This was a nice, quiet place to have a good meal and talk. The chairs are comfortable, the lighting is good, the noise level allows for conversation at a normal voice level without problem, and the food was quite good. My dinner (black cod) was perfectly cooked and on an interesting bed of veggies and rice cake, but the overall flavor was still a bit bland. I added some salt to get some more flavor out of it, but shouldn't have needed to.

We have been Menlo Grill fans for years. New brunch menu, and the lousy service we received on Sunday caused me to cancel another engagement here, we will NOT return unless things are revised. Food was mediocre & too pricy. A 1/2 waffle with a very small piece of chicken was $18! A fruit plate with 10 small bites was $8. Service was AWFUL. Asked for lemon FIVE TIMES and finally went to the bar to get it ourselves. No one seemed invested, the food was depressing, there was NO sense of pricing matching the food - and the taste was so boring! What happened Menlo Grill? Bring back the original menu, and get your staff invested in being there to earn their 18% added tip.

I've eaten at the Menlo Grill many times, but yesterday's lunch was exceptional. I just had a chicken caesar salad. What can a restaurant do to make that stand out? Seriously. Well, the Menlo Grill succeeded with a perfectly cooked grilled breast and whole leaf romaine that was lightly and deliciously dressed. The inclusion of white anchovies (which I happen to like) was an added touch that worked surprisingly well with the chicken. The dishes that those with me at the business lunch looked equally good. Bravo!

When I reserved for five on Thursday for Saturday, I requested patio seating. I called Friday to confirm patio but said it was booked by a group. I was not happy they hadn't notified me so they gave ma a nice, semi-private room.

We've been coming here since the restaurant opened as the Duck Club. The food has always been quite good and about 2 years ago, the service improved dramatically. This latest dining experience however was quite strange. The medium rare rack of lamb arrived medium well and the cod's crispy skin was soggy. I had ordered fries instead of fingerling potatoes with my salmon. After I poked my fork into the potatoes to ascertain they were actually potatoes, I called the waiter over to ask about my bistro fries. He grabbed my dish, took it to the kitchen and then brought it back without the fingerlings, leaving me to question what the kitchen planned to do with those returned potatoes. I've never seen this done in a restaurant.

We enjoyed the ample Cobb salads with excellent selection of traditional Cobb ingredients and fresh, fresh lettuce. Our server was helpful with menu choices and his timing was excellent. A very nice evening at the Menlo Grill. The restaurant is attractive and comfortable with just the right amount of space between tables. The night we were there it was crowded but not too noisy. We requested a quiet table and they were able to accommodate our request. The food was delicious but the service was a bit slow.

We returned here after a long absence to find the food good but certain things lacking. The service was superb which is a vast improvement. Our appetizers and main courses were quite good but the desserts were awful . Our server removed the charge for them. We had the sea bass and the porc chop. The desserts were the beignet (a rock-hard ball of dough deep-fried in oil which tasted of other foods) and ice cream sandwiches made of cookies so hard the ice cream squirted out from between them with any attempt to eat them.

Shockingly poor service, an ignorant wine sommelier and nearly a ruined bottle of very premium wine we brought - no wonder there is no corkage fee. Sea bass entre was very good, New York steak wasn't a steak at all. The wait service seemed totally confused - maybe they're the incoming class at Stanford. Never even received water! Just when we thought it couldn't be any worse, we had breakfast here as we'll only to wait for half an hour to get water (we asked for it, again....). As we started to leave (no service whatsoever) a waiter appeared. Long story short, food orders mixed up - but somehow they managed to fill our water glasses again. Seemed to be so promising. Just a hotel restaurant, and poor at that - run by kids.

We had lunch in the patio and it was lovely. I'm hearing impaired and it was quiet in the patio and I could hear. My husband was happy with his hamburger. I was disappointed in the fish tacos. The fish was a tad dry and the taste too mild. I asked for some sauce and tabasco. It should be served with salsa. The fries were the big disappointment -- they were undercooked and stuck together. We shall go again because of the lovely setting and I'll try the hamburger. Haven't been there for dinner, but breakfast in the dining room is great.

Food was delicious from appetizer to dessert. Our appetizers were the heirloom tomato salad, fried calamari and flatbread with tomatoes and basil. Entrees were the sea bass, prime rib, pork chops and the burger. Dessert was the cheesecake, soft serve ice cream and beignets. Everything we ate was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was attentitive but did not hover. Atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. Wonderful food, great service and a peaceful place to dine at leisure.

Last night we hosted a business dinner here. Originally, we were going to dine at Il Fornaio, but due to it's noise and $20 corkage fee, we switched at the last minute to the Menlo Grill in the Stanford Park Hotel. It worked out very nice and everyone commented on how good the food and venue was.

being inside the Stanford Hotel I expected to have a very pleasant breakfast with my wife for her birthday. FAR FROM IT!!!! We had to hunt down waitress to get my wife's omelet remade because first one was overcooked. My over-easy eggs had yokes broken and way over cooked and the grilled ham, which i had to send waitress back for because she forgot, was burned and could taste flavor of other foods. We needed to get new silverware due to first set not clean. Finding the waitress was a challenge! No one came back to see if we needed or wanted more water. Then I find to they did not even check me in at front counter for Open Table. I had to confirm my reservation. For what I thought would be a quality place I was totally disappointed!

Delightful dining -- we ate on the patio and they do provide heaters if needed. There are also beautiful fire pits to gather around. Food was scrumptious and we will definitely return for more. Cocktails and wine were a bit pricey, but we were pleasantly surprised to find they don't charge a corkage fee. The service was quite a bit slow and we were not sure if it was due to having an apparently new waiter or because we were dining outside.

We had one of the best meals we've had last recently last Saturday evening. The dining room is comfortable, quiet enough to hear. The servers work hard to please but are not intrusive. The food was outstanding and delicious. One of had the short rib special, the other the sea bass. Flavors were diverse, well seasoned. Highly recommend if you can't get into Flea Street.

We hosted two elderly relatives for Sunday brunch recently in the beautiful courtyard. The food was mediocre-- how average can eggs & toast be...although father enjoyed his salad. We had to search down help for pepper, more coffee, iced tea, request everything except water which was kept filled. each element of what should be routine was not. Staff were pleasant-- perhaps not enough or training issue.

Lovely to sit outside. I really want this place to succeed and coe often but the flat bread was undercooked, as was the partly raw chicken in Cobb Salad. There was no dressing the one salad. Ingredients were excellent. This sloppiness is running the place. We were comped for those dishes but that is not the point. I hope they will shape up soon.

A group of four work related friends were to meet from 4 different locations for lunch. I knew nothing about MG when I made the reservation, but, it seemed to be relatively easy to get to and a quick look at the menu online made me feel that there was something for everyone in our group. As we arrived, one friend said she had been interested in trying and just hadn't been there yet. As we left, we all agreed that it was a place we would come back to for the wonderful setting and service and the tasty food.

In the middle of the courtyard dinner, one of our guests said,"The service staff needs training." We had to ask for water, then bread, then refills on drinks from the bar, then refills on water (never came), then asked for a waiter to order our dinner, then a heat lamp (asked 3 different people), then steak knives. The broccolini was served late and cold, bread was not refilled (given a small basket for 4 people), and the Gran Marnier on the side with the dessert never arrived. By then we gave up trying to fix the dinner service. Service has always been slow here while sitting in the courtyard, but please buff up the service to approximate the grand ambience. Otherwise, patrons must avoid embarassment by not inviting guests.
