My wife and I went there for a special night. We had the fall tasting menu, and added a couple appetizers and drinks. Every single part of the meal was spectacular. The ambience was great, it's a very cozy place that is fit for a romantic meal. They happily accommodated a small special request I had - something other places in the city have failed to do. The plates are proper sizes for what they are, we were neither stuffed to the brim nor wishing for more after our meals. Prices are spectacular for the city. The wine list was extensive and included some options my wife had never heard of - and that's saying quite a bit. The mixed drink I got was unique and fresh. We will definitely be back to try more, almost everything on the menu looked delicious. Would absolutely recommend this to a couple or a small, intimate business group looking for a quiet, comfortable place to talk over high-quality food.

This is an excellent restaurant with a lot of ambiance. The staff were polite and service-oriented, and the food was excellent. We had a large group and everyone enjoyed the dinner, the wine, and the service. In addition, Meritage was tucked into a neighborhood setting, which made the experience even more exceptional. Our group had very mixed food tastes, and the menu accommodated everyone- from fish lovers, to meet lovers, to vegetarians.

This was our 2nd time dining at Heritage. My husband and I had a lovely meal and the food was well prepared. My only complaint was that the waiter misled me a bit about the preparation of one of some of the food and drink. he claimed that the soup was not "rich" and yet I could taste the cream which I had specifically asked about. Also told me that one of the cocktails was not very sweet and it was the most syrupy drink I've had in a long time. Next time, I'll trust the descriptions rather than relying on the staff.

My wife and I just moved into the city about a 1/2 block from Meritage. It was our wedding anniversary amidst all the move-in chaos and we were going to postpone our anniversary celebration, but we decided we needed to do it on that day. So we picked a romantic looking neighborhood restaurant. We were wonderfully surprised! The food is amazing, everything was perfect. The service was great, and friendly. They even gave us a surprise anniversary dessert! We'd drive into the city form the burbs to go to Meritage - but now we live only steps away. We'll be regular visitors there!

This is one of great small restaurants in the city. It has everything the "Rittenhouse Square" scene wishes it had: tasteful, subdued elegance, an exciting, upscale menu, great wine list, owners who know you and appreciate your visit, impeccable service. • Beef Bourguignon?
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007VIP

Both of my dining partners enjoyed their meals, but not me. Do not ever order the Beef Bourguignon. It tasted like beef broth poured over morsels of 4 tiny pieces of meat, onions, carrots and potatoes. The beef broth was not even flavorful, very light tan in color and definitely no hint of full-bodied red wine or seasonings. It's was the worst attempt at making this dish I've ever experienced. Very disappointing! Service, not! The waiter took our order then returned to table five minutes after taking the order to restate our order to make sure he had it correctly. We shared that we had theatre tickets and it fell on deaf ears.

I tried Meritage for the first time on a friday night during restaurant week. -Yummy, satisying food (fois gras ravioli and porkchop w/ kale) -disappointing dessert (chocolate pot o creme) -the tables were EXTREMELY close together, and dining room we sat in was too loud to hold a conversation comfortably- my friend and I had to repeat ourselves to each other constantly. Our table was also in a very awkward corner of the room. -In addition, my friend and I both noticed that while our server addressed her (caucasian) in a very friendly way- the tone toward me (black) was quite different. No obvious distain was detected- I simply felt like an afterthought and it was perceptible to both of us. That, coupled with our table placement....:(

The food was divine, the service was top-notch and friendly, and the menu was full of dishes I would like to try...which means I WILL be back! Do yourself a favor and order the bread pudding for dessert; seriously, it's the best I have had in my life.

We went to Meritage for restaurant week. It's local to us , but we don't eat there often. The portions had seemed small and the food too precious. We were very pleased on this visit to see diverse and interesting offerings that were delicious and more substantial ! The calamari appetizer and the beet and goat cheese appetizer were great . The entree salmon was perfectly prepared and served with delicious sides. Dessert was heavenly - a peanut butter ganache and a bread pudding were our choices. The wait staff was friendly and professional . We will be back !

My husband & I walked to Meritage for a spur of the moment al fresco dinner on a beautiful evening. Service was attentive but unobtrusive. Food was excellent, especially the Foie Gras Dumplings, Pan Seared Salmon with gnocchi Parisienne & Brown Sugar Bread Pudding with Salted Caramel gelato. Nice wine list & selection of craft beers & seasonal cocktails. Fortunate to have this neighborhood gem within walking distance of our home.

We had reservations at 5:30 when the noise level was "conversational". Unfortunately, as the restaurant filled up there were several tables at which diners were speaking in elevated tones which made the last part of the experience less pleasant. The food was fabulous! The service was terrific. We will definitely return in hopes that the noisemakers will not.

We four had at best a mixed experience. Two friends who ordered the lamb rib special were hugely disappointed--it was extremely fatty and they were hungry afterwards. My husband, who had the tasting menu, fared better and enjoyed fois gras ravioli and Amish chicken. I very much enjoyed appetizers of watermelon/cucumber and beets; my entrée salmon was fine, a bit boring and nothing special. Bread pudding dessert was yummy. Our server started off sweetly enough, but made several errors and then after our dinner plates were cleared, we sat for 20 minutes before finally I asked the busboy to find our disappeared server. I love the idea of neighborhood venues, but there is too much competition in town to need to go back. It was also noisy

Three of us dined at Meritage prior to attending a show. Loved the atmosphere. It was quiet since we were early. Food was good. I had the pork chop, while others had the scallops. Everyone enjoyed the meal but didn't think it was off the charts. BUT the dessert, a delicious bread pudding was devoured within seconds! Service was good, very attentive. Would try again but there are so many spots to try.

Absolutely delicious meal at Meritage on Saturday night (8/23). As my husband said, "there was not a bad bite of food"---everything was so flavorful. I had the Pork Loin over mashed sweet potatoes and fresh sweet corn on the cob. The pork was excellent. Service was spectacular as well. We shared a cheese platter (complete with green olives) and a small plate pork pasta dish. The pasta dish had so much shredded pork and in my opinion it was not a small plate. We were not rushed at the end of our meal and were able to unwind and enjoy our time together savoring our wonderful meal. A colleague recommended it and we were not disappointed.

Meritage is a gem in the Center City restaurant world, just a short walk from Rittenhouse Square and so well worth the escape from the madness the square has become. The food is elegant, and fairly priced, the service is impeccable yet not invasive, the bar is beautifully appointed and stocked. This is a rare restaurant, managed and owned by two wonderful professionals who always remember your name, your favorite table, and are appreciative of your visit. A must visit.

We have dined at this establishment for many years and recommended it as a neighborhood gem. We dined there several Saturdays ago and was shocked by the food and the service. The dishes served had little to do with the menu description: poorly prepared and bizarre in taste. And it took 45 minutes from the appetizer to the entree. Afterwards, we were told that the former chef (Ann Cole) was replaced. Wish we knew that before we wasted our time and money
