A word from Merrick Inn
Built before the Civil War and completely remodeled in 1936 by the Cal Milam family, the Merrick Inn served as the manor house for one of Lexington"s finest horse farms.

It was here at Merrick Place, that Milam and his groom, Mr. Johnson, trained the fabled "Exterminator", Kentucky Derby winner of 1918. Here also, "Tut Tut", Komuraski, Commodore, Brown Wisdom, Miss Joy, Milkmaid, McKee and Dust Flower started on their paths to fame and fortune. None of these, however, gained such widespread fame as Merrick himself. Merrick finished in the money 157 times, winning 62 races.

The Merrick Inn has been owned and operated by the Murray family for nearly 40 years. Offering the finest in traditional southern dining and innovative specials. Times have changed, but we believe the beauty and charm of our inn remain the same.

My sister, two nieces and I went to the Merrick Inn for my birthday dinner on Nov. 22. (My sister and I had been there twice previously this year.) As was our experience in April and July, the food, service and ambiance were excellent. All four of us greatly enjoyed our dinner selections. The waiter was most helpful in answering our questions about specials and menu items. I greatly enjoyed my filet mignon with crabmeat topping. I know that we will return to the Merrick Inn in the new year.

On our trips south we always stop in Lexington and eat at the Merrick Inn. It is mainly frequented by locals, has a rich history, great food and a cozy feel. Their fried chicken is fabulous as is the corn pudding. It's hard to find but worth tracking down. Reservations are a must on weekends.

The menu at Merrick Inn advertises that their Filet Mignon is as ”Tender as a Mother’s Love”, and they're not lying! I've never had such a tender piece of steak. They wrap it in apple wood bacon and season it to perfection. It is, by far, my favorite steak anywhere on the planet. Our favorite server, Kristin, is knowledgeable, efficient, professional and FUN. She recommended a creamy cheese cake w/ a jalapeo-salt-caramel sauce topping and it was TO DIE FOR! The setting (like an old Kentucky estate tucked into a suburban development) is part of the charm of being in Lexington after an afternoon at the racetrack. Keeneland is magnificent in October, and dinner at Merrick Inn is the icing on the cake!

I told the host when we arrived that we had a 5th person, but that we would be happy to squeeze her into our 4 person table. He insisted he'd have a table available shortly for 5. He paged us shortly after to notify us that our table was ready, but after making our way thru the crowd waiting for seating, the host noted that he'd made a mistake and the table wasn't ready. After 45 minutes, the mgr sent a cheese plate to acknowledge the long wait. We were seated an hour after our reservation. While I understand that our change in number complicated things, it would have been nice to know how long the wait would be, so we could make other plans. That said, the fried chicken and the pork tenderloin were amazing! Will return to try more dishes.

We visited the Merrick Inn this past Saturday night. We are from out of town - so I just found it by googling it before I went and then made a reservation. We were very impressed with the atmosphere and food. This is a great place to go after the horse races and football games. The prices are reasonable and the service and food was fantastic! The outdoor space looks great - they had a fire going, but it was raining so no one was out there, but it looked very inviting.

Consistently the best meal in Lexington. Their dishes are well prepared and thought out. Really like their Prime Rib special. My wife got the pork tenderloin and liked the sauce but wasn't as crazy about the meat itself. A bit too done. This is still the best meal you can get in Lexington and we make it our go to restaurant for our Keeneland trips.

We always go to the Merrick Inn after a day at Keeneland Race Track. Always pleased with the food and service. It is good to have a reservation. I especially like that two side dishes are included with the entrée. I also enjoy the outside dining area. We were not fond of the bread pudding with chocolate chips. I would rather have traditional bread pudding.

Been visiting Lexington for the races for over 10 years and never made the Merrick a dining destination. My bad! When the food, service, and ambiance are outstanding, it is almost impossible to find anything bad about an establishment. Even the valet gentlemen were prompt and courteous. Our first visit but hopefully not our last. Planning on being in for the races in April and looking forward to another great dining experience at the Merrick.

My Oklahoma fiance had not yet had a real KY culinary experience, so our first stop was the Merrick Inn. It's classic Kentucky and a wonderful example of our culture's hospitality. Ordered the hot brown (of course), corn pudding and green beans. And to no self-respecting Kentuckian's surprise, he said "this is the best thing I've ever had in my life." Yes... my dear, welcome to the Bluegrass. Thanks for a wonderful evening and for the fantastic breakfast the next morning - the portions were sizable allowing for a delicious reheated treat the next day!
