  • "A friend came in town and I wanted to take her somewhere nice downtown so I chose Merchants. It was my second time going and it was just as great as the first! It's a little pricey but definitely worth it!!"

  • "This place has gone downhill in every respect since we were last there about 6-8 years ago. Seems to be a victim of the surging crowds inexplicably drawn to its Lower Broad address these days. What used to be a relatively quiet and most enjoyable experience has been reduced to just another "joint" on the carnival like atmosphere of Lower Broad. Might be better if they moved out to midtown. Too bad."

  • "Food was good and service was efficient....popcorn is the best appetizer!"

  • "We were seated on the second floor at our request. There was a group of approximately 25 guys so it was very hard to have a conversation with the other couple at the table...after they left they immediately sat another group of 25 guys so needless to say it was Loud! Started with the charcuterie board; this was horrible. The four entree's we selected were; trout (2), chicken and beef. It wasn't the worst food but it was not good either. I could not recommend it to someone else and I doubt I would return for dinner."

  • "The staff at Meechants is tops. Especially our waiter Harrison. But the reservation staff was super accommodating and the manager even followed up with a personal email confirming changes to our reservation."

  • "Loved everything about the restaurant EXCEPT I want to tip our server for the great service she gave us however everyone shares the tips so she had to share with everyone ( who we witnessed weren't anywhere near as good as she was ). I don't like that policy"

  • "Went for a 15th anniversary dinner. Atmosphere was modern, friendly, yet personal. Our server was very knowledgable about them menu and made great recommendations. Just the right amount of service. I had the blackened tilapia. The sweet potato hash was fantastic. My husband had the jumbalaya. It had a ton of chicken, he was hoping for more sausage and shrimp, as well as a little more heat. Both of is really enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!!"

  • "There are many varieties of establishments on Broadway in Nashville, but Merchants stands out as an upscale restaurant in the midst of generic BBQ and tourist joints. We highly recommend the food and the service was outstanding. Peach cobbler for dessert was a real treat."

  • "WE eat at this restaurant often. It is convenient to the Symphony, Ryman, and Bridgestone Arena. Love the food and the service. Love the valet parking as well."

  • "Great ambiance right in the heart of Nashville. The cheese grits are to die for with the pork chop. The beef brisket is fairly dry, but still great flavor. Definitely a must for visitors."

  • "Excellent lunch spot at their downstairs. Great drink menu. Great service, even though they were slammed."

  • "If you go to this restaurant dine downstairs. The menu and food are incredible. Upstairs ambience is blah. The section we sat in did not even have pictures on the walls. The menu upstairs is limited too. The chef is great but upstairs ambience needs help."

  • "We always enjoy eating on the lower floor. The food is always great and the service is very good. Would highly recommend if staying in Nashville!"

  • "Great evening. Merchants never disappoints. The foor and presentation is always good. One must try the Mac and Cheese. It is perfect to share as an appetizer or a side dish. We like eating downstairs with out if town guests for the ambience and experience. We choose dining upstairs for special occasions."

  • "One of my favorite restaurants in the downtown Nashville historic district. A more upscale place to enjoy a meal than the close by bars with a variety of foods to choose that are consistently good enough to satisfy any foodie."

  • "Could you imagine Tootsie's deciding to have a jukebox in the front window instead of a crowded band? Well, sit on tired menus items, hire a serving staff that acts bored and indifferent and then price the "specialty of the house" about twice the value of the meal and you have the current Merchant's. The Market Price ($125) bone in Ribeye was dry aged alright and the top layer of the meet served was pretty good but the fat that was served as meat that was hid underneath was just that, seasoned fat. Main server was bored. Secondary serving staff was trying hard but they just couldn't overcome a tired restaurant in need of a kick in the kitchen. (and management) On a bright note the mashed potatoes and zucchini sides were very good."

  • "Made reservations with OT and were greeted and seated immediately. Of note was the banquette I was seated on was wobbly and a bit uncomfortable. We started with excellent cocktails - had a Old Fashioned that was among the best ever. Server was a bit slow in arriving, but apologetic for it. We started with duck fat tater tots and fried green tomatoes. Tater tots were... well tater tots - duck fat not noticed. Sauces with tots were great. Tomatoes - ice cold, in fact the portion I tried was frozen in the middle. We waited quite a while to get servers attention and pointed out tomato problem. New ones brought and comped for us. Chicken fried chicken was great, nice spinach and red potato mash. Would go back."

  • "We were in Nashville for a few days and the temp was in the 90's. Very hot and humid. This was a real treat to get out of the downtown frenzy and relax over a nice lunch. We had made reservations so our table was ready when we arrived. The restaurant is very popular, so I would recommend making reservations. The food was good. My blackened talapia was excellent. My husbands pulled pork sandwich was good, but nothing to write home about. The fried green tomatoes were very good and came atop a spicy sauce. We didn't have dessert. The service was excellent. The waiter came around several times to make sure all was okay. Would come here again and maybe try the upstairs dining (it only opens in the evening)."

  • "Such a neat resemblance to an old style diner! The food was fantastic and the Tennessee Mojito was perfect for a brunch cocktail!"
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "The service was good as was the ambiance. We loved our cocktails. The beef tartare was ok but was accompanied with vinegar seasoned vegetables which made it almost unpalatable. Hard to go wrong with tartare but this dish did. Both of our entrees were super salty, to the point that it overtook the flavors of the meal."

  • "Arrived early and the bartender was super accommodating to my request - which I appreciate. When we were seated, I just couldnt get over how warm it was. Like usually I am freezing in restaurants but I was sweating in this one. I think they needed to put the AC up just a bit more. Food was great - had the blackened Tilapia and it was fantastic. Very crowded to definitely make a reservation."

  • "Really glam interior, especially for the honky tonkin part of town. Great location on the corner of 4th and Broadway so get a seat near the window for superb people watching. Very good cocktail list. Do not miss the tater tots, cooked in duck fat so they are super crispy. It can be a bit of a challenge to find a lot of healthy choices on the menu so do what I did and have a champagne cocktail and tater tots and then go to the gym later!"

  • "Met out of state friends there for lunch because I knew they'd enjoy the food and being on Broadway. Everyone loved their lunch except me. I stepped away from my Merchant standards and ordered the Chicken Salad Salad. The chicken salad was tasty and fresh but the presentation was far short of what I expect from Merchants. It was a huge ball of chicken salad on a small amount of greens. I won't order it again."

  • "Food was excellent but it was very hot in the restaurant. While we were in the downstairs bar, one of the bar tenders mentioned they have a hard time keeping the lower level cool with people coming in and out. Well, the temperature was alright downstairs, but upstairs in the "fine dinning" area, it was hot! The only other complaint is that the number of selections on the menu are very small and somewhat different."

  • "Food is always seasonal, changing, and amazing. The House Dark and Stormy is a great drink as well. Upstairs reservations for a quieter scene, with a louder bar scene downstairs."

  • "Visited Merchants for the first time this week. Our table was waiting, which was great since the restaurant was so busy. I ordered the steak frites medium rare, but the steak was well done, no hint of pink anywhere. The other guests had jambalaya which was good, not super spicy and the pulled pork BBQ sandwich, which was also good. I really liked the atmosphere so I would probably try it again."

  • "A new twist on southern comfort food! Try a half order of the duck fat tater tots and fried green tomatoes as an appetizer...they're delicious. As an entree consider the steak frites or brisket and ask for the house "M-57" sauce, It's a nice addition to the dish. The portions are plenty and the service was wonderful! "

  • "The food tasted great, but the service was lousy. The waitress forgot to put in our appetizer so it arrived just seconds before the entrees, and she refused to comp it. Don't forget to bring your ID for drinks, regardless of your age. I'm 60+ and the waitress refused to serve me. And trust me, as much as I would like to think I look young for my age, I know I don't look THAT young."

  • "Let me start by saying this was my second trip here and it was even better this time! When making a reservation, make sure you specify up or down (upstairs/downstairs) as the menus are different and not interchangeable. Slight confusion as I had called the night before to specify up, but they first tried to seat us down. No worries as there was a table ready and available up, but just make it a point to clarify when making your reso in the comments. The food here is without a doubt some of the best I have had in Nashville! Can't wait to come back!"

  • "Our first visit to Nashville, chose Merchant's on the recommendation of a friend. We were seated in a corner booth, perfect for people watching on Broadway. For an appetizer I ordered the tater tots cooked in duck fat, very disappointing, nothing special at all, I could have done this at home and the portion was extremely large. My husband had the southern fry: catfish, shrimp, okra, & pickles. OK tasting, but a little too heavily fried, and, again, a very large portion. My entree was the chicken fried chicken, mashed potato, spinach & gravy. All very good, once again, way too much food! My husband had the brisket which was a little tough. I can't remember a restaurant where we've left so much food on our plates. Disappointing!"

  • "This restaurant was a pick because it was right down from our hotel. We made a quick reservation online and it was a great pick! The one thing that we didn't note was that there are separate menus for the upstairs and downstairs dining areas. We enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere with hearty portions of fabulous food downstairs. We loved everything from the cute tins of popcorn at seating to the recommendations from our waitress. We would definitely visit again if in town. "

  • "Two floors with very different menus. Merchants upstairs is a touch of class among the Broadway bar scene. Menu is short, but the choices are notable. Staff is knowledgeable and attentive. Downstairs is good bar food in a crowded casual atmosphere."
