  • "We passed by a few times while walking and decided to try it for my kids Anniversary. The staff was great, our food was delicious. My husband and I had the salmon, it was perfect. We had gorgeous views. Everyone loved Merchants River House! We had our 10 month old granddaughter with us and she was treated so nice by the staff. We will be back soon!!!!"

  • "Wonderful ambiance, incredible close up views of the water, boat traffic and Statue. Food was good, service not rushed. We brought friends from out of town and stayed quite a few hours. There was never the feeling that we were sitting too long. Of course, we came for a late launch so eventually the place emptied out, yet still we felt welcome. Food is standard menu but well done and very friendly service. Noise level when full is pretty intense. Will definitely come again. Open Table - the restaurant did not have our reservation! Was not a problem. We showed the confirmation, they acknowledged it, did not have the reservation and we were seated at a great table anyway."

  • "Food is pricey for what you get. Service is slow but friendly. View is spectacular. Access is difficult- and no signs or maps to find place- is tucked behind buildings with no direct street access - have to walk in. Handicap accessible form only one side- not labeled. Bathrooms need to be better managed and serviced."

  • "I had family coming in from CO so I was looking for a place that would show off NYC beautiful view - Merchants River House nailed it! View was spectacular and the food was ok, basically what I had expected from reading the other reviews. The service was the worst part of the whole meal, with no fault to our server, he was just set up for failure. First, they didn't have enough wine glasses so they gave us champagne flutes - fine, whatever, at least we got wine. The creamer for coffee came out in a glass cup, so it was near impossible to pour into our coffee. And it did take a while for us to get a second bottle. Overall, nice place to go with friends, but if you're trying to impress someone, I would recommend coming only for dessert."

  • "I usually don't like to write negative reviews as I am in the business but oh boy. they lucky they have a good location. food was terrible. 27 dollars for a lobster salad sandwich that was in a dry hot dog bun. they brought al the courses together appetizers and main courses. one main course they forgot to bring. had to send back chicken salad was so dry. the waitress Lauren tried to do the best she can but she was alone and tables started to be full. nobody came back to offer dessert or bring check, had to get up and go to cashier just to pay. very unorganized, they were cleaning with smelly chemicals right when we were eating, it was wet floor and waitress even fall with food in hand. terrible experience."

  • "Beautiful restaurant on the Hudson River. Our reservation was honored right away The food was very good. My husband had salmon and it was not fully cooked and he couldn't eat part of it. It is in a remote part of the city and I'm not sure if we would return. If I lived in the neighborhood I would return. I wish this place to do well."

  • "Wonderful ambianse and a hidden gem. Food is very good, but be aware portions on kind of small. There is something on the menu for everyone."

  • "Food was the same flavor and quality as usual good but not great. View of the harbor and Jersey City was as usual. Service was same quality as usual, good but not great. Everything is ok, ambiance is what keeps me coming."

  • "The location, right on the Hudson River, can't be beat! The food was just OK and the service was spotty. The food came out WAY too fast. It's hard to explain how this is a bad thing, but we felt very rushed through the entire meal."

  • "Upon arrival at the restaurant, we requested to be seated outdoors. They were very ungracious in seating us, making us feel as we were asking too much. As it turns out, the two other tables around us were empty the entire time we were there, so clearly this was not an availability issue. The view was spectacular on the river at sunset. However, that was all we got. My soup was lukewarm and the salad greens were pale and looked old. The other entrees at the table were subpar at best. As a mixed blessing, I never even received my entrée. When paying the bill, I wanted to confirm I would not be charged for the missing entrée. The server seemed unfazed by their error, but did not charge me. We will never return to this restaurant!"

  • "Enjoyed sunset dinner on the Hudson at Merchants River House while visting NYC. The food was very good, not gourmet, but very satisfying. Like your dependable neighborhood cafe. The staff was outstanding - upbeat, positive attitude, willing to talk to and work with you on ordering exactly what you need. The sightseeing is terrific with the passing parade of people along the esplanade. Hard to go wrong with MRH."

  • "We went here for our mom's birthday and had a great time. Decent dinner menu, nothing spectacular in the ways of interesting flavors but not bad either. The dumpling appetizer was great! Go for the view of the sunset on the river and the ambience of Battery Park. It's great for casual dinner and a walk along the waterfront afterwards. Great dinner date option."

  • "We are in the city fairly often and decided to visit this place for brunch. Everything was pretty stellar. Food and views were great. The service, however, was FANTASTIC. Our waitress was truly amazing (I think her name was Lena). She was attentive (but not too much), very pleasant, knew the menu well, and was always smiling and professional. This was especially important since we had 4 hungry kids. We never felt rushed or ignored. Looking forward to our next visit."

  • "They were out of most beer and some wine - they said that they had had a busy week. The servers were friendly and apologetic. We finally decided to leave when our burgers didn't come after 45 min."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "The restaurant definitely has great views of the Hudson. Food was good and well done. Service was a disappointment and ignored for a good half hour due to a large outdoor party. They need to hire more staff to handle private parties and still service other customers."

  • "recently went to lunch at the Merchants River House and it was a nice experience. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable on menu. One of my pet peaves is waiting for water this did NOT happen at this establishment so I was happy. Most of the people at the table enjoyed the food. The view was great."

  • "It's one of my favorite restaurants in the area because of the view and its relaxing. Food is good, burgers are great. It's just the service that I hope gets better someday. On this last visit I brought a friend that was in town. It took 10 minutes to be acknowledged and after we ordered we never saw the server again until it was time to bring the check. What a shame because the bill would have been higher with a lot more drinks if anyone had asked us if we wanted another."

  • "Found this great spot after looking for a place to eat outdoors in NYC with a view. The view is spectacular of the Statue of Liberty and right on the Hudson River. The service and the food were jus as good as the views. Ordered Mac n Cheese awesome!, Mussels and the Buffalo wings, which we're excellent as well. For my dinner I got the Flat iron Steak which was very good and my daughter got the Lobster Ravioli which was out of this world. Got some desserts as well, the Red Velvet cake was outstanding, but that goes without saying. I would recommend this place highly to anybody looking for a great experience with terrific veiws!"

  • "We dined here after a long morning spent at the 9/11 Museum and we were glad we did. Overlooking the Hudson and the Statue of Liberty, the outdoor dining setting was a perfect antidote for an emotional morning. The food was good lunch food, prepared as requested, and fulfilled our expectations--- nothing fancy or special but perfectly acceptable. Service, however, as others have noted, was slow--- even though there seemed to be plenty of waitstaff on hand. It took 3 requests and 20 minutes to get the check for example. But we would go again. If they could improve their service, this place could be a true gem."

  • "Food was good, service was slow due to understaffing. Lots of people just having drinks made it too noisy for us, too much of a bar atmosphere."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "The services was terrible. We can't find our waitress at all. She didn't check in on us until we finish eating. We asked for some lemon, she gave us two small piece on a napkin. I just look disgusting."

  • "We had a wonderful lunch at the Merchants River House on a beautiful sunny Saturday. The Lady Liberty lemonade was a delicious cocktail, and the burgers and shrimp wrap were excellent. It couldn't have been more pleasant - the ambiance of the riverside dining is hard to beat! We will definitely visit again."

  • "The food was decent but the service was beyond horrible. Despite the reviews that I read, I decided to choose the restaurant, risking a lack of service for the view. I kid you not, we were not even offered water at any point throughout the meal. My girlfriend and I each had two drinks and the initial bill reflected three each. I thought perhaps it was an oversight by the waitress/bartender but the table directly behind us had the same issue. It took over an hour and a half to have an appetizer and our meal, including the fifteen minutes to have the bill corrected. When the waitress brought the check back, she made it sound like she was doing us a favor by taking the two drinks we did not consume off the bill."

  • "We went to the new 911 Museum, and wanted a restaurant close by on the river. What a find! Possibly the best, freshest fried calamari I've ever had. And the NY cheesecake was outstanding as well. Server was very attentive. This restaurant not only offers a lovely view of the Hudson River, but of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island as well. I will be back!"
