Diner Reviews
  • "Restaurant canceled reservation after the party checked in."

  • "Meso Maya has a very interesting non-TexMex menu. Wide variety of very interesting dishes and flavors. If you are tired of traditional TexMex give it a try. The downtown location is very accessible with great parking close by. The service was great and the noise level for a late business lunch was minimal. I highly recommend Meso Maya."

  • "We went to Meso Maya for brunch on a Sunday around 11. It wasn't terribly crowded, which was nice. We were a party of 8 (4 kids). The kids menu is pretty limited, but there were options for customizing items off the regular menu to suit their tastes. Service wasn't super speedy, but it was adequate. The food was much better than I remembered, so that was a pleasant surprise. All in all, we had a great visit and would return."

  • "Made an appointment for 8:30 I get there and they seat people that arrive without appointments, before us. I patiently waited for 20 minutes and ask the hostess if they have anything available yet. Magically they have a booth available after seeing me and my party stand in front of them for 20 minutes. The waiter was fast, but made indirect flirtatious comments towards my wife! Luckily for him I shrugged it off."

  • "I decided to go here based on internet reviews. I am glad I did. The vegetarian dishes are very tasty and the wine list, though small, has diverse wines and prices ranges. There were three of us at dinner and each was very happy with what they ordered. Though this is not a foodie destination, it is definitely a cut above most restaurants in uptown."

  • "We eat out often (all the time). We critique every location and every meal. Rarely does a meal out complete without a critical flaw. The meal and experience at Meso Maya was superior. Food, service and ambiance was outstanding. We sat on the patio which was very comfortable for July evening due to the misters. The walled in nature of the patio was awesome. Our waiter was skilled in his art and also seemed to be a really smart guy (which helps sometimes). And finally the food was excellent. Well done. We will definitely go back soon."

  • "One of my favorite mexican food places in the metroplex. Never a disappointment."

  • "I took my family there from out of town and it was fabulous as always! Our only complaint is that it was so loud that we couldn't hear each other."

  • "We love the variety on the menu with specialty items as well some semi Tex Mex food. The service is attentive and the selection of tequila drinks is good. The Mexican martini is nice without all the calories of the margarita."

  • "Tried it last time in Dallas and made reservations this trip. Great place to take clients for very good Mexican food. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Noise level is high, but not too much as to not hear your party."

  • "If you want the same old Mexican food, don't go here. We visited on father's day and totally enjoyed their chips and salsa. We tried the guacamole and queso (white), again excellent. We tried Brisket tacos and enchiladas, salmon and carne asada. All were prepared beautifully and full of flavor with adobe sauce and flavorful toppings. Try the blueberry cake with ice cream. Much like a cobbler. We also had an excellent waiter who continued to check on our needs."

  • "Meso Maya is a wonderful restaurant. I went there for lunch/brunch with my sister and was very impressed with the food. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. I had one of the brunch dishes (potatoes, eggs, brisket, poblanos) and my sister had the lunch (taco, salad) special. We shared the guacamole. The brunch cocktails (sangria, mimosas) were very good and a great value at $2/each. The service was also exemplary. I don't remember our server's name, but she had dark hair and braces. We sat outside and it was cool (even with the Texas summer) and relaxing-great ambience. I also wish I could have bottled the salsa & took it home! I was visiting Dallas for the weekend with my sister and this was a dining highlight of my trip."

  • "I simply LOVED this place!!! The chips were fresh and the salsa was over the top, not too spicy and great flavor! I ordered the homemade sangria swirl margarita and I daresay it is one of the best I have ever had!! Three of the four of us ordered BUDIN AZTECA, a layered cheese and tortilla dish. At the waitress's recommendation I chose the Carne (tender tenderloin chuncks) with a red sauce that was to die for!!! I really mean it!!! My husband had the shrimp and the friend had the chicken ... both with a green tomatillo sauce that was delicious as well! To top the dinner off we shared the sampling of the 3 desserts they offer ... all 3 were over the top!! I would definitely return!!!!! DEFINITELY!!!"

  • "Perfect for date night or a girls' night out. The patio was cool and comfortable despite the warm evening. Food is always delicious. We stayed for hours but our server, Gabby, was patient and gracious. We'll go back soon."

  • "We had 3 waitstaff hovering over us the entire time and nothing ever got done. Simple order of guac and queso never made it out, drink orders were messed up, noise level was out of control. Our entrees were very good."

  • "3 of the 4 in our party already knew in advance that they wanted the ceviche salad and yet they were out....again. The waiter was so confident that they had it and then came back apologizing that they were out. Menus were handed back out, 3 of the 4 reordered and the 4th person's food was delivered while they were still ordering. What is the deal? If you know an item is popular, have enough of it on hand to serve your customers."

  • "Was our first time to dine here. The staff was friendly, but not overly polished. By far the highlight was the food. Dining area was very open and a little stark. Excellent food, good prices, friendly but very casual staff, atmosphere was lacking."

  • "Food was very good, and our server was very attentive without being intrusive. Enjoyable atmosphere, too."

  • "We made reservations online for 7:15pm on a Sat evening in downtown. Showed up at 7pm anticipating time for a drink while we waited, we were greeted and sat immediately. I requested outside as it was our anniversary and we were accommodated without question. Our server was Edgar who had an extensive knowledge of the menu and history of the unique "Southern Mexican/Mayan" dishes. Was a great place in a great location across the street from the Clyde Warren Park and the Perot Museum. Would definitely visit again. "

  • "No trip to or through Dallas is complete without a meal at Meso Maya. This is the best, most authentic Mexican fare north of the border. The ceviche is a must. Our servers have always been attentive, friendly, and efficient. Try it, you will like it!"

  • "The food was delicious, our waiter was very attentive. They have a very nice rich and smokey salsa negra that's not too spicy and full of flavor, served with tortilla chip strips, instead of the traditional triangles. They have the best avocado margarita I have ever had! We ordered the ceviche, short rib relleno and the chuleta de puerco (giant bone in pork chop). Not only were the mains awesome but the sides were amazing as well, the elote con crema is a must! I am looking forward to going back. "

  • "Same as the last time: a different and delicious take on Mexican dining. Same as the last time: prompt, polite, and attentive service. Same as the last time: we will be back again."

  • "I wrote a 5 star review of this same place in April. This time we went at 4pm on a Saturday. Waited for 10 mins before we got water. Another 10 before drinks arrived (we were on the patio with kids and it was hot). Ordered and waiter forgot several things, got multiple things wrong. Was filling up cokes from a pitcher sitting in the sun. Finally came and asked if we wanted dessert. We said no thank you and asked for the check. Another FIFTEEN minutes later he came back to ask IF WEWANTED DESSERT!!!! Did I mention we were there with kids? It was an awful awful experience. Seriously disappointed. "

  • "This is the best Mexican food I've had in a long time! Spicy, but not overpowering. Excellent flavor. The salsa is incredible--they roast it in house daily! The margaritas were also excellent. We sat outside on a beautiful summer evening. The drinks were refreshing and the patio was full but not overcrowded, and had plenty of shade and airflow. The service was fantastic. Attentive, cordial and made good suggestions. I will most definitely be coming back here! My whole family loved it!!"

  • "I took my wife for a quiet dinner and was not disappointed. Not your basic tex mex at all. I had a salmon dish that was great and my wife had seafood enchiladas which were also great. Check it out. "

  • "Perfect patio for celebrating Cinco de Mayo! I was able to make reservations online so easy through Open Table and we only had to wait about 15 minutes for our party of 8 to get the perfect spot outside to enjoy our delish margaritas, chips, guac and entrees! We will absolutely go back for the phenomenal food, drinks and service! "

  • "It was my first time at meso maya, and I was thrilled with how delish the food was! Also, the patio is amazing on a pretty day! It was really busy, but I'm not sure if that is partly because I went on cinco de mayo, I will be going back"

  • "We were seated right at our reservation time even though the restaurant was very busy. Service was a little slow probably due to the crowd but not too bad. Food was excellent as were drinks. "

  • "Unfortunately the one date night a month my husband and I get now that our baby is here was spent at MesoMaya. The hostess was terrible when we checked in with a reservation and didn't want to seat us outside despite all the open tables. Once we were seated it took about 15 minutes to get a waiter to bring us water, which was frustrating (because of babysitting time limits) and then at that point I just ordered everything from chips and salsa to my dinner and dessert. The food came out about 60 seconds later and was followed by us flagging down a server several times asking for our margaritas, which finally came out after we had finished our entrees. I cancelled my dessert order and we will probably never return. Food was great however. "

  • "Hostesses were unable to keep up with the 7:30 onslaught. Huge backup at the door. Even with a reservation and checked in still had to enlist a manager to get seated. That aside, the food was great as always. Had the Pollo Budin Azetca…the best dish I've ever had there. Also, their salsa can't be beat!"

  • "Nice "outdoor" seating in an interior courtyard. Great guacamole."

  • "Meso Maya is always an amazing spot. Food was great, drinks were great, the waitstaff was very friendly. It was very crowded and somewhat loud, but that's more an issue with the time I booked (Saturday 7pm) than a problem with the restaurant. Thanks again, guys! Keep doing what you're doing. "

  • "Hands down, they have the best guac I have ever had. And their chips are very good also. My companion and I both had salmon. The Salmon de Coco was a nice sized filet of good tasting, moist fish with rice cook with coconut milk. I had the Herradura Salmon. It was two thinner pieces of salmon with charred brussel sprouts. The salmon was a little on the dry side and I could not detect and hint of tequila. I would not order it again but I would certainly get the Salmon de Coco. Our waiter was very personable and helpful. "

  • "Food was very good with a lot of choices and much more interesting than Tex Mex restaurants. Ambiance is great but noise level makes conversation challenging. Service was attentive without being obtrusive. A good choice."
