A word from Merrick Inn
Built before the Civil War and completely remodeled in 1936 by the Cal Milam family, the Merrick Inn served as the manor house for one of Lexington"s finest horse farms.

It was here at Merrick Place, that Milam and his groom, Mr. Johnson, trained the fabled "Exterminator", Kentucky Derby winner of 1918. Here also, "Tut Tut", Komuraski, Commodore, Brown Wisdom, Miss Joy, Milkmaid, McKee and Dust Flower started on their paths to fame and fortune. None of these, however, gained such widespread fame as Merrick himself. Merrick finished in the money 157 times, winning 62 races.

The Merrick Inn has been owned and operated by the Murray family for nearly 40 years. Offering the finest in traditional southern dining and innovative specials. Times have changed, but we believe the beauty and charm of our inn remain the same.

  • "The bar scene was very lively!!! Inside the building was old and over decorated. The food was well prepared, but the options were heavy and not very inovative."

  • "I do not usually rate a restaurant as highly as the Merrick Inn, but I have to make this exception. This was our second visit here, and it will remain on our Lexington restaurant list. Both times the experience was worth the visit. The service was terrific - very attentive. The backroom where we sat was quiet enough to carry on a normal conversation without feeling like the air was dead. They have a nice wine list. But the star what the food! I had the pork tenderloin - cooked to perfection and very tasty. My husband ordered the prime rib - absolutely done right and sized for a large appetite. The wedge sald was amazing, although the Green Goddess salad could have used a bit more dressing."

  • "This is an unusual place. Excellent food. Pricey, but worth it. Well trained waiters who know how to wield a tray and don't try to chat. White table cloth, well appointed with silver and glassware. I was surprised at the number of kids since they don't seem to have a kid's menu. A tradition in Lexington. Located in old mansion. Parking is a problem if you don't use their free valet service. I'll go any time I have the chance."

  • "Came to Lexington for the races. Having lived in Lexington a few years ago and bringing folks new to area with us, we chose the Merrick Inn to show them the best of Kentucky. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere, the service, and the food were all one could ask. Our friends were more than impressed. Until the next time..."

  • "Definitely our favorite Lexington restaurant. We have tried many different places in our many trips to town for Keeneland and this is consistently the best. Had their Prime Rib special and the food was top notch. The appetizers were great and we really liked the wine selection the wait staff picked for us. Our server was outstanding and actually remembered us from our fall trip to down. You won't be disappointed with dinner at Merrick!"

  • "This was the first time my wife and have ever been to the Merrick Inn, and went for our an 26th Anniversary "Treat", we have been wanting to go for along time because of all the good things we have heard over the years and we were not disappointed. Food was excellent and service was as well. I'm just disappointed we waited so long to go."

  • "What a great place. It came highly recommended and is a local favorite so how could you go wrong. Once an old horse farm to offers charm and excellent food. The Pecan crust Pork loin in bourbon chipotle butter was delectable. A must go to when you visit Lexington Ky"

  • "What a gem this restaurant is tucked away in Lexington just off of Tate's Creek, The service was great - the food was outstanding. The pecan crusted pork with a cream bourbon sauce and apple chutney almost melted in my mouth. Of course I tasted the salmon my husband ordered as well as the filet mignon (with a heavenly béarnaise sauce) my daughter ordered. The food was perfectly prepared and presented. The complimentary valet parking made me feel special as well. I can hardly wait for my next outing."

  • "Feel like family while dining in the home of former Lexington Legend named Merrick Wonderful food and even accommodated gluten free meal. Donna's pound cake was tender and delicious making a perfect ending to our pleasant. Cooked to order and brought at a comfortable pace. Enjoyed immensely and will return next time in Lexington!"

  • "Dinning out at the Merrick Inn is great for special occasions. The bill was a big chunk of the monthly budget but well worth the dollars spent. We both ordered the rib eye and wow was it delicious. We each ordered different sides, baked potato, soup, and broccoli casserole and all very tasty. Not to be forgotten was the oyster appetizer which was perfect. Dessert was a chocolate bread pudding, shared. We will definitely do it again and hopefully soon. The only drawback was the noise level in the room and honestly this was most likely beyond the control of the restaurant. Sadly another group in the room was loud to the point that all the other tables in the room were making comments among themselves but loud enough for us to hear."

  • "It has been several years since I have been to the Merrick Inn for dinner. I went about 6 years ago when I first moved to Lexington, but don't remember being that impressed with it for all the things I had heard. We just went back to celebrate my birthday and it was a fabulous experience, great food, perfect service, awesome wine, and just a wonderful night out."

  • "My husband and I were traveling and stopped at this restaurant. After a long drive this was a wonderful respite. Everything we ate was superior. Fried Green Tomatoes special was wonderful. My husband had the fried chicken was excellent. I had the special Chilean bassi it was as good or better of any entree I have had in the Washington Metro area. I think the locals have a real gem in Merrick Inn. I would be a regular if I lived in Lexington Ky. Our waitress Ashley was wonderful would request her each time."

  • "We are always looking for a different, unique place to try when we come to Lexington. Merrick's Inn was recommended to us by our daughter. I have to say it was one of the best meals we have ever had! We had our first dinner there last December on our 39th wedding anniversary and when we went back on 3/4 our meal was just as good. A MUST TRY!!"

  • "We had an excellent time at the Merrick Inn for our double birthday celebration. Three of us went. The service was great, timely, not intrusive, covered all the bases. The food was great too BUT I wouldn't go for the KC steak, it wasn't as tender as I hoped for the money. The eldest member of our party got the pork tenderloin with apple chutney, asparagus with hollandaise, and corn pudding and raved about her food. The hot brown was delicious. The sides to the KC steak were really good; corn pudding and balsamic baby beets. And the bread, yum.The only issue with the steak was that for $35, one would expect it to be more tender. The flavor was spot on great. All in all a great experience. If you go I recommend the grouper finger appetizer."

  • "We travel for work and like to sample local eateries, so though the price was a little on the high side, decided to give Merrick Inn a try as it was recommended by several people. Had that old time southern genteel feeling. (Mint Julep anyone?) Lovely cozy atmosphere in the dining room with low lighting level (but not so dark you can't see) and fireplace. Good staff and good food. Salad was just okay, but bread outstanding. Pecan crusted pork tenderloin in a sweet sauce with apples and raisins quite tasty. All vegetables well prepared. Would definitely come back again."

  • "We visited Merrick Inn for my husband's birthday. I noted that upon making the reservation and he was greeted and congratulated by several employees we encountered during our visit. Our waitress Leanne went out of her way to make the experience memorable. The food was unique and delicious (I had the almond crusted chicken). I can't say enough good about this place. We will certainly be back."

  • "On a recent business trip to Lexington we tried Merrick Inn, and were pleasantly surprised by how good it is. We are in the process of moving to the Lexington area and have been sampling lots of restaurants in the area and we now add this to our TOP list of great eateries which includes Dudley's on Short and Rodney's on Broadway (in Georgetown, KY). Great ambience in an older home-like setting --- great food and drink. Will definitely go back! Can't go wrong."

  • "Merrick Inn is an old house renovated as a restaurant with an upscale feel. Great service and menu options. Two local Lexington brews on tap (West 6th & Country Boy). We had two small children with us so we were a little worried how they would do. The server handled everything very well. Thanks!"

  • "My wife and I don't get the opportunity to have very many romantic dates, so I surprised her with a night out on the town. The service and food made us fall in love with the place, and they took care of us like we were family. The server was polite, smiled, and quick and the food was delicious. The appetizer special was the crab cakes, which were delicious and had more crab in them than I had expected, with a delicious pesto. I had the walleye pike, which was probably a three pound fish before it was butchered and fried, and was way more than one person could handle and cooked perfectly. My wife had the chardonnay chicken, which was very tasty. Special occasions will see us returning."

  • "We had a party of 7 adults. We met up in the bar, which was super cozy, found some great leather couches next to the wood burning fireplace - perfect match for some bourbon! Our table was ready as we requested, and service was efficient. My only note about that was the female server tried hard to smile and be pleasant and accommodating, but I had the feeling that she was covering too many tables. Food was excellent, hot to the table and well seasoned - no need for salt or pepper. Definitely recommend."

  • "We visited for our daughter's 21st bday. The restaurant was lovely. The bar area was very comfy with a big fireplace and leather couches. Our dining room was quaint and our server very good. Everyone loved their food but me. I had stuffed sole, and It did not have a whole lot of flavor, but it wasn't bad, just not great. Overall we loved it and would go back in a heart beat."

  • "My family had a lovely dinner. I felt as if I was being entertained in someone's home. Snowing outside and the beautiful wood fire roaring. One member of our party was gluten free. The chef was happy to accommodate. Ready to go back and maybe save room for dessert this time. Oh the Mojito was perfect!"
