  • "Visiting Boston for a weekend getaway with some friends and were looking for a dining experience by he waterfront. Meritage is beautiful and has an incredible view of the harbour. Service was great along with some amazing seafood. Try the soft shell crab as an appy. In all a great experience."

  • "My wife and I went to Meritage to celebrate her Birthday. The food was really good but portions are small. Prices were good but not a great value because of portion size. Our server was nice but not super attentive. We finished our meal and dessert when he brought us the remainder of our wine that was left in the bottle. Having the wine bucket closer would have avoided this problem. Seemed like a rookie mistake. Overall great food with a nice view of the active waterfront."

  • "Although there were few customers for brunch in this second floor dining room with a view of Boston Harbor, that did not mean an inferior restaurant. Quite the contrary! The $35 prix fixe menu offered many choices - we two tried: perfect Malpeque oysters, delicious gazpacho; followed by juicy medium rare steak and just right scrambled eggs, and a small casserole filled with tender lobster in a winy sauce with garnish of fresh peas and red peppers; dessert: two bites of key lime with raspberries; or a smooth panna cotta - all wonderfully tasty and sized just right. Wines (chablis and burgundy) were a perfect extra. Service outstanding; knowledgeable, available but not intrusive. We would eat there every weekend if we lived nearby!"

  • "I love that all dishes are available in small portions which allows for tasting different wonderful combinations. Everything was great."

  • "Unique and delicious dining concept. Staff was amazing, only topped by the exquisite food and presentation. Great view as well, will definitely go back when I return to Boston. Worth the $$$"

  • "Fresh, quality ingredients and the knowledge of Daniel Bruce make this a great place to tempt the palate. One of the best deals around for a nice piece of filet with sides. The entire menu can be made into large plates or small plates depending on your appetite or desire to try different things. I do recommend selecting your wine specifically since the waiter will serve the most expensive version, which is a bit tacky."

  • "We we treated like we were the only ones in the hotel it was outstanding. We were Royalty for three nights."

  • "We went here for brunch and the service and food were simply excellent."

  • "Impeccable service and views of the Boston Harbor. The obvious pride in presentation was lovely but, the exquisite detail of flavors was unexpected. For example, mushrooms are too often dismissed as adornment in dishes but, not with this chef. Each seemed to be individually selected and strategically used to perfection. This chef is a true master. I was amazed at each course. Often I find you have to sacrifice your palate a bit to enjoy a restaurant's view ...not here! I would dine in a cellar if it meant enjoying this chef's cuisine. And my waiter, hostess, back waiters and sommelier were unbelievably sharp, and elegant while remaining warm and engaging. This is the prototype of how a dining experience should be."

  • "What a special treat on my Birthday? Everything was perfect. You should know I formerly worked as a Night Duty Manager for a large Hotel. Five star performance from the Matre D' to the other staff did a superb job. The ambience was five star. The food and wine is superb. The bathroom was polished. The dessert was classic. I ordered "white chocolate" which was fantastic. Chef Bruce did not disappoint me; the food was a "creation" very delectable to the palate."

  • "We could not have picked a better place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food, wine, and service was phenomenal and we were never rushed. We chatted and took our time to enjoy the fantastic food and wine (not to mention the beautiful waterfront view). As we ordered dessert and espresso, we watched the sailboats make their way back in as the sun set and casablanca started playing on the projector that the Boston Harbor Hotel has set up outside during the summer. Our night was perfect."

  • "Excellent for a quiet night of fine dining. No more expensive then any other restaurant. Servings are a little smaller but outstanding quality."

  • "Had an amazing 10th wedding anniversary dinner at Meritage. Wine Director helped me, Pastry Chef made a special dessert and Chef Bruce came out and said hello. The view is stunning!"

  • "Even on an overcast showery evening, the location right on the harbor is great to watch boats and the bustle of activity there. Service was impeccable, from the greeter who handled our coats and umbrellas to our server who paid just the right amount of attention to us. The food missed though. My wife ordered the filet and talked with the server about how to cook it so that it would be at most pink, not red. How an experienced restaurant (that wasn't busy) gets this wrong, I don't know, but the center of the steak was very rare. I had the tuna, a beautiful tender square cut, which was cooked perfectly, but flavorless. This is a sweet location, the service was excellent, but I expected more from the food. "

  • "I took my husband here for a 70th birthday celebration, and the experience was delightful in every way: a gorgeous view of the harbor; delicious food, elegantly served; friendly, attentive staff; and free parking, so that we could take a lovely stroll along the waterfront after dining. Also, knowing that it was a special occasion, the kitchen sent out an extra dessert treat. We will return!"

  • "Lovely restaurant with great views and service. If you want a table by the window, go early. Even if you request it, it cannot be honored. People linger here, so you get whatever table is available when you get there. The food is very trendy, and very gourmet. Too rich for our palates, even though we are fans of Le Cirque, for example. Desserts are exquisite. The menu is paired by wines, from light food, to more richer entrees, although everything was rich to us! "

  • "We had a very pleasant meal at Meritage. The view is wonderful, the restaurant elegant, the wine list extensive with some reasonable wines along with the high fliers. Despite all these admirable qualities, the food is not quite up to the high prices. $19 for a salad? Pretty, nice dressing but $19. Entrees a little too heavy. My wife's filet overcooked. The search goes on to find a really good meal in Boston despite all the restaurants."

  • "Have had consistently fine food and service here over the years and the most recent experience continued in that tradition. We had the five-course tasting menu with wines and enjoyed each course. We appreciated the harbor view from our table next to the window."

  • "Meritage has a great selection of food and matching wine. The food selections seem to get better and better with everything on the excellent scale. Wines however are a BIT expensive and is probably what turns customers off from this Excellent restaurant. Food portions at $19 for half portions and $34 for full portions are reasonable for a restaurant of this caliber. And the choices are so tempting most select 2-3 of the half portions to get a better sample of the fine menu choices. Service is top notch and they will help with wine selections if you need help. "

  • "Our group thoroughly enjoyed the Meritage experience! The food was excellent and the staff was even better! Highly recommend this location!"

  • "Nice variety! Too few omelet options for my liking. The desserts were nice but I had expected a grand array of over the top selections. What they served was good but less than one might anticipate given the steep price."

  • "The Atlantic room at the Boston Harbor Hotel is superb. Elegant views of the Harbor pan the whole restaurant. Chef Daniel Bruce has consistently put forth an amazing celebration of culinary talent to honor Mothers on this special day. There was not one item on this spectacular buffet that didn't warrant a taste. Excellent Brunch!!!"

  • "We celebrated Mothers Day here this year and last. We will not return next year. The brunch this year had fewer offerings, was less spectacular. For the price, we expected spectacular! We found the dessert section to be particularly disappointing, in fact neither my husband nor I had any option that was appealing; last year there were several options that we wanted to treat ourselves with. The staff was polite, but did not attend to little things. For example, they brought me my requested pot of tea, but. I had no teacup."

  • "Wanted to set up a very romantic night for my girlfriend. Miritage is definitely a great place to visit. It was so beautiful. The food was amazing, we had smoked salmon, duck and the filet. The service was the best I've ever seen. Again an amazing place"

  • "We celebrated Mother's Day early (last Fri. night) at Meritage, which is this mother's favorite restaurant. My husband, 2 adult children, and I each ordered 3 small plates: fried skate, scallops, foie gras, halibut, duck, and flank steak. All but the duck were excellent; the duck was a little tough and not very flavorful. The desserts were interesting and complex: strawberry mousse tart, citron cake, and chocolate fondant, which was the best. As usual, the service from our favorite waiter, Jean, was outstanding. The wines he recommended were excellent, and not overly expensive. All in all, it was a wonderful meal. "

  • "We had a lovely evening. Bartender made great drinks. Tables overlooked the harbor adding to the ambience. The foods and presentation were exceptional! Menu offered many options with a few unusual twists for the daring...one was my husband. We were catered to and never rushed. We had a beautiful dining experience!"

  • "Place beautiful, food excellent however it took 45 minutes to arrive and when I said to the manager we had been waiting for a whole she said she was "aware". That's it. No apology- nothing. We spent a considerable amount of money at this restaurant and was appalled at the comment and lack of attention. Waiter tried to help but still nothing for almost an hour. I has read great reviews about the food and overall ambience but was floored at the horrible service."

  • "Wait staff and manager are charming and professional. Service was leisurely, but we were a group of six that clearly were immersed in conversation so perhaps they were trying to be thoughtful. The food presentation was exquisite and creative. The squash blossom dish and the tuna were outstanding . Portions were appropriate for a tasting menu, we asked for "small plates". Love that they brought out an amuse bouche and petit fours , nice touch. Also served us complimentary champagne . We had a lovely , inter generational evening."

  • "Amazing experience for a foodie. I never tire of a tasting menu. I love a chance to sample all of the chefs favorites to prepare. Everything was spot on. One of the best crab cakes I've ever experienced. Swordfish with lemon scented lobster risotto was spectacular. Don't miss dessert. Chocolate done perfectly. "

  • "Meritage is one of my very favorite restaurants in Boston. The menu is engaging and fabulous, the wine list is unmatched and the service outshines both. "

  • "From start to finish, our dining experience was exceptional. Our server Jeronimo was very friendly, knowledgeable, The wine captain was constantly walking around asking people if they needed help pairing their food with wine. My dinner was done just the way I had asked as was my wife's. I really liked the way the menu is set up small or large portions at a fixed price. More restaurants should try this !"

  • "Brunch is a 3 course meal and you are discouraged from just getting one or two of the courses since they charge you more and no longer include your coffee for free (which is weird in my opinion). It is expensive--$36. The food is tasty but there isn't a lot of it--the men in our group could have used more food. The view was outstanding. There were 3 different people who kept asking us how things were which in my opinion is 2 people too many."

  • "I've written about this restaurant before. As usual, the food was spectacular as was the entire experience. For this restaurant, this is now a standard expectation for me having been there nearly a dozen times. What surprised me this time is this was the first time I brought my son. He recently turned 3 years old. I did not know they had a kids menu but they do! The food for my son was great (he got the pizza...the crust was grilled...it was really good and he loved it). When he first got his orange juice, he accidentally spilled some on himself and the tablecloth. The server was so kind to him, cleaned up the table AND his hands. Made him feel better and saved the evening - well above and beyond my expectations. Wonderful."

  • "Several friends enjoyed another scruptious meal at Meritage! For the first time (in many dinners here) I found the service only acceptable--not the usual crisp, attentive experience I have always appreciated. It was a busy night, but the wait for courses was longer than usual and, when plates were delivered the ever changing waitstaff was not aware of who ordered what plate. It seemed so busy that the Sommelier was delivering meals to diners---certainly an acknowledged sign of need to step up service and much appreciated! As always, the dining experience was very enjoyable overall and, as always, the food was exquisitely prepared. Just a small glitch in the usual spot on service. Plan to return soon!"

  • "Great for date night. If you like sancerre with your salad, chardonnay with your chicken and meritage with your mignon, this is the place for you. The small plate option lets you create your own tasting menu and the wines by the glass menu is big enough for satisfying pairings. My only complaint was the service timings were off--the new wine should be poured just before the next course comes out. I will be going back again with some foody friends"
