My friend and I went on a lady date this week and decided on Mercato. Neither of us have ever been but we heard nothing but great things. The minute we walked in the door I knew it was going to be a great night. The meatballs are AMAZING!!! the Artichokes to die for. The staff was friendly and even though they were busy they didn't rush us out. We both finished a bottle of wine and so full that we couldn't move! Great place for dates, family, friends.

The food was excellent as always. This place is small and loud but the food more than makes up for it. The servers really know how to make the tight space work, they were the perfect mix of attentive without being overbearing or in the way. We will keep coming back.

Mercato is a great BYOB located in center city. The food is outstanding and the service is above reproach. It also doesn't hurt that you can bring your own wine. My only complaint -- and this is minor is the noise level (due to low ceiling) We went early (5:30) because we were attending a show at the Walnut, so this did not bother us. Will definitely return.

My husband and I chose this restaurant because of the reviews. It was fabulous. I made a reservation and our table was ready when we arrived. The food was absolutely fantastic. I had the ribs and he had the veal. HMM Good. My only criticism would be the noise level. IT was VERY loud. Had to talk and the table next to us was literally next to us. We could have been eating with that group. So, my recommendation enjoy the food and talk after. Or eat outside.

Mercato is a consistently impressive dinner spot. We really enjoyed the mussels-- the broth was excellent-- and two of the seasonal pasta dishes. I actually moved out of Philly a few months ago, but picked this spot to have dinner one of the three nights I was back in town.

Mercato, when at capacity on a Friday or Saturday night, can be almost intolerably loud and crowded. The food, however, is worth it... Though our pasta course was undercooked, the olive oil tasting was delightful and our tuna was prepared perfectly. Order what's on special or opt for their famous "pyramid pasta" with lobster.

We always make this place a destination when we are in Philadelphia for business. And we always drag our friends along...people who already know and love the place or people we want to introduce to Mercato. We went twice, Friday and Sunday. We had to wait an extra 45 minutes even though we had 9:30 reservations but the food is always worth the wait. Staff is very accommodating and attentive. Very noisy on the weekends so go on a Sunday if you don't want to yell to be heard at the table.

On balance, this is an excellent place to go for dinner before the "show". It is very convenient to the general Kimmel Center area. The menu was traditional, yet with unusual twists. The food was excellent, perhaps short of "outstanding". The tables are small and very close together and the noise level is somewhat high as the place fills up. We went early, approximately 6:15pm, so the noise and crowding had not yet build up, thus, overall, a very pleasant dining experience. The wait staff was very responsive and helpful. The drive in, however, was a serious challenge.

If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd be a regular. Menu is eclectic in a good way with interesting preparations. Setting is a small space but we enjoyed the ambiance the space and the crowd created along with the largely open preparation area. The BYOB feature is a positive as well. Recommended.

We enjoyed an pre-theater dinner al fresco here. This BYO was very welcoming, and seemed to have a lively, after work crowd early in the evening. Interesting menu, with some good gluten-free options. Unfortunately, our waiter missed my wife's gluten-free request, but overall we had a great meal with good service in a friendly and fun atmosphere.

This was my 3rd time dining at Mercato and it was great. Each time I go, I tend to either get the "Market Fish" or the "Special of the Day" so the only bad part about that is that it probably wont be there next time; however, this doesn't take away from the fact that the food is exceptional! I LOVE that this is a BYOB place! Only downside about this place is that it is VERY tiny (Tables are literally right on top of each other, however, I did see a large group there and they accommodated them and the setup was nicely done. The group was probably 12ppl) and you 100% need to make a reservation because it is ALWAYS busy. The atmosphere is great! I will definitely be back!

I've been there before. I thought that the portions were very small for the price. I didn't get the artichoke but last time I did and it was great. I also noticed a heavy hand on the salt and lemon in some if the dishes especially veal. My wife enjoyed the scallops and risotto but complained that one if the scallops was slightly under done.

I had the Mako Shark and it was a delicious entrée. The meal was straight off the grill so it was the right temperature and it had a tangy lemon sauce that made what normally would be a bland fish taste really good. The fish was also moist but not undercooked (medium is great). Service was awesome.

A lovely salad of frisée and beets but ho-hum lobster pasta, tough and unchewable veal that was too salty, too cheesy, and with too much lemon juice, and a mango sorbet that was too sweet and glutinous made for a disappointing birthday celebration, despite apologetic staff.

Came to Mercato with my parents and best friend for dinner after an event in the City. Mercato is one of our favorite places to eat in Philly. For a rainy Wednesday night, it was at full capacity. Phenomenal food from start to finish. Definitely save room for dessert. The Olive Oil Cake is so unique and different and worth every calorie! The only potential drawback in the restaurant is the noise level, so if you're looking for quiet, this isn't the place. But the high noise level adds to the electric energy so it can be a lot of fun. Oh - stop by Vilanni's across the street for a pre-dinner drink at the bar. They're the sister restaurant, as we came to discover. Great drink menu and ridiculous happy hour prices (ALL drinks 1/2 off).

The place got packed full of suits around 8:30pm on a week night, kinda added to the ambiance. Recommending this place to all my friends for a special night.

We ate at a table outside so we did not have issues with the noise level that others have complained about. The food was great--we had 1/2 portions of two of the pasta dishes as appetizers. There is no notation on the menu that this is even possible but my dining companion had been here before and knew they would do that if asked. The pasta dishes were wonderful and were a generous size for 1/2 orders. We both enjoyed our entrees as well. Service was great and the overall cost of the dinner was really reasonable since this is a byob.
