best I've experienced. I've eaten at the best of what LA has to offer, AZ, DC, NYC and nothing rivals the good or the service. This is in a league of its own."

  • "The house tequila was excellent. The queso fundido was unique and very good. Very enjoyable dinner. A little noisy for my tastes - some hanging partitions or something to quiet the dining room would be nice."

  • "We took friends to Meso Maya on a Friday night and were surprised at how much more livelly it was than on our first visit. We wanted to show how Mexican food does not necessarily have to be Tex-Mex in Dallas. And on that point, we scored a home run. Meso Maya really has one of the most innovative menus I've seen. But the noise level and the obvious promotion of a bar scene in the middle of the room was a disappointment. Our waiter seemed harried and not particularly interested in helping us make selections. Once the food came, all was fine and I highly recommend just about anything on the menu. I suspect Meso Maya is working hard to pull in a different demographic than our crowd. We'll still go for the food. But not on a weekend."

  • "This is not a Tex-Mex restaurant, but an excellent "authentic" Mexcian food restaurant. The first evening I was there with my husband and son. I had the Pescado Salteado with a glass of sparkling white wine (cava) from Spain. It was all wonderful! I enjoyed everything so much, I took a couple of friends there for lunch a week later. This time I tried the crab and shrimp enchiladas. Again, everything was yummy. We topped the meal off with a sample of all their desserts except the crepes. I would highly recommend them all and especially the blueberry cake with ice cream! I definitely make this place a regular "must!""

  • "Our food was excellent. The salads some of our ladies had was dressed well and ample. The tacos are excellent and the service is great. Nice to have good food and an atmosphere that is conducive to a business lunch for conversation. The salsa and chips are great and many of us judge a Mexican restaurant by the chips and salsa first."

  • "Tried to just show up when it first opened. Highly recommend reservations. Went twice in one week-took friends to share our "find." The food is outstanding and the service is excellent. Enough said-don't everybody go! :)"

  • "Celebrating a birthday. Drinks, appetizers, and most entrees were very good. However, the salmon herradura was one of the worst things I've ever put in my mouth. Salmon was over-cooked and the herradura "glaze" was just a big glob of sticky goo placed on top of the salmon filet. Extremely tart! I had to send it back. Grateful that the server removed it from my bill. Since it was the most expensive item on the dinner menu, I was very shocked at the poor execution of the dish."
