Meritage - The RestaurantUnusual but brilliant formulaListing food by wine match seems bizarre at first, but is a great idea. Also we love letting the diner chose between app size and full size is brilliant. Of course none of this would matter without the great chef and service.... and location.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely wonderful! DeliciousAbsolutely wonderful! Delicious food, gracious service, gorgeous view.
Outstanding!!!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply, one of the best diningSimply, one of the best dining experiences we've had. Gorgeous environment and elegant, considerate service, all as a backdrop for the brilliant menu.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Experience A++I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. We were told about the tasting menu and because I know we both love wine we decided to give this a shot. They serve 5 - 2.5oz glasses of wine with each course. The server and Sommelier were both very knowledgeable about the wine and it was very interesting to hear about each one before the course was served. Because my girlfriend doesn't care for seafood and the first course was soft shell crab, the waiter said she could pick anything else on the menu so that was very satisfying to us. Not many places allow substitutions, let alone anything you want to replace it on the menu. We had a great experience and because their tasting menu changes very frequently we will be back.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Merits of MeritageOur dinner at Meritage was excellent in all respects. The menu is fairly broad and varied. A unique characteristic is that every offering is available as both a small or large plate. And each is paired with a suggested category of wine (from a particularly extensive upper-end list). Tip: the small plates tend to be generous, large plates less so, so consider ordering three small plates. You'll sample one more delicious offering and get more for your money. Make one the smoked salmon "pinwheels".
Well lit, the ambiance may be more elegant than romantic, but elegant it is, enhanced by views of Boston Harbor.
The service was truly professional, subtly omnipresent without being intrusive or smothering.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful anniversary dinnerWe found our way to Meritage for our 10th anniversary after a many year hiatus. It was all we had hoped and maybe more. The food was creative and well executed. A wide range of flavors was well served by the option of choosing multiple "small plates." We were happy to find that the small plates were actually reasonably substantial (very slightly larger than a tradiational appetizer). The wine list was both a high point and a low. It was a diverse list with many gems, and many true high end bottles, but amazingly few "value wines" under $60/bottle. While we chose a wonderful burgundy, it seemed a bit excessive to have to approach $100 for a good fit of wine to food. All that said, we could justify it with the beautiful view and meal.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were celebrating a birthdayWe were celebrating a birthday and the service, food and wine were exceptional.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food with a Great viewThe Meritage Restaurant in the Boston Harbor Hotel is a great restaurant for special occasions. We ate their last year and once again this year for our Anniversary. Choice of size plates of food: small plate = $17.00 or large plate = $34.00. Unfortunately with the small plate size you only receive one of the appetizers. To receive two of the appetizers you need to order a large plate.
The large plate entree came with 2 small servings of vegetables along with a starch: potatoes and the meat or fish choice.
The glass of Riesling was $14.00 a glass. Not an inexpensive place to eat, but the ambience and the harbor view are great!
Will be taking relatives to this restaurant for their Anniversary as our treat.!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and ServiceAs always food is great and service is some of the best in Boston. Staff knows how to take of you.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMMust go placeThis is one of the best restaurants in Boston. Far better than the ones who pay the raters to be ranked at the top.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMeritage Gilt City tasting menuA nice night out at the Rowes Wharf with a gilt city voucher for tasting menu with wine pairings. Nice service though not stellar, good food, and lovely view of harbor.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLove MeritageMeritage is consistantly fantastic...food...service...atmosphere5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful service, fantastic Views! The food was great too. Alot of varied choices on the menu - but the staff won in particular here. Matched with the view, the service was impeccable. We were there for a special occasion and dessert was complimentary on account of the occasion, which was only disclosed to the hostess while being seated. The offering of small and large plates was great to allow for you to try a variety of options from the menu, and the small plates could easily be confused for a full portion....and the food was fresh and delicious!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentWondeful experience. Great Service, great food. Were seated at the Wharf room for bruchwithwondeful harbour view.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I went to MeritageMy wife and I went to Meritage for the first time on her birthday a few weeks ago. The food was excellent, service was good and the view of the harbor was beautiful. The menu offered a wide variety of choices from seafood to steak. The cod loin with chorizo over spinach was incredible and my wife's swordfish over lobster and shrimp risotto was fabulous. I would highly recommend Meritage for special occasions or even just a date night. It is absolutely worth every penny. We will definitely be going back!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways an excellent experienceThis is one of my favorite Boston restaurants. Food and service are outstanding!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother terrific dinnera beautiful view of Boston harbor, a great bar, a nice window table, a creative menu that's available in its entirety as small or large plates, and wonderfully-prepared food. we've been here a few times and it's never disappointed. this time, our only comment is that the waiter pulled a disappearing act after dessert, and we waited half an hour for our check. but that's pretty minor compared to how superb everything else was. definitely worth the money.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu was fabulous. TheThe menu was fabulous. The choices were electic. The service was top shelf. The only drawback was that we found it a bit loud.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMPricey but you get a levelPricey but you get a level of service commensurate with the price. There was a large group there the night I went and they were obnoxiously loud. The noise in the restaurant carries throughout. It was tolerable but they may want to rethink large parties like that. The food was very good. They also do a nice job bringing you extras that you did not order. Such as a tasting of soup and cookies with coffee for dessert.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is outstanding. The food is outstanding. I love the small dishes and the ability to taste a variety of foods. Wine suggestions are excellent. Service was amazing! A wonderful evening! We were a group of 5 and everyone loved their meal. Thank-you! We will be back!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was fantastic! AndThe food was fantastic! And they even provided a full moon - I will give them credit for that.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA really great restaurantA really great restaurant - the same one that has those fabulous wine tasting dinners, with the same great chef - then why is it never crowded ?
The food at either half of full portion, is varied and really really good. The six of us had at least 12 - 14 different courses and all were good to excellent. Service was also very good and the view was of Boston waterfront. The only negative I could think of is possibly the Very high wine
Prices, but even that could be avoided by ordering by the glass! We will be back again!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent. Delicious meal.Excellent. Delicious meal. I especially liked that I was able to order a half glass of wine instead of afull one for my second wine.
Service was very attentive and personal. They prepared some things especially for my husband who needs to be gluten free.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent place! Elegant,Excellent place!
Elegant, charm and great plates. We are spaniards and always try to discover a new place for dinner. I have to say Maritage is one of the best restaurants I´d met in USA...an Europe, and we travel a lot!
Congratulations!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMMeritage was as advertised,Meritage was as advertised, a restaurant based on food and wine pairings. Small plates allowed us to sample 3 dishes each and pair with differing wines. The somalier was very approachable and helpful and made great suggestions for pairing with our food choices. The food was fantastic with great, unhurried service and a wonderful view of Boston harbor. Highly recommended.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Hotel RestaurantMy wife and I had dinner at Meritage. I liked the idea of the small plates, as we were able to order 6 different items off the menu and share them all. The presentation is quite nice and the food was good to excellent. We had a window table so the view was very pleasant. The restaurant is nice but it is in a hotel and it has somewhat of a hotel restaurant feel. It is quiet, even with a fair amount of people in the restaurant. This is great if you like being able to talk with companions but again, it misses the 'buzzy' atmosphere of a restaurant like Cinquecento, which is at the other end of the spectrum. Overall it was a very good experience.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for quiet gormet diningI checked a number of places to have dinner with my wife and old Navy buddy from the S.F. bay area. Wanted a place that was quiet and with a view of the harbor. Meritage fit the bill.
Food and service were excellent. The only minor issue was that the halibut was a little overcooked so it was a little dry. The mushrooms that came with the halibut made up for that. The venison & pheasant were great and my wife raved about the diver scallops. Desserts and coffee were great as well. Super wine list, but a bit pricey. Small plates are best for first timers.
If you're new to Boston or don't get into the city very often, the BHH valet parking is the way to go.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA very enjoyable and relaxedA very enjoyable and relaxed Easter Sunday brunch accompanied by soft live jazz. Of course, Meritage overlooking the harbour on a gorgeous, sunny, Spring day certainly helped. The food was good with a nice, well rounded variety. Can't comment on the wine list as we stayed with Champagne and Mimosas. All of the wait staff - from the bar in the waiting area just outside the restaurant, those milling around and those at the tables - were wonderful. Definitely recommended.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMService i good. The food isService i good. The food is good to very good. The view is outstanding.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI have visited many restaurantsI have visited many restaurants during Restaurant Week in the past and this is probably one of the best. Although the portions were small, the food was delicious! Everything from the three types of bread for each person to the tasting plates for dessert clearly showed the restaurant's attention to detail and the chef's commitment to quality. Lastly, the beautiful waterfront view and validated parking were a plus!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI dined here on ThanksgivingI dined here on Thanksgiving and was quite impressed. Upon my second visit, I was slightly less impressed, but still enjoyed the meal immensely. The sommelier changed, but the wine list was still impressive. I brought my girlfriend for restaurant week. Several of the menu offerings were identical to the ones I had for the Thanksgiving meal, which was slightly surprising. Overall a lovely meal.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBenjamin was our waiter...heBenjamin was our waiter...he was very responsive, efficient and polite. The food was great and wine pairing offered was a treat...perfect selection of wines. Will definitely return and suggest to my friends3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, excellent dessertGreat food, excellent dessert and nice view of the Boston Harbor.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMeritage continues to be oneMeritage continues to be one of the loveliest places to dine: the food is excellent, the service impecable, and the setting attractive. You feel beautifully cared for without being fawned over. The menu (this was restaurant week) was varied and each dish was interesting and well prepared. I am never disappointed when we go to Meritage!3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed our meal very much.We enjoyed our meal very much. Service was excellent. The menu offered wonderful options. We would definitely return.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Restaurant Week Menu & WineWent during Restaurant Week. Requested to sit by window & was accommadated within 15 minutes. Spectacular view of Boston Harbor. Wonderful 3 course-menu prepared expertly. Opted or the wine pairing at add'l $18. Well-worth it. Service was excellent without being intrusive. The food & wine selections here are wonderful and this is definitely a spot for a romantic dinner, special occasion or food & wine enthusiasts. Will definitely be back.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first trip toThis was my first trip to Meritage. I went during restaurant week when I try to get out and try someplace that is new to me. Meritage impressed with an excellent menu as well as suggested wine pairings for each course. I had the swordfish with lobster and lemon risotto. The flavors were light, clean and distinctive. I will find reasons to return. I have sometimes been disappointed by the way in which restaurants treat restaurant week but Meritage made it an excellent visit; it is easy to see why they have such a good reputation.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I had an amazingMy husband and I had an amazing dinner here. The restaurant is modern and bright. We were seated at a large window overlooking the water and harbor. The food was excellent and our server was so helpful with our drink selection, making recommendations based upon my likes/dislikes. I had the braised short ribs and my husband had the filet. Both were very good. We can't wait to return again!3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable MeritageMeritage was superb! We had the restaurant week menu and the three courses were still paired with three perfect wine courses. They even changed one of the wine specials to better suit the main course of one guest. We had three different choices and there was not one that was not delightful. The service was notable, discreet yet attentive. It is also hard to beat a nice Boston Harbor view, even in winter.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was not outstanding enough.Food was not outstanding enough. Very much enjoyed the mushroom soup appetizer and chocolate dessert but underwhelmed by the steak. Beautiful setting and location and the staff was very nice.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery year I want to visitEvery year I want to visit during restaurant week and I finally made my reservations early enough this time! And you know it was worth it when over a week later, there is a dish you are still thinking about - the butternut squash pasta dumplings. The filet also recived rave reviews for it's melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness. Conversly, the swordfish was nothing special and slightly underdone for my taste. Entrees were also served just warm, not remotely near hot. Dessert was good, but more about presentation than taste.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrific as usualAs usual Meritage doesn't disappoint. This was the first time I have been to Meritage for restaurant week and was delighted by the quality, presentation and choice. There were four great choices in each category. They even had a "wine flight" (extra cost) of three wines to go with the different choices on the menu. Service was perfect. Meritage is is my favorite restaurant in Boston and from now on, my favorite restaurant for restaurant week as well.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic wine list. TheFantastic wine list. The service was tremendous. Nice view of the harbor. The filet was cooked perfect and the sauce was fantastic. I really enjoyed the cheese plate for desert which had aged vermont cheddar with a granny smith apple compote. Very well thought out. Highly recommend.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a beautiful view ofWe had a beautiful view of the harbor from our table. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable about wine pairing. We had the three-course Restaurant Week dinner with one wine pairing and a glass of the wine list. Wine list is extensive, but not all wines are available by the glass. The waiter helped me picked a white and let me taste it. No problem exchanging it for another recommendation after I did not like my original pick. The food looked and tasted beautiful! A real treat!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMCame here for restaurant weekCame here for restaurant week and found the food to be delicious! The service was great, and view gorgeous.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious but priceyMy daughter and I celebrated her birthday looking for a quiet, relaxing experience. Meritage did not disappoint. We spent some time looking over the extensive wine list and ordered a modestly priced California merlot. Meritage has a great wine list although many of the bottles come at a premium. The five course tasting menu sounded terrific but we felt as though it would be too much food so we each opted for one small plate and one large plate. The portions were more than adequate. My small plate was a swordfish on lobster risotto--excellent--and my daughter ordered the crab cake which was also excellent. I had the Colorado lamb sirloin which was also very good and my daughter had a veal dish which was delicious as well.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been looking forwardI have been looking forward to this reservation for a while. We choose to go with the 5 course dinner ($125 each, paired with different wine glasses per plate). I loved all the courses but the meat dish. The sirloin was dried, I was dissapointed. On the other hand, the wines were fantastic and the waiter was excellent.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best in BostonI've had the pleasure of dining at Meritage three times now. Each time has been fantastic. The food, the service, the view -- all very special. Our waiter on this most recent occasion remembered me from the last time I had dined there -- a year past -- and even recalled the styles of wine I preferred. That's attention to detail.
Self parking in the Boston Harbor Hotel garage, just below the restaurant, is free with validation. On a snowy night, I went from my home to the restaurant without even donning a jacket!3/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBeen there many times. OnBeen there many times. On New Year's Eve, even at this level, one doesn't expect a fantastic meal, but the 4 course dinner with many fine options was really fantastic. We thought the 7 PM reservation would have given us a bit of breathing room for the crowds, but it was busy from beginning to end. The service was slow to get started, but up to standard once we got our wine selection. The portions were perfect and everything was cooked as ordered. Extremely well done and a pleasant evening for the three of us.
Great Job!12/31/2012 12:00:00 AMHad a great time. Food wasHad a great time. Food was amazing!! Can't wait to go here outdoor style in the summer.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
