A word from Mercer Kitchen
Located at the Mercer Hotel, Mercer Kitchen brings a chic, sophisticated vibe to the heart of SoHo. When Mercer Kitchen opened in 1998, it immediately became a destination for New Yorkers, celebrities, and tourists. Situated in the basement of a historic building constructed in the 1800s, the… restaurant was designed by Christian Liaigre as a combination of industrial and classic modernism. Chef Jean-Georges’ American menu features market-driven, seasonal ingredients prepared in a simple yet elegant style, with favorites like the Tuna Spring Roll, Steamed Shrimp Salad, wood-fired pizzas, and classic Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake. There is an open kitchen, where guests can sit back and watch the show.Continued
Diner Reviews
  • "The food was amazing!! The only downside of the experience was the waiter forgot that we wanted to take home our leftovers and by the time we paid the bill we never got our take out bag. It was too late so we couldn't wait around to fix the problem."

  • "I like this restaurant. Food is good. The only thing, the service is not so great."

  • "I had been to the Mercer Kitchen a few years ago and recall a much better experience. This recent visit was not the same experience. I ordered the hake. While beautifully presented, it lacked flavor. A pinch of salt would have gone a long way. French fries and baked chopped potatoes that could have been Ore Ida as side dishes? As for service, one of my guests ordered a "white zinfandel". A red zinfandel was served. When we asked the waiter his reply was "We only have a red zinfandel." Not sure why he took the liberties to decide we instead wanted a red. Main courses arrived late. Waiter's reply "It was quiet all evening and then we had a rush of guests to manage." Atmosphere was energetic. Nothing to write home about."

  • "Not a great experience. Food was average and service was a disaster. Beautiful space but would never think about returning."

  • "Was immediately impressed with thealmost speak easy vibe of the dinning room down stairs at the Mercer Kitchen. Warm and invitiing lounges run throughout the restaurant. Low archways and dim lighting making for an intimate and mysterious feel. Variety of meal options for foodies all the way through to your more traditional menu items to please any one and everyone and without the pang of guilt when you see the bill at the end of the night. Overall a great experience and a fun night."

  • "So went to Mercer Kitchen and food, atmosphere was great but have to say all of the people working there were fantastic but our server definitely had an "food snob" attitude…other than that, great!!"

  • "great place - great menu! what's with the servers grabbing your plates before you are done eating? rude - rude! constant reminders to up-sell, order faster, check before it was asked for we were not lingering or loitering!"

  • "Accommodating great place. Very good food. Can't wait to come again."

  • "Wait staff is arrogant and clearly wants to be somewhere else other than waiting on you. I had a corked bottle of wine and the waiter arrogantly told me I was wrong it's fine he tried it. We did not drink it. When the sommelier came by to open our red that we ordered I said I did not realize Mercer had a sommelier. I asked him if he would test the white that we thought was corked and he was visibly taken a back and said indeed it was and immediately had it removed from table and bill. The waiter later came by and said to be "you were right" like wow you do know something. Totally arrogant staff we had to wait 30 minutes past our reaervation and honestly I have had better food it's just not that good."

  • "Mercer Kitchen was recommended by a friend that lives in the city and I am so glad went there. The food was excellent...my NY Strip waste best I have ever had. My husband raved about his pork chop for days and said it was easily the best he ever had. Overall, a great experience and we will definitely go back!"

  • "Very attentive, but not intrusive, wait staff. Good selection of food. Great bread. Pancakes were amazing! ordered a plate for the table(6) as wait staff suggested. We ordered a variety of entrees: omelet (that came with fresh green salad!), cheeseburger with fries, pizza, eggs benedict. All excellent. Pasta might have been a little salty) Fruit side was very fresh and tasty. Provided a nice break to shopping in Soho. Busy, but quiet enough we could hear each other. Only mild concern is that the downstairs area did not seem to have good a/c and was warm-but others in our party did not notice as much as me. Would definitely eat here again."

  • "The Mercer kitchen was a blast. I came with a group of friends for a birthday dinner and they really made it special. They got is seated right away and our server Vince was excellent. We loved the soft shell crab and the chorizo pizza- yum! I will absolutely return, keep doing what you're doing!"

  • "Always enjoyable. Our waiter was helpful and offered good suggestions when we found out the salmon we like was sold out. But the sea bass replacement was excellent. Comfortable lunch experience."

  • "We had heard that Mercer Kitchen was great. We came there and they told us that we have to wait for 5 min they were just putting our table up, but we waited for 35 min and they didnt even appologize. I was expecting better food, at least what I got, my boyfriends meal was ok."

  • "The veal was not good, we were two who ordered the same dish and both of us had to return it. In addition we got a poor table in a corner, despite reservations."

  • "Looking for an upscale hip spot to entertain a client and be able to have a conversation without shouting, or feeling cramped? Mercer Kitchen delivers- food is delicious and menu varied enough to satisfy all tastes."

  • "The wait staff are honest about their preference for one dish over another when asked for suggestions. The food is great, and they have very good customer service. Our server forgot to bring out our oysters before our entree, and we expressed that they are not as good after food - and we didn't want our entrees to get cold. After being very apologetic, the manager came out with a dozen oysters - which were on the house. Great experience, even with the slip from the server."

  • "Mercer kitchen was really great, and a nice hidden gem in the heart of Soho. My wife and I were seated right away and started with some champagne to celebrate our stay-cation for July 4th holiday. We had some of the best salmon and puffed rice treats for our appetizer! The in-house Burrata with home-made cherry jam might have stole the show. The service was amazing too! Our server was very attentive and the manager Ryan visited and was so kind as well. We will definitely be back to Mercer Kitchen!"

  • "Fashionable restaurant to dine in Soho. Refined and very fresh dishes. Service personnel a little too diligent, maybe seeing the opportunity to fill in the table once again before the working day ends?"

  • "this is one of my favorite soho restaurants. I always come for dinner and for the first time decided to try them out for brunch. it was not the best experience. the service was horrible. no one came to our table for over 30 minutes and we finally had to ask another server where our server was as no one ever assisted us."

  • "We had been to MK before for brunch and it was just ok, so we were hesitant to return. Dinner did not disappoint. Great apps including tempura softshell crab and burrata. Very fresh shrimp cocktail. Pork chop entree is spectacular. Dessert was a bit underwhelming and my coffee was not hot. But overall very enjoyable experience."

  • "I've been coming for lunch and dinner with friends for a while. I came with out of town family who have never been and I have to say without it being a special occasion, the team really gave superb service. The manager personally checked on us at least twice and we are grateful to have started out our weekend brunch into the rest of the day with such a lovely start."

  • "I must say...... it has been a while since I've been hear and mercer's staff a Has not skipped a beat. Their services impeccable and food always makes my mouth water. One of the few restaurants I have been too that has the total package. Looking forward to dinning there again"

  • "Loud, energetic vibe on the downstairs bar area and resturaunt. I ordered the Mercer, a $20+ burger. I have been in NY many years so the price wasn't shocking. It was the size and most of all the bun that was surprising. I have seen better buns at McDonalds. Yes the burger was better, but having a signature burger you expect it to be served and go WOW!! Otherwise, enjoyable good any scene."

  • "This restaurant was founded by legendary Chef Extraordinaire, Jean-Georges Vongerichten of Restaurant Jean-Georges fame. It is in the basement of the Mercer Hotel in the heart of the Soho shopping district. The food and ambiance are the best and price reasonable by New York standards. Try the "wasabi" pizza for a unique twist on a traditional dish."

  • "I absolutely love the spring pea soup at Mercer Kitchen! I had that as my appetizer, and my husband had the shrimp salad which was fresh and delicious. For our entrées, I had the salmon, and my husband had the bass. Both fish were very well prepared."

  • "It was girls weekend in NYC and this was the perfect way to end our Broadway Show experience. The waiter was very kind and made great suggestions. Even when an item that was ordered was not what was expected, the manager and waiter went above and beyond to ensure we got another item that was delicious."

  • "I arrived with my girlfriend sunday morning for brunch and were led downstairs. We were greeted by a pretentious, rude blond host who proceeded to look around an empty room trying to find us a table. When I asked if we could sit under the sky light she said "I can't sit you there". Mind you there were about 12 tables under the light that were empty. When I questioned her, she responded "I see where your going". When we left the 12 tables were still empty. I don't know her reason and nor do I give a sh*t but this girl should come back to the real world and remember if people like me don't eat at your restaurant you lose a job. The bottom line is I'd rather starve to death than ever enter this obnoxious place ever again!"
