Great casual ambiance and great drink menu. We ordered the deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes and tilapia. The deviled eggs and tilapia were fabulous! The fried green tomatoes were good, but probably wouldn't get them again. They have a very heavy breadibg on them.

It was a very cold night in Nashville and our seats were right near the door. Every time someone entered or left the restaurant we were hit with a wave of cold air. When the booth behind us, out of the wind, opened up we asked to move to it. Our hostess said we could not. We decided then to leave the restaurant, but our waitress moved us to the other booth so that we would stay for dinner.

We ate upstairs. Menu was very limited. Some of the meals were just OK. Pricey. Nothing came with entrees. Salads were extra. Service was Good, but not Great. We would not go back to upstairs, we may eat downstairs.

The downstairs bar is very nice for drinks and we had dinner in the upstairs part of the restaurant which is a bit more formal. For appetizers we really liked the tuna, beef carpacio, and the oysters. The entrees were good but not overwhelming, the pork loin and steaks were ok and the sides were a bit hit and miss. The duck fat fries were very good.

For dinner for two over $100.00, you should have an attentive server. Did not. Noise level on first floor deafening! On second floor in fine dinning, less, but distracting for a couple. Most disappointing was the server. He took the order, brought the check...in between, where was he?

Everything was wonderful! We had great service, the wine list was wonderful, the appetizers and dinners were fabulous. For the appetizer you need to start with the Tater Tots, Wow. The Brisket and Chicken Fried Chicken was our favorites. Make a reservation this place is packed.

My wife and I were in Nashville for our first anniversary (October 19), and our AMAZING experience included the following: - Environment: cool, speakeasy-type vibe; great music at the perfect volume; great lighting (not too dim, but not too bright). - Drinks: fantastic (with particular kudos to the Mad Hatter and Moscow Mule). - Appetizer/salad: excellent (warm oysters; romaine/caesar salad with buttered breadcrumbs). - Main course: again...AMAZING (gulf coast swordfish and carnaroli risotto). - Dessert: scrumptious (lemon tart). - Service: among the BEST we've ever experienced (Dana D.)! She was extremely friendly, upbeat, and knowledgeable throughout our visit. Merchants is extremely lucky to have her!

First time visitor to this restaurant so went by the reviews for input. Chose the upstairs because we wanted a 'quieter' place for dinner. However, when we arrived, the hostess showed us 2 menus, the one from the website which is only available downstairs and an entirely different, more expensive menu for the upstairs. We were not interested in the alternate menu so asked to be seated downstairs. At first hostess said we would have to wait an hour but then I reminded her we had reservations and did not appreciate the switch in menus. They finally seated us downstairs after a 15 minute wait. Please update your website to accurately reflect different menus for upstairs and downstairs. It is quite deceptive as it currently stands.

We wanted to check it out, and plan to have a rehearsal dinner here in the spring. We couldn't "view" that private room until the next day, as there was a party going on Friday night and understandably didn't want to have us up there. We did come back. This is such a great spot to send your guests and visitors as it is in the middle of honky tonk! Service was outstanding. Cocktails great! Check was surprisingly reasonable for all we drank and ate!

I've eaten at Merchants several times downstairs and always loved it. I requested to try the 2nd floor for my birthday dinner this year. Very different vibes - Downstairs is high energy and more casual; Upstairs is warm, relaxing and romantic. In my mid-20s, it had a bit of an older crowd, but I like to go fancy sometimes :) Our cocktails were solid classic creations. We ended up trying half of the menu (very concise upstairs), and everything was delicious. Absolutely no complaints. When we asked, our server was frank about the best options while remaining respectful of chef's choices - few people can do that well. His recommendations were awesome. Staff took great care of us from start to finish, and we were very well fed!

The restaurant was great, the food was delicious but more of an urban take on Southern cuisine. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You definitely need to make reservations, though; my hubby thought I was silly making dinner reservations at 4:30pm but was thankful that I did because when we got there at 4:25pm, the restaurant was packed and hopping. Only thing that really detracted from the ambiance was the noise level was through the roof. I wish they had some decor or curtains or something that could absorb or muffle some of the conversations that bounced around all the tile and glass in the restaurant.

This was our first time dining upstairs at Merchant's. It was a much more intimate atmosphere and significantly quieter than the high energy we just left on Broadway on a Saturday evening. The wait staff was very polite and organized; we never wanted for service nor did we get interrupted by overly hovering servers. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and the beverage choices and could make recommendations if you wanted. The food was amazing! The menu selections were exotic and delightful. My wife had the swordfish and I the risotto; both were absolutely delicious. We also had the pork belly wraps for an appetizer and those were really good and sort of fun to eat. We will definitely be coming back!

Made reservation on Open Table and was very disappointed with where we were seated. Merchants has "casual" dining on the first floor and "fine" dining on the second floor. We were seated in casual dining and we were expecting that all dining was fine dining. Since this was a birthday celebration and we were dressed up, I was extremely disappointed. Open Table needs to amend their reservation selection to include both dining options at this restaurant!

Very good and somewhat eclectic wine list - both by the glass and the bottle. Loved sitting downstairs with a phenomenal view of the Broadway St. happenings. Excellent service all around. We tried the duck fat tater tots; tasted pretty much just like a regular tater tot. We were expecting something a little more with a 'wow' factor here. The brisket was incredible as was the cornbread it came with. Love the popcorn with ranch seasoning on it! We will be back to try other things.

Not a fan when a restaurant LETS YOU ORDER something they are out of. Ordered a wine on the menu - they were out. Ordered a drink on the menu - they were out. Ordered oysters - they were out. When charging a high premium, restaurants should deliver on service. Servers should be aware of what is not available. I'll try it again, maybe, since the last time was excellent, but I won't recommend it anymore before I do.

There were two problems, the wait staff was very hard sell with what you needed to buy and over use of adjectives to describe food. There was never a dialogue between the customer and the establishement. The initial cocktails were very good. The Bibb Salad was good. One of us had the roasted zucchini and the pesto came across as too salty, it wasn't unedible just different. If it was done deliberately then okay, but it came across as a mistake in the seasoning. I had the scallops which were very good. The kitchen and wait staff made a very poor decision to serve the mousse dessert frozen. It was such a poor decision that we will not eat at this restaurant again.

I love Merchant's. It's one of my favorite restaurants that is in the heart of downtown Nashville, but feels somewhere else completely. Surrounded by all the Honky Tonks and country music history, yet it transfers you to 1920s feel with great food and amazing Mixologists who make great drink! Definitely try the Duck Fat Tator Tots for your appetizer. You won't be disappointed.

We ate in the bistro, which is the ground floor level. It is VERY casual, and also VERY noisy. I had the blackened catfish sandwich, which was good, but nothing special. Others is our party had a salad and sandwiches. They were all good, presented well. The service seemed a bit slow and we had to track down our waiter once or twice. Merchants is a Nashville fixture in the lower Broadway area, so it is worth a visit, especially if you are from out of town.
