Diner Reviews
  • "I would not go again, i would prefer going to a deli. Would not recommend this place to anyone"

  • "I had the California Omelet which had crab in every bite. The service was pleasantly relaxed, and the view of the courtyard added to our pleasure. We come here often and have never been disappointed."

  • "The food and setting are wonderful. I shall plan to make many more dinner plans here."

  • "Our group was impressed at the excellent service we had, the lovely decor and ambience, as well as the sense of privacy. We were grateful for the quiet noise level where we could hear each other speak."

  • "The service was great. The food was good though lacking in much flavor."

  • "I am dining here every few weeks and the reason is great food in a wonderful setting."

  • "Had a very enjoyable brunch at the Menlo Grill. We were promptly greeted and seated. Our server was attentive and very courteous. They offer nice breakfast options and the homemade donuts were very good. Fresh, crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. We both had egg dishes (frittata and California omelet) and both dishes were flavorful and fresh."

  • "Delightful dining -- we ate on the patio and they do provide heaters if needed. There are also beautiful fire pits to gather around. Food was scrumptious and we will definitely return for more. Cocktails and wine were a bit pricey, but we were pleasantly surprised to find they don't charge a corkage fee. The service was quite a bit slow and we were not sure if it was due to having an apparently new waiter or because we were dining outside."

  • "We had one of the best meals we've had last recently last Saturday evening. The dining room is comfortable, quiet enough to hear. The servers work hard to please but are not intrusive. The food was outstanding and delicious. One of had the short rib special, the other the sea bass. Flavors were diverse, well seasoned. Highly recommend if you can't get into Flea Street."

  • "Not greeted well. They blew the order. They try to make it right by removing my dinner from the check. My wife's flatbread was not up to par. They've done better in the past. I hope they improve since we like the location."

  • "We hosted two elderly relatives for Sunday brunch recently in the beautiful courtyard. The food was mediocre-- how average can eggs & toast be...although father enjoyed his salad. We had to search down help for pepper, more coffee, iced tea, request everything except water which was kept filled. each element of what should be routine was not. Staff were pleasant-- perhaps not enough or training issue."

  • "Lovely to sit outside. I really want this place to succeed and coe often but the flat bread was undercooked, as was the partly raw chicken in Cobb Salad. There was no dressing the one salad. Ingredients were excellent. This sloppiness is running the place. We were comped for those dishes but that is not the point. I hope they will shape up soon."

  • "A group of four work related friends were to meet from 4 different locations for lunch. I knew nothing about MG when I made the reservation, but, it seemed to be relatively easy to get to and a quick look at the menu online made me feel that there was something for everyone in our group. As we arrived, one friend said she had been interested in trying and just hadn't been there yet. As we left, we all agreed that it was a place we would come back to for the wonderful setting and service and the tasty food."

  • "In the middle of the courtyard dinner, one of our guests said,"The service staff needs training." We had to ask for water, then bread, then refills on drinks from the bar, then refills on water (never came), then asked for a waiter to order our dinner, then a heat lamp (asked 3 different people), then steak knives. The broccolini was served late and cold, bread was not refilled (given a small basket for 4 people), and the Gran Marnier on the side with the dessert never arrived. By then we gave up trying to fix the dinner service. Service has always been slow here while sitting in the courtyard, but please buff up the service to approximate the grand ambience. Otherwise, patrons must avoid embarassment by not inviting guests."

  • "I have been to the Menlo Grill a few times and always enjoy their peaceful setting which, while close to downtown Palo Alto, seems far from the madding crowd. This time I discovered their courtyard, where they serve dinner on summer nights. Their courtyard has trees and a nice amount of space between tables so you can have a private conversation. Wonderful ambiance. Delicious food."

  • "The Menlo Grill is a lovely environment inside the Stanford Court Hotel. The food was good but the service was less than par. While there were plenty of servers to be constantly seen roaming the rooms, no one came to ask if we needed refills of coffee or juice. I found it quite odd that while they walked around and were visible, no one noticed our empty cups. The Grill needs a conscientious manager who is detail oriented to train the employees."

  • "This is quickly becoming my favorite restaurant in my area. The food is wonderful and nicely presented. I shall return many times."

  • "Food, service and ambience fine for having a business lunch in a relaxed atmosphere."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "My Ruben Sandwich was great. The fries were a bit oily, and they used to be crisp. But dining in the beutiful courtyard made up for the fries and then some."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "The miso-glazed Chilean seabass is the best fish dish I've had in years. My friends were thrilled with their Bistro Burgers and peerless pork chops. The restaurant was very busy but not too noisy for conversation. Afterwards we enjoyed coffee in the courtyard by the brick firepits. Really nice place to spend an evening."

  • "It is always good. Will return over and over. The food is tasty and the ambience is excellent. I'll be back!"

  • "Nice menu - service was a bit slow due to some large groups and a big outdoor event. Bar service was very good."
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "I booked my reservation throughout open table, but for some reason the reservation confirmation back from the restaurant said "no dining points"...which is disappointing."
    Dined on 6/6/2014
  • "This is our favorite neighborhood location. Always good food, attentive staff. Managers that make sure you are taken care of. Outdoor dining in the summer with two large fire pits for after dinner relaxation, or perhaps dessert!"

  • "What else can I say. Unbelievable meal. At first was a bit intimitated by menu but when I got into it there were amazing choices. The blend of flavors were supperb. Chilean Sea Bass out of this world and I dont like fish! Simply amazing. "

  • " Lunch at Menlo Grill Bistro & Bar was very good, as my party and I enjoyed the Caesar salad, cheeseburger with bacon, and mahi mahi tacos. Each item was very tasty and the waiter was most attentive to our needs. Prices are reasonable, and it is particularly nice that one can choose the number of tacos desired as well as the size of the salad. Menlo Grill is an excellent choice for lunch when in the Menlo Park or near the Stanford Shopping Center."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised to find such a great spot for breakfast. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We will definitely return! "

  • "The seabass and the lamb shank are great. Service is great. "
    Dined on 5/22/2014
  • "The service was very good but the food all came "luke warm". We ordered 2 caesar salads to split 3 way and the portion was way to small. We could not believe it. "

  • "I've been to the Menlo Grill several times and have never had a bad experience. Same thing Monday night; my Mom and her friend met me for dinner and we had a fantastic evening. Service was flawless thanks to Tommy, our Server, and the food was delicious. Everything was delicious and the ingredients were clearly fresh. I'm sure we'll be back again...and again...and again. "

  • "We came here for breakfast on Mother's Day. I was given a complementary mimosa. We used the breakfast menu. The Denver omelet was very good, and the amount of food was right, split between me and my son. My daughter got the huevos rancheros, and it was good, with fresh avocado and an especially light corn tortilla. The food was well-prepared, good quality, good quantity, while not excessive in amount. Since we had to wait about 15 minutes for our table to be ready, the manager gave us a free dessert. We got the bread pudding, which was large and delicious. The wait was pleasant, since we sat by the fireplace in their nicely decorated hotel lobby. Service was friendly and accommodating. I look forward to returning."

  • "The food is excellent the staff is friendly and the facility is in a perfect location on the border of Menlo Park and Palo Alto!"
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "Always enjoyed the quiet setting and great food. Since remodeling, the bar/dining area is too loud for conversation. Consequently, shouting patrons. Dining room was better, yet noise issue needs addressing. Fabulous food, but disappointing service. Never checked for water. Forgot my friend's birthday, despite telling both hostesses. Real bummer when dessert presented without a word or a candle."

  • "we were not aware that Saturday was brunch only..very disappointed in the menu. the food was not prepared well..the service minimal..what's going on there! Nice place, fairly quiet..should be much better. this was especial event honoring the teacher we support in East Palo Alto…."
    Dined on 5/3/2014
  • "Sea bass was good, though sauce a little too sweet and overwhelming. Lamb was overdone and dry. Service was pleasant but somewhat inattentive. Most diners were older and not boisterous, yet noise level was rather high. Ambience was nothing remarkable. It's trying to be something special, but not there yet. "

  • "The view at the windows by the courtyard is fine, but courtyard seating is still a few weeks off (about middle of May). The only reason the food isn't 5 stars is because I only had a sandwich and fries. They were top notch though. This remains one of my favorites"
    Dined on 4/30/2014
  • "Food is always excellent. Service good to great. We like to sit in the bar, but the main dining room is very nice. No corkage fee! Wish the menu was a bit more diverse, but I never have trouble finding something great."

  • "We have been to Menlo Grill several times now and have been consistently happy with the food, drinks, and service. The staff are very attentive but not intrusive. The restaurant is quiet enough that you can enjoy a nice conversation. The menu has a nice variety, and there are usually a few specials too. They have a full bar and a good cocktail and wine list. My favorite item is the mud pie for dessert. It is excellent. "
