Have wanted to try this placeHave wanted to try this place for years and wish I had gone earlier! Really a great surprise with great food and service. Paying the tab was a bit awkward as the waiter had trouble grasping the 2/3rds on this card, 1/3rd on the other card, but all in all a great dining experience.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFor those who appreciate oldFor those who appreciate old school upscale dining. Dress up a bit. Make it special. Take a slow night, the staff doesn't rush you. Your guest will thank you.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMQuiet, romantic old world charmWe were greeted by well dressed suited gentleman, who showed us to our patio table. Food selection was varied, they cooked the steak table side and to perfection. Service was exceptional, with waiters all within sight to call on. Desserts flambé table side and were excellent. Will be returning for special nights.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWay "old school," but in aWay "old school," but in a great way. Old-fashioned service, meaning polite and attentive, but not overly so. And the food, largely hit and miss. I had a mediocre lobster cocktail, and my wife's crabcakes were probably not quite even mediocre. But the "steak Diane," served tableside, was brilliant.
Mainy though, you come for the retro ambiance, which is straight out of 1970's Palm Springs. If that's not your thing, then this is not your place.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMMelvyns - Taste of Old Palm SpringsWe went to Melvyn's for our 30th anniversary dinner last Saturday, and it was wonderful in every way. Melvyn's is at the Ingleside Inn, a quaint and historic small hotel in a beautiful old Spanish-style building, built in 1922. Mel Haber bought the hotel and restaurant in 1974 and is still there today - a very friendly host. The waiters were friendly and attentive - service was excellent! I had the Steak Diane prepared tableside -- it was sooo good - literally melted in my mouth. My husband had the "Veal Ingleside" - their signature veal. He enjoyed it - very flavorful and prepared perfectly. I had a little taste, too - it was delicious. I would highly recommend Melvyn's for a special occasion. Wonderful food, service & ambience.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMHistoryGreat place to re live some of the old days gone by, the staff took time time to share the history of this Gem.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day TreatOne of the best places to take that special person for Mother's Day. Excellent dining experience-as always at Melvyn's.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous find in Old Palm SpringsOld school excellence. Our Caesar salads were prepared table-side as was the Steak Diane and Fettuccini. My escargot with puff pastry and served in a ramekin with walnuts was also outstanding.
Dinner was so good the first night, we came the next night for a late dinner at the bar of pork sliders with sweet-potato fries.
Luckily for us, Melvyn's is part of the Ingleside Inn, where we're staying of the week, so we'll probably return on Wed. to hear the local, retired professionals perform during open-mike night.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways old time elegance...menuAlways old time elegance...menu and service right out of the sixties. Lots of interesting people watching.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMI wanted a classic midcentury/timelI wanted a classic midcentury/timeless dining experience for a family gathering. Melvyn's was PERFECT! from the martinis to the Oysters Rockefeller to the professional, tuxedo'd waiters, the extensive wine list, the soup-or-salad and vegetable and potato served with the entrees, and of course the flambe'd desserts, it was an ideal place for our party. Sole piccata and pefectly cooked steak pleased my party, and we worked off a few calories on the dance floor, too! The next time I am there I will have one of the pot pies....3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMmore than a nostalgia trip...goodmore than a nostalgia trip...good food, nice atmosphere, and great service...
