Diner Reviews
  • "Went because a colleague noted it was the only Mexican restaurant his wife, a native of Mexico, would eat at. Food was good and reasonably priced. The busboy kept circling the table, stopping by 5 or 6 times. We were still eating, and he could not just leave us alone. The restaurant was not that busyj they did not need the table. The server was perfunctory in his descriptions, having said it so many times, and talking so fast, it meant nothing to him or us. Unfortunately, won't be going back."

  • "Would recommend with some hesitation. Food is good, service is decent. But -- the restaurant is small and cramped for space, leading to crowded dining conditions. Partly as a result, the restaurants noise level is also MUCH too loud."

  • "The food is great as always but our waitor seemed to be abrupt and a bit slower than the usual at mercadito"

  • "Finally deviated from my fave Tacos de Huevo and it was so worth it. Huevos Rancheros are a must-try at brunch. My companions went pretty American with their pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon, but were pleased. Love this place, not sure why it took me so many years to try it for brunch!"

  • "We had excellent service and a memorable dining experience. The food was delicious and we loved trying different cocktails. We had a group of 5 and shared a trio of guacamole, flautas, tacos de camaron, tacos de pollo, tacos de carne, and then churros and bread pudding for dessert. We enjoyed everything and had a great time! Special thanks to Rafael, our server, who recommended great items and talked tequila with us, and Manny, the manager, who made time to ask how our meal was and show us the downstairs space, Double A. Gracias a todos y hasta pronto !"

  • "Mercadito is part of the trend toward contemporary Mexican restaurants which replace the free chips & salsa with a more innovative menu and a modern decor. I had the steak tacos. The meat was good, but the potatoes didn't really fit with the rest of the dish."

  • "Beautiful restaurant. Food was pretty good. The tacos were a bit pricey for what you receive. The bacon guacamole was delish."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "The service was not friendly and the food was average at best. The shrimp tacos was drowned in sauce, the lobster tacos had too much breading. The swordfish and shrimp enchiladas were good. The margaritas were very good."

  • "We were in the mood for Mexican before heading to a show at the Goodman and decided to try Mercadito. Definitely interesting food, inventive cocktails, and a great atmosphere. However, if you're in the mood for super traditional Mexican food not the best (and far from the cheapest) choice. I'd probably go there again for drinks and guacamole but don't think I'd stay for dinner."

  • "Food and drinks are both great here. Had a margarita and tacos along with chips and salsa"

  • "Great food and drinks, crowded and happening. The only complaint was the noise level, a little too much for my tastes. Would still recommend though, worth it."

  • "Still obsessed with the tacos de huevos but there were so many delicious things passing by I might have to try them next time! Companion had huevos rancheros and it was not only a fab twist on the dish it was gorgeous and delicious! Many thanks."

  • "Everything about Mercadito is wonderful.... the drinks, tacos and atmosphere! I love love the house margarita! The portions can be big so I recommend sharing the tacos. The fish tacos are a must try!"

  • "I had a great time here this weekend! I had the roasted corn on the cob, carne tacos, and my guy had the swordwish tacos both were seansoned extremely well! The drinks werw very very tasty too! We had the three trees which consisted of a tequila mixed with pear ginger amd spmething else tasty amd the famous cucumber drink! I cany wait to visit again. Great place to pregame before a party night!"

  • "street corn is good - but you can get some at 1/5 of the price if you go to ashland and division and your portion size will be double the size. everything else was mediocre and beyond overpriced. never eating here again. they need to stop charging for hot sauce when their food is flavorless. i would not recommend this place to you anyone."

  • "I love this place. Whether it is for brunch with my family or ladies' night with my girls, it is always a hit! The food is fantastic and the best in the city."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "My companions love love love Mercadito (as do I). We had brunch. The one drinking Bloody Marys said it was hands down the best in the city. We had shrimp tacos, tacos de huevos and swordfish tacos. They loved theirs (the fish) and the huevo taco is one of my favorite things anywhere. Mercadito is the brunch staple no one seems to know about! If you're up for low-key (the poser crowd stays away), deliciousness and great drinks with superb service, definitely give the Merc a try."

  • "Food was excellent. The ambience was very bad. Everyone was screaming at the table given the overall noise in the restaurant. Between the music being played very loud and tables trying to communicate with each other, one had to talk very loud. When we walked out, our entire group was relieved. This was too bad as the food was actually very good."

  • "This place has fantastic drinks, the food is really good, the portions are perfect (except for the salsas but they are delicious!) the staff is knowledgeable and very attentive. However... it is soooooo loud you simply cannot have a conversation but with the person next to you. We were a group of 6 friends trying to catch up and we simply couldn't hear eachother."

  • "It's basically a taco place. There were 3 of us - all women. We had two types of guacamole and 3 orders of tacos - shrimp, chicken and mushroom. Portions of guacamole were small. Tacos were just okay. I would not run back for more. The shrimp taco which our waiter recommended was not exciting at all - just shrimp in a sauce. Chicken had more veggies with it but not as exciting as I had expected based on the description. We asked for half the tacos in lettuce wraps which was good but the lettuce was not crisp so we had to use a knife and fork to cut it. They did have options for gluten free. Jicama instead of chips for the guacamole was nice. It's a hot spot but food is just ok. No need to return."

  • "The restaurant took a while to get our table together even though I had a reservation and got there early. Groups of 7 or more HAVE to use the sharing menu which offers TONS and TONS of food and options. It is a bit expensive and the drinks are out there but they are strong and worth the money! Our waiter was very attentive, helpful, and cute! Overall, it was pretty good!"

  • "Nice ambiance, cozy, all tables were full on Friday night. Had a drink a the bar and by the time we finished our drinks we were seated . Great Lobster tacos, over the margaritas with cucumber."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "Loud... Sat at a bad low lounge table almost sitting in floor..... Service and food were fine... Would go back at less busy time"
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "Best chips and margaritas ever! The chicken tacos were outstanding. My husband loved the mahi mahi tacos. Wouldn't order the shrimp tacos next time. They were tasty but just shrimp and sauce in tortillas. Other tacos had shredded veggies/slaw on top. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Food was super flavorful and fun atmosphere. Try the guacamole and salsas!"
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "Nice for larger groups. For groups over 7 people, you need to order off a different menu, but there is a lot of food and you are able to try different things!"
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "Lunch was delicious and the service was fast - we needed to get back to the Mart and we were able to eat in about 45 minutes! Food was as good as i remember from last year!"
    Dined on 6/9/2014
  • "Good food, but a bit pricey for Mexican. It's EXTREMELY loud inside, so be prepared for this type of atmosphere if you choose to go here. Tacos are delicious, but don't like that you can't mix and match among the options to create variety. Overall, really like this place when in the mood for this type of atmosphere."

  • "We made a res for 10 people & they lectured me about being on time or they'd give the table away (then they made us wait 35 mins to be seated), they made us do a sharing menu since we had 10 people, but then we heard you have the option to decline that, and overall they were just pretty "strict" leading up to the dinner. But overall food was good & drinks were fun & different. Cool place, but maybe not a good fit for groups. "

  • "Our waitress was great. My party was late and the hostess was very kind about sitting us and being very accommodating. Noise level wasn't bad at all like the reviews said so I was very happy. It was very chic and I loved the drinks. Great time overall."
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "The location of the restaurant couldn't be better. They have an interesting drinks menu worth trying. Guac wasn't the best, the salsa was better. Food is delicious with a good variety. Noise level is too high. I'd consider this a great spot for Happy Hour or group dinners."

  • "The tacos were amazing! Fresh guac & chips. We has Carne and Pastor - so good. Will go back soon."
