Every time we go to Maui we make sure to visit Merrimans. This trip we actually went there twice -- deciding that it needed to be the place we had our farwell dinner. The food is delicious, fresh and inventive without being overly fancy or bizarre in how it is prepared. The service is top notch and helpful in putting together the best food/wine combinations. The view and location is amazing and can't be beat. No wonder we saw four brides and their families! It is truly the best dining experience we have had on Maui. Being from the Big Island of Hawaii we are familiar with the original Merriman's at Waimea. The Maui restaurant is much larger and busier than the one here. The food was not quite as good. But, the service was outstanding and the ambience was more than romantic. I quess there is a price to be paid for fame. I still would recommend Merriman's to everyone going to Maui. The mixed plate had filet mignon that melted in your mouth, Ahi that was seared perfectly and Mahi-Mahi that was seasoned well and the sides with it were just as delicious. Extensive wine menu although on the expensive side. We brought our own wine and were charged $45.00 corkage, worth it since one bottle we brought with a different year was on their wine menu for $290.00! You cannot get a more beautiful setting, we had Lanai seating and it was just as breathtaking as the seating outside. We were seated at at nice outdoor table on the side of the restaurant away from the hustle and bustle. Our waiter Mike was what really made the difference though. He was very congenial, helpful but not intrusive and very respectful of our celebration. We had the pupu appetizer and forget what you think you know about that, because the Merriman's version is in a different league. The crispy Mahi Mahi for me and the special catch for my wife. Both were delicious, fresh and tastefully presented. The beautiful sunset view from our table was the crowning glory. The views are spectacular during sunset.This was one of our best dining experiences. The food was cooked to perfection, nothing was left on our plates. The service was fantastic and the wine list great. The ambiance that Merriman's has created is irreplaceable. Tables were booked for 7 pm because of sunset. I recommend reservation and we were seated on time. Great western view of ocean. Menu has many choices including fish and we especially liked that meals featured locally-produced food. The food was excellent - taste, serving size, combination of food choices, etc and was timely served. My wife has dietary restrictions and she was well-accommodated with substitutions. The service was outstanding with great cooperation and coordination among staff. I would have given 5 stars on food, except my meal was not very hot when served (is that really service?).

The place is relativly small so sitting back against the wall furthest from the ocean is still a better seat than at 95% of most places best seat.The food was fantastic. I had the pork belly with crab dumpling app with a ribeye steak,my wife had the special salad with the rorasted chicken. The ribeye was the best i have ever had. Better than Del Frisco, Homestead, Delmonicos, Craft Steak and others. Add to that a Maui sunset and you have a perfect meal.

Only tiny little ding was number of Menu items, but no worry there, my wife took the daily fressh fish special (Amberjack) and I took the Merriman's Mix. Awesome choices. Then, it was our 20th anniversary, and they surprised us with a (complimentary) wonderful, rich, flourless chocolate cake with a congratulations message written in Hawaiian. Dinne will set you back $100 to $150 per person (more if you really go for a big wine) but here's the surprise: it's really worth it. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. The service is warm, friendly, and professional. We enjoyed the outstanding, special shrimp appetizer. We moved on to the delicious kale salad and the incredible white bean soup. Our entree was the scallops that were abundant, beautiful, and delicious. We finished the meal with Malasadas (even better than my grandma's, but please don't tell her). They had half-bottles of wine which we loved because we were able to enjoy a perfect cocktail as well as some outstanding Kistler. Dining at Merriman's is like finding Heaven in Paradise! We were going to start with pre-dinner sunset cocktails outside at the Point bar but it was closed due to rain. We had drinks inside at the bar and still enjoyed the view! Our dining table was perfect for ocean views also! The Mai Tais with lilikoi foam are not to be missed!! We enjoyed the complimentary appetizer at tableside. Our entrees (Seared Ahi with wasabi & Sea scallops) were cooked to perfection and delicious! Thanks, also, to the Chef for the delicious birthday dessert for my husband..big enough to share! For us it is a special occasion restaurant where it is almost impossible to spend less than $100 per couple. However;it is worth every penny. Our server was warm and attentive and we enjoyed his detailed descriptions of select dishes.
