The service was a bit slow but we were happy to see the place more crowded than on some previous visits. We'd hate to see this restaurant fil since the menu is great and there are so few French bistro type places in north Jersey."

  • "This was our second visit to Mes Reves and we were both disappointed to find that areas we hoped would improve like service and food quality actually declined. The chef/owner has a penchant for hanging out with friends in the front while the clearly inexperienced kitchen staff goof off. We could actually see them leaning on counters and chatting aimlessly. The lack of experience and attention to detail shows everywhere."

The interior was surprisingly attractive, after viewing a less than inviting exterior.   • "I made reservations on OpenTable and noted it was for a birthday celebration. The inside is simply decorated and feels like a mix of modern and rustic French village. Nicely done! Service was attentive and friendly. I had the Pork Tenderloin and my friend had the Cornish Hen. Both were done to perfection and the sides of Brussel sprouts and mashed potato and puréed sweet potatoes were creamy and flavorful. The chef came out with a complimentary Chocolate Soufflé that was not too heavy or rich....light and flavorful. It is a BYOB and I would recommend to friends and go again!"

  • "Food was very good. VERY good. However, it was very rich, and did not like me as much as I liked it. The service was on the slow side...ok for dinner, but we were hungry! Servers were friendly, but seemed a bit inexperienced. All in all, a nice evening out."

  • "I would recommend this place for something new, or a special occasion. My husband had the crab cakes and said they were the best he's ever had. My short ribs were delicious, and the portion was generous enough for me to get two meals out of it. The food and the service were top notch. Unfortunately the noise level was high and the tables were too close together (we were seated next to a loud, annoying group, but the restaurant really can't help that). While the food was delicious, the menu was somewhat limited, which is why I don't see it becoming our "go to" place. But I have recommended it, and we will be back."

  • "After many great recommendations from friends, I took my husband to Mes Reves for his birthday. We both enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Foods service was quick. I loved my meal selection of the risotto and scallops. My husband enjoyed his steak which was cooked medium rare as requested. Many restaurants over or under cook the steak but Mes Reves got it just right. We would definitely go back for special occasions. "

Our Anniversary provided the occasion to try what turned out to be a special, yet approachable restaurant. Excellent food and friendly, attentive staff. Upscale decor without a hint of presumption. We enjoyed each course and delightful conversation with the waitress. I'd recommend Mes Reves to anyone looking for a fine dining experience in the heart of Bloomfield."

  • "My wife wanted to celebrate my birthday, but I know she wanted to go to a restaurant with a good duck entrée. After seeing the reviews for Mes Reves I decided to give it a shot and book the reservation. We arrived a little late to the restaurant but was surprised to see that we were the first diners for the evening. The decor was welcoming and the staff very friendly. My wife loved the Pan Seared Duck Breast, but did not really care for the grilled endive. I had the Pan Seared Salmon and it was cooked perfectly and was very flavorful. I ordered the Bread Pudding for desert but was surprised to receive chocolate souffle as well with a birthday candle. Needless to say we are already planning our next date night at Mes Reves."

  • "On a request through OT, Tran designed a special celebration meal for us that displayed the highlights of his current menu and technique. His cuisine has always not just pleased but has demonstrated the deeper qualities of fine, contemporary cooking - from his rich sauces, to the delicate preparation of seafoods, to the lightness of soufflés, to proper plating temperatures and visual presentation. Attentive service completes the picture. Try the fois gras, skate, scallops, rabbit when available, and chocolate soufflé. Few restaurants in the region demonstrate relentless attention to craft, and this is one of them."

  • "We tried Mes Reves after a friend recommended it. Tried to walk in without a reservation last weekend, but it was packed. Hostess was very kind and we liked the atmosphere. We reserved online and were happy to get our preferred time. Had to laugh when we walked in and saw several people we knew from our town. Food was excellent, had the crab cake appetizer, and sea bass special with gnocchi. Chocolate soufflé was ok, I wish I had tried the vanilla instead. Will definitely be back!"

  • "Delicious, as always! I started with the foie gras, followed up by rack of lamb. My friend started with crab cakes, then vacillated between steak frites and beef bourguignon. He went with the beef bourguignon, a special, reasoning he could come back and have the steak frites (a regular menu item) any time. We are repeat visitors to this restaurant, and the hostess, waitress, and sous-chef all greeted us by name. Don't skip the souffle (chocolate or vanilla, both yummy)!"

The scallops appetizer was awesome, and the steak frites was as good as any you would find in a Parisian bistro. Very simple menu, but something for everyone. Only gripe is that the tables are pretty close together."

  • "This my third time there and it was as enjoyable as the first experience. I usually go during the week and was surprised to see that it was filled to capacity on a Sat. night. Also, there were specials in addition to the menu which are not offered on weeknights. We have brought different friends with us each time and they have all been pleased and said they would definitely go back which is the same with the people I have recommended it to. A winner!"

  • "Fois gras and Sweet Bread appetizers were really good, I do not normally eat sweet breads but these we great and my girlfriend loved the fois gras. I had skate wing, which I never tried before, it was really tasty with the mushrooms and couscous in a balsamic reduction it was different and satisfying. I'd love to try it in a lemon sauce with the couscous and maybe brussel sprouts or another green vegetable. My date had the venison which was perfectly cooked and heartily devoured. We had ordered the special dessert of the night chocolate soufflé served with a chamborge crème,it was fantastic!!!! This should be permanent item on their menu. (It came in vanilla too). The wait staff was pleasant but need to pay more attention to patrons."

  • "This place was great. Great atmosphere, great food, great service, and more.The owners and staff were very attentive and friendly. I lost track of time while I was there. We had appetizers (escargot, mushroom tart, calamari salad, mussels), and then steaks, lamb, and scallops. YUM!!!"
