Merchant's RestaurantWish I'd tried this place soonerWent to Merchant's as a birthday present for my girlfriend. I've lived in Nashville for 7 years now and this was my first time trying Merchants. I wish that I'd gone sooner because this place was great! The service was probably the best I've experienced in Nashville ever. We dined in the 1st floor section of the restaurant, the bartenders were nice, and the servers were very attentive. I'd recommend just stopping in for a drink or a full meal, the cocktails were very well made, and the food was great. The only minor complaint I could have is that it was a little loud with all the people and music, but I'm hypersensitive to noise so it's not likely to be a problem to most people.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThank You.We had a very pleasant experience at the Nashville, downtown Merchant's Restaurant. Location, valet parking, reception, table, Jenna C. (our server) were all excellent.
The food was unique and special - served hot and fresh. Jenna timed our experience nicely.
Thank You: Gary & Jean.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food in the middle of it all!Restaurant in in the middle of downtown nightlife but with none of the cheesy chains. Food was great and the Bloody Mary was perfect. Chicken sandwich was huge and sweet potato french fries with barbeque sauce (fantastic comboniation). Definitely will recommend6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWill return soon.just a very cool place to meet, eat and be a part of a vibrant scene. With all the country/western vibe in that area, Merchants is a step in another direction, which was refreshing; a place for a more cosmopolitan crowd. Again, a cool place to be in downtown Nashville.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary dinner at MerchantsThe best restaurant in town! Loved the romantic ambience. The service was professional without being rushed. The menu offered both a nice variety and some unique options. The appetizers were the right size and quite tasty. The entrees were very good, although the fish (Cobia) was a bit under done and lacked flavor. They only offered three options and none chocolate, but the pistachio flavored one was excellent.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Nice ExperienceStopped here for a 20th Anniversary dinner on the way to a show at the Ryman and sat downstairs. People watching near the front corner was an added treat. Never saw the need to head upstairs to eat. There's plenty to choose from.
Had the quacamole app and it was tasty. We then split the fish tacos and mac and cheese. Tacos were very tasty with an occasional blast of heat from the pico. Mac was cooked just right and the flavor blend of cheese and poblano peppers was most enjoyable.
Pricing is reasonable for what you get. We would go back.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMBest non bar food lunchI found this place using the opentable app then ate here three times for lunch while visiting Nashville. The kitchen service was surprisingly fast each time. The staff friendly each time. It gets busy quick so if you are more than a party of 1-2 make a reservation - even for lunch. Only the bar counter is first come first serve - tables in the bar are for reservations. As lunch menu options I recommend the fish tacos, salmon sandwich with sweet potato fries, and the burger - in that order.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a treatGive the veggie burger a try. The bartenders are top notch, and know how to not only mix fabulous drinks, but entertain you in the process. True mixologists!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved our downstairs experienceWe often visit downtown restaurants before symphony performances. We have visited Merchant's several times, but this was our first to eat downstairs. We enjoyed it a lot.
The upstairs restaurant is more elegant, including a more extensive menu. The downstairs restaurant has a simple menu, and is much more vibrant. We really enjoyed the experience, which included a good view of all the hustle and bustle of people on Broadway.
The food includes the best fried green tomatoes we have had in Nashville, a good selection of burgers and sandwiches, a few upscale main dishes, and some very good desserts.
Our meal was excellent and the experience was fun. The wine selection was very good.
Highly recommended.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMDelish!LOVED it! Everything was delicious, approachable and well-made.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service! The service was great; just wish the food lived up to it. The food was adequate but definitely over priced. Still enjoyed my very first meal in Nashville!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a very nice dinner. We had a very nice dinner. It was our anniversary weekend so we went here during our weekend in Nashville. Overall we had a great experience. The food was pretty good but not fabulous. I would return to try something new.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat overall experienceWe dined before a concert that we were seeing downtown. We started with the duck fat tater tots. Good, but not outstanding. I ordered the blackened tilapia with sweet potato and poblano hash and roasted corn. I loved it! Great flavor and still felt light. My husband had the french dip, but he says he wishes he would have ordered the tilapia as well. Had the cheesecake for dessert, which wasn't extraordinary, but it satisfied our sweet tooth. Will definitely be back to Merchant's the next time we visit Nashville.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMerchant's was greatWe had a reservation and did not have to wait, even on a Friday night. We had a great window table with a terrific view for people watching on Broadway! Food was great and there is a variety of unique drinks on the menu!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMIn town for a concertThe service was awesome...every employee that passed by our table offered to refill our drinks. I had the bbq brisket on cornbread and slaw. It was divine. The atmosphere was unique and chill. I really enjoyed it.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMfood was fair, cabbage onfood was fair, cabbage on fish taco had the hard white part, had to chew. potatos on the chicken breast plate were very bland, needed salt and peppper at the least. Noisy, crowded. Great Staff.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AM33rd anniversary at Merchant'sFood was good, service was very good.
Wine was a little pricey, but tasty. Creme
brulee was awesome. Very noisy for a
Thursday night. We ate downstairs in the
Bistro. Overall, we enjoyed it and would
recommend it.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFun downtown stapleGlad to have used Open Table to secure a table at the street level (casual) dining area before a concert at the Ryman. It was busy with diners and bar business. Soup and salads were fresh, tasty, and generous.. Servers were attentive refilling drinks. Our table provided a view of Broadway and all the foot traffic was entertaining.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWeekday LunchI like this place a lot. It's right on the corner of 4th and Broadway. It's a lively location. It's in the heart of downtown and gets a lot of business people at lunch time. It can get quite busy. The service if friendly, helpful and attentive. I had the blackened tilapia with a side of the pimento cheese grits. The grits were outstanding. The rum blondie with pecan ice cream for desert was very sweet and rich. This place is a bit on the pricey side, however that seems to result in a more well-heeled clientele for being in the middle of the honky tonk, tourist scene.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat AmbianceTerrific location for lovely dining experience. Interesting menu with extensive wine list.
On Broadway but upstairs so quieter than being on the street.
Good ambiance for a special evening out.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat good and service!I took my fiancé there before a concert and we had an amazing time. The good was outstanding and I couldn't take more than two sips of water before someone was coming around to refill it. Great time, I would highly recommend the upstairs part of the restaurant if you are looking for a romantic setting.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot, great food*Note: This review is for the downstairs/casual bistro*
We knew we were only going to have one dinner in Nashville, so we debated for a while before settling on Merchant's. It ended up being a good call.
Its location right on the corner of Main St. and 4th Ave S. was terrific -- right in the middle of all the action. The classy, yet relaxed feel of the restaurant was exactly what we wanted. It didn't feel like we were in loud and overcrowded tourist spot, but we still felt part of the excitement around us, as we could look out onto the street to see everyone passing by.
The food was very good. We had the duck fat tots (solid, slightly saltier than reg. tots). I also enjoyed my soup & sammy. My girlfriend liked her fish tacos.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMMerchants well worth the stopVery much enjoyed our recent stop at Merchants. The pork belly and beef tartar appetizers were awesome. Sea food offerings were very good. Blackened tile fish seasoned perfectly. Cocktails and wine were very complementary and the entire atmosphere was fun and energetic as we were preparing to get our honky tonk on!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWE had a great evening. WeWE had a great evening. We ate at the first floor bistro and were seated at the window. Great place to sit because Broadway Street is a great people watching place. Our waitress was at the table within minutes bringing us their great popcorn and took a drink order. We ordered the duck fat tator tots to start off and they were amazing. The blackened tilapia was excellent, cooked perfect and the sweet potato hash was a perfect match. The rib eye steak was cooked perfectly as well. Had a great evening and will return the next time we are in Nashville.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat appetizers. disappointedGreat appetizers. disappointed by good but not great jambalaya. all other dishes were great. one of the better stops in Nashville.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways enjoyable to dine atAlways enjoyable to dine at Merchant's. Food and service were excellent, and I like that the upstairs and downstairs seating areas offer completely different options.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMHad originally made the reservationHad originally made the reservations for second floor dining. They were nice enough to call to let me know that area had been reserved for an event since I made the reservation and would downstairs bistro be ok instead.
We had a fabulous table by the front window to people watch. The food was amazing. This added so much to our Nashville experience as we were in town to go to the Elton John concert. The crab cake was delicious and the steaks were prepared perfectly.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMTo begin our night, the shuttleTo begin our night, the shuttle from our hotel to the restaurant was late, so I called the restaurant. When we arrived, the staff was very understanding and honored our reservation.Merchant’s has a really fun vibe. It’s great for people watching.
The food was very good and the prices were reasonable. The wine list had some nice moderately priced wines. The wait staff was very helpful and attentive. We were completely surprised to be served a complimentary dessert. Still not sure why, but it was such a lovely treat. I rarely order dessert, but that peach cobbler was one of the all-time best desserts I’ve ever had. Great experience there from start to finish. We’d recommend it. We’d go back.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
