Diner Reviews
  • "Dined w/ my BF,we loved what we ordered: Nopales guac, Ceviche mixto & the carne tacos. Nice decor, not to Mexican, we were just a little close to the next table & a bit loud. Service was good & quick. I would go back & recommend."

  • "Mediocre food. Subpar service. Definitely overpriced for the quality."

  • "Went here on a trip to Chicago after reading reviews online and given that I LOVE Mexican food we decided to try it. Really hip restaurant but the food was horrible. Had the pork, shrimp and Baja fish tacos. The shrimp ones were gross (tasted like the sat in a pot of sauce all day) the pork ones tasted like pork and nothing else and the fish ones were ok but only by comparison of the other 2. We told our waitress we didn't like them and she didn't apologize or offer to get us anything else. The regular guac was good but nothing out of this world. The restaurant was filled with a lot of big groups and it was very loud and hard to have a conversation. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all"

  • "I have been coming to mercaditos for a couple years now. What I still don't like about the place, is ow ridiculously close they seat you to other people. I don't like sitting inches from someone else and no one else does either. They keep changing their taco menu, taking off perennial favorites, another thing I don't understand. Please bring back the cobo fish tacos and the chicken/corn tacos!!!"

  • "Felt rushed by our waiter, pushing drinks basically eat and get out, noisy lots of energy. Food was way too salty, waiter said that is the way it is. If you like very salty food, constant interruptions and loud restaurant this is the place."
    Dined on 7/26/2014
  • "All the foods we tried were good- guac and tacos. Drinks were decent. Expect to speak louder than normal to hold conversation with your dinner party as you are in close proximity to other diners. Felt a little rushed to keep getting people in but fun to check out if you like a busy restaurant with some fresh tasting tapas."

  • "Not to mention the great people-watching. We sat on the fantastic little patio. I had the "Little Market" Margarita. The best spicy Margarita I've ever tasted! Couldn't just have one. We had a trio of salsas, the Mixto Ceviche and the Fundito with Spare Ribs. Everything we tasted was an experience!"

  • "We went on a Wed night for dinner with a party of 6. The food was great, however the service left the out-of-towners with a bad impression of the restaurant. We continually had empty glasses and were not asked if we wanted more margaritas (which we did), and we wanted to order more food but by the time the waiter came back we had to get our check to be somewhere else (it was a good 20 mins between visits from the waiter). Overall I will go back because I like the food and typically have good service, but I doubt my friends will want to come back or recommend it to anyone else."

  • "I arrived for my reservation on Tuesday 7/22 @5pm excited about taco tuesday because i hadn't been there in a while the hostess asked if we'd be dinning i said yes, however she did not mention that the "taco tuesday" special was only being served in the lounge area, we found out after placing our order with out waiter so we had to be reseated and when our waiter asked her for a new table she rolled her eyes and seemed annoyed to have to tap another button on her screen. The restaurant wasnt even busy at this time there where plenty of open seats. 30 mins later a set of older ladies came she seated them on the same side as us and that asked for diff table and the same hostess was stomping and huffing & puffing while she reseated them"

  • "Waiter messed up order with drinks and the VERY MINUTE we took our last bite they came and cleaned the table while we were sitting there...NOT GOOD!!! great meal but not great service... also they brought our food in two different groups...again NOT good"

  • "This is my second time at the restaurant. Tacos good, black beans and rice were just OK (not much flavor). Service attentive. Would absolutely recommend for eclectic Mexican food."

  • "I planned a girls dinner night at Mercadito it was perfect because the plates are meant to be shared we sampled alot of items on the menu everything tasted so wonderful. After dinner we went to the lower level for drinks, I liked that the drink menu is different the ambiance was very nice."

  • "I went to Mercadito for a friends birthday dinner and it was absolutely amazing! Best ambiance and even better service! I can't say enough about how considerate and friendly the staff was. The food was also to that caliber. I would go back here in a heart beat! Amazing restaurant!"

  • "Delicious food! Highly recommend the estilo baja tacos, arroz verde, and guac! Gets really crowded (tables are realy tight together), so make a reservation in advance."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "We went around 6:30 and were seated promptly. Of course we were at a two top crammed with tables so close you could not get in between to get to the seats. If they could remove one table everyone could get in and out. You can't get to your seat without disrupting the dining experience of those seated next to you. Despite that ONE BIG criticism, the service was very good. Based on other reviews, I was worried we would be rushed but not at all although they do have frequent visits from the front of the house to check on your status. The server and bus boys were very friendly and while efficient we never felt rushed. THE FOOD WAS GREAT! We followed their recommendations and everything from guacamole to entrees were terrific. We will return."

  • "Out of towners and we enjoyed the atmoshpere; cuisine; and piano music. Service was exceptional and we will be back."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "Terrific Shrimp tacos and guac! A little noisy for business conversation at lunch. Would definitely go back though, next time I'll have margaritas!"
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "The atmosphere and service were great (also because we were dining at 10pm on a weekday) but the food was a little to pricey for the quality. The amount of food was a decent portion but I didn't care for my veggie enchiladas much. It was nice that they had veggie options though! The enchiladas were too soggy and the sauce was not that great. Neither was the rice (just plain white rice)."

  • "I have been here several times now and the food is outstanding. The corn masa quesadillas are a must try, as are the tacos (the mushroom ones are my favorite). The drinks are tasty and the service is great. I tried the bread pudding dessert this time and it is phenomenal. The guacamole flights are a must have for any guac lover! Originally from NY, this is my favorite restaurant since moving here."

  • "Great overall experience. Love the food!! Loved all the options of tacos. Would love to see a few more vegetarian options to bring friends along who aren't the meat eaters."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "great time... fun place great for margaritas and cava!"
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "Plenty of great food to try. So many flavorful salsas and other dips to try. Tacos come out like tapas and are gread for sharing and trying new flavors. The seating is quite cramped. I'm not a small guy and I felt like I could easily reach over and have some chips from my the table next to me. We were still able to carry on good conversation even though it was quite loud."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "The food and atmosphere was merely perfect. My only annoyance was that it was extremely loud. I do admit, this was due to my personal preference. It was Thursday night, and my girlfriend and I spent hours walking and touring the city. We just wanted to chat. I would def love this spot for happy hour, pre-game or celebrations for large parties. The good is great. The service is on-point. We arrived 15 minutes ahead of time and were seated 10 minutes before our reservation time and the place was packed. They keep a really accurate schedule!"
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "The food was fantastic and the service excellent! We ordered a variety of dishes and there wasn't any dish we didn't like. My only complaint was the noise level which made it almost impossible to have a conversation with the people I was dining with."

  • "Went because a colleague noted it was the only Mexican restaurant his wife, a native of Mexico, would eat at. Food was good and reasonably priced. The busboy kept circling the table, stopping by 5 or 6 times. We were still eating, and he could not just leave us alone. The restaurant was not that busyj they did not need the table. The server was perfunctory in his descriptions, having said it so many times, and talking so fast, it meant nothing to him or us. Unfortunately, won't be going back."
    Dined on 7/8/2014
  • "Would recommend with some hesitation. Food is good, service is decent. But -- the restaurant is small and cramped for space, leading to crowded dining conditions. Partly as a result, the restaurants noise level is also MUCH too loud."
    Dined on 7/7/2014
  • "We had excellent service and a memorable dining experience. The food was delicious and we loved trying different cocktails. We had a group of 5 and shared a trio of guacamole, flautas, tacos de camaron, tacos de pollo, tacos de carne, and then churros and bread pudding for dessert. We enjoyed everything and had a great time! Special thanks to Rafael, our server, who recommended great items and talked tequila with us, and Manny, the manager, who made time to ask how our meal was and show us the downstairs space, Double A. Gracias a todos y hasta pronto !"

  • "Really enjoyed this restaurant; we thought it was much better than Frontera Grill. Food was innovative and delicious; wait staff was very attentive; and the interior was very comfortable and urbane tho a bit loud."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "Mercadito is part of the trend toward contemporary Mexican restaurants which replace the free chips & salsa with a more innovative menu and a modern decor. I had the steak tacos. The meat was good, but the potatoes didn't really fit with the rest of the dish."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "Finally deviated from my fave Tacos de Huevo and it was so worth it. Huevos Rancheros are a must-try at brunch. My companions went pretty American with their pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon, but were pleased. Love this place, not sure why it took me so many years to try it for brunch!"
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "The service was not friendly and the food was average at best. The shrimp tacos was drowned in sauce, the lobster tacos had too much breading. The swordfish and shrimp enchiladas were good. The margaritas were very good."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "The food is great as always but our waitor seemed to be abrupt and a bit slower than the usual at mercadito"
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "Service on the patio was good and the tacos were excellent."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "Beautiful restaurant. Food was pretty good. The tacos were a bit pricey for what you receive. The bacon guacamole was delish."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "We were in the mood for Mexican before heading to a show at the Goodman and decided to try Mercadito. Definitely interesting food, inventive cocktails, and a great atmosphere. However, if you're in the mood for super traditional Mexican food not the best (and far from the cheapest) choice. I'd probably go there again for drinks and guacamole but don't think I'd stay for dinner."
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "Too loud. Meals came out at different times for members of our group."
