Diner Reviews
  • "I've been here once before with a group from work and both times I sat outside. I don't usually like salsa because I don't like tomatoes but I could eat their salsa for days on end! The brisket enchilada was amazing the first time I went. The plate is void of color but their is nothing lacking in taste. This 2nd visit, my friend and I had our plates come out way sooner than expected, which made me feel like they may have already had their popular plates lined up under heating lamps. After all, it was a pretty busy on a Friday night. So the enchilada was not as great but still better than most. If you are trying it out for the first time, I would recommend going for a later lunch during the week (around 1PM or 2PM)."

  • "Favorite restaurant - very fresh, flavorful, well presented food. Servers are all excellent. Sitting outside on the patio is delightful. Reserve ahead of time to sit outside on nice day. Plantains are excellent for dessert."

  • "Great food, great service and great drinks!; and if you not a tequila drinker like myself they will gladly swap vodka or anything else to ensure a good drink!"

  • "Walking distance from the Crescent and the Ritz. Great outdoor dining. Best guacamole I've ever had. Roberto was also one if the best servers I've ever had -I don't even like tequila but decided to try their signature margarita with muddled cucumber, no salt and it was delightful! The ceviche salad is also not to be missed!"

  • "We go to Mesomaya for a lot of group work lunches. It is always great and service is excellent, pretty quick. The food is delicious, I loved the Mole Enchiladas and can't get enough of the Sopa de Lima. The ceviche looks good as well!"

  • "This is a nice place for special occassions though I feel that the prices are a little high. Our waiter was very attentive nd the food was plentiful and very good. Since I have become porton conscious, I would say very it is very easy to split a plate and come away satisfied. Excellent Civiche."

  • "We were pleased that Meso Maya had opened a quieter upstairs dining room, as the downstairs - great if you want a lot of people and a lot of energy - can be noisy. Food was outstanding all around (you have to try their ceviche sometime - best in Dallas), and the service was better than outstanding. The waitress (Gaby) was very attentive and went well out of her way to please - even bringing us two alternative tomatillo sauces for tortilla dipping. The chef (Nico) came out and talked to us about the food and Mexico - a most pleasant guy. The top shelf margaritas were excellent, and the bartender came over to check on that, too - another really super guy. On the whole we had a terrific dinner with terrific service and a great staff."

  • "A more sophisticated vibe than many Mexican restaurants. Attractive bar, great back terrace, excellent special cocktails, including a mescal version margarita. Outstandingly fresh guacamole and wonderful posole. And they take reservations! A real plus for a weekend night out."

  • "Went to lunch with some co-workers. Service was great - very attentive waiter. He was very knowledgable and made some great suggestions which were right on the mark! Food was fabulous and great atmosphere. Will continue to keep Meso Mayo on the short list of go-to mexi restaurants."

  • "Authentic Mexican cuisine was outstanding & sets this place apart from the many other "Tex-Mex" restaurants in this area. Outdoor dining was special and the service was way above average - all this with very reasonable pricing - their special Margaritas were excellent & unique !"

  • "My husband and I love this restaurant !Great ambiance , the food is delicious and very reasonably priced for the quality and the service is exceptional .Hector and Tanya are great and Cion went above and beyond .There are lots of great restaurants we could go to but the overall experience keeps us returning to Meso Maya!"

  • "The entire dining experience was first class. Our server, Daniel, had spot on suggestions, but was ready to listen to our questions before pairing the right drink/entree/coffee/dessert with our taste. I would highly recommend this restaurant to those who love great food and excellent service."

  • "We head over to this spot once or twice a month for lunch. It's consistenyl excellent. Everything I've tried has been good, but the cucumber margarita sticks out especially. Pair it with the carne asada."

  • "Very fresh, very authentic. The Oaxaca and avocado margaritas were also fabulous. Would definitely return!"

  • "Great Mexican food without al the chilis and heavy sauces. Have eaten there twice and not been disappointed either time."

  • "We sat down and immediately enjoyed the potion atmosphere. Waiter, very attentive with lots of energy, recommended a avocado marguarita. So delicious. Queso flamado very good also. After that it started to go down hill. My husband ordered a beef dish and I order a chicken one. Neither one of them had much flavor. So disappointed. Then our waiter just disappeared. We had to wait forever for our ticket. The service might have just been a hiccup but the food was definitely nothing very excited. The menu has some great items on it they just forgot to make them taste great."

  • "This restaurant is one of my new favorites, but the service continually declines with each visit. Every waiter I've had starts off the evening with a fantastic greeting (making you think you're in for great service), but soon he's nowhere to be found, the salsa bowls and chip bowls are empty, you can't reorder drinks, and have to track him down to get your check."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "After rave reviews, I was disappointed with my experience. Service was o.k., food good, but not WOW as others found. The worse aspect is the noise. This location needs to add some absorption of noise (fabric) as we could barley hear each other."

  • "I think the Pazole Verede is great! Warm and buttery flavor. Chilaquilles are also yummy. A great break from traditional Tex Mex."

  • "Great place to enjoy good dining before a stars game. Food is superb. No Tex-mex fare this stuff is authentic."

  • "I brought a group of 4 here to dine prior to a concert at the American Airlines Center. I had dined at the Preston/Forest location previously but not this one. The inside dining room is spacious with tables not too crowded together. The pleasant surprise was the courtyard patio where we were seated. It's lovely, and was comfortable with the patio heaters going. Drinks service was slow (I assume this was due to a back-up at the bar, as the waiter was attentive and food items arrived promptly). The food is excellent and is based on regional Mexican cooking (not Tex-Mex), but with a modern flair. Prices are very reasonable given the portions, ingredient quality and composition of the dishes."

  • "Spicy traditional Mexican is a refreshing change from garish Tex-Mex scene. I have a new favorite and look forward to sharing it with friends? The soups are my fave so far!"

  • "This was a nice upgrade from the typical Mexican food restaurants. Group of four really enjoyed the food and experience!"

  • "My 4th trip to Meso Maya. Food is consistent and good, but not great. Also a bit pricey for tex-mex. Special margaritas are fabulous, however. Our waiter was stellar and very helpful. The outdoor dining is really nice for a downtown location."

  • "VERY loud so tough on hearing impaired. Waiter pushed Carne Asada which was over cooked and tough as a boot. Lady friend liked hers? Great chips and hot sauce. Sides were so so. Tasted pork which was great! Service slow but it was packed. Would try once more and order something else."

  • "Enjoyed the food. Upscale menu, not your usual taco and enchilada. Service was a little slow. Make sure you don't have a time sensitive schedule."

  • "Food, service, ambience, and drinks were all amazing. Can't say enough good things. Can't wait to go back. Looking forward to the upstairs opening. Wait staff was very profesional and catered to all our needs."

  • "I have been there twice before events at the AAC and we really enjoy the drinks, food and ambiance. You can linger if you want but can get in and out in an hour without feeling rushed. Great staff as well."

  • "It was a nice day so we sat in the beautiful patio area. It's fully enclosed and a lovely place to have lunch. The food was terrific. I had the chef's special "Mexican lasagna" (can't remember what it is called on the menu, but instead of lasagna noodles, there are layers of tortillas, along with cheese, meat, etc.) It was delicious! I am still thinking about it! Service was prompt and friendly. And I loved the mango ice tea!"

  • "Very slow greet. Water took awhile. Chips took 20m to arrive to the table AFTER placing our entree order. We wanted to order cocktails but feared that would take too long as well. We needed to be somewhere after dinner and was hoping to be in and out that's why we ordered dinner as soon as the waiter came but with the very very slow service and non attentive waiter it took us over and hour. Why? When we order dinner with no apps the first 10m of being seated? I will say the waiter got one order correct out of two. The food was great as well as the restaurant. Your servers just need to be more attentive and maybe learn to consolidate steps of service."

  • "We showed up about 10 minutes early with our reservations. We were seated immediately and greeted quickly for our drink order. Everything was perfect, and the host addressed me by name as we left. Overall, a great night!"

  • "My wife and I had reservations and upon arrival were quickly sat. Our waiter was prompt and very knowledgeable about their menu. The menu was inventive and our food was delicious! Great location and atmosphere. We will definitely go back!"

  • "Food was amazing. I definitely recommend the Carne Asada with the delicious homemade white corn tortillas. For those of you looking for a tex-mex flare, you won't find it here. Fresh choices, authentic sauces and unique flavors abound. Our waiter, Hector, was quick to explain the menu and make suggestions based on our personal tastes. The atmosphere is high energy and can be a bit extravagant for conversation. Start off with the Cerviche and finish with the Flan. The only slight disappointment was the salsa... there was a particular flavor which was unappealing to me. However the Queso Poblano with brisket made up for that!"

  • "Service was very slow and we were squeezed in a small table in the back. The food was different, not tradidtional mexican food, but good flavor."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "The food at Meso Maya was great. The service was very attentive, but not overly so. The chips and salsa were better than average, and the guacamole was delicious. I had the relleno with pork, it was wonderful. This is not your typical Tex-Mex restaurant, which I always enjoy. But Meso Maya is more authentic Mexican, and a step above the usual Mexican fare. We had reservations on a busy, Friday night, and were seated within minutes of our arrival. It was rather noisy, and a bit difficult to have an intimate conversation with a date. But overall, I recommend Meso Mayo."

  • "I went to Meso Maya with my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. Was seated outside and it was pretty, with heating lamps throughout to keep it comfortable. The food was great as was the service. He had the cochinita pibil which was outstanding, and I had the chef's special, which was a red snapper dish, which was also very good(I would recommend the pibil though. SO GOOD.) We also had the Queso Fundido Appetizer and Sampler desert. The drinks were awesome, especially the avocado margarita. It sounds weird, but it's delicious. The only thing is that it is very easy to rack up a bill..I was budgeting 100 and ended up with a bill about 200 with tip included. Not terrible for special occasions, but it might be a little expensive on a normal basis."
