Food selection was varied, they cooked the steak table side and to perfection. Service was exceptional, with waiters all within sight to call on. Desserts flambé table side and were excellent. And the food, largely hit and miss. I had a mediocre lobster cocktail, and my wife's crabcakes were probably not quite even mediocre. But the "steak Diane," served tableside, was brilliant.
Mainy though, you come for the retro ambiance, which is straight out of 1970's Palm Springs. If that's not your thing, then this is not your place.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMMelvyns - Taste of Old Palm SpringsWe went to Melvyn's for our 30th anniversary dinner last Saturday, and it was wonderful in every way. Melvyn's is at the Ingleside Inn, a quaint and historic small hotel in a beautiful old Spanish-style building, built in 1922. Mel Haber bought the hotel and restaurant in 1974 and is still there today - a very friendly host. The waiters were friendly and attentive - service was excellent! I had the Steak Diane prepared tableside -- it was sooo good - literally melted in my mouth. My husband had the "Veal Ingleside" - their signature veal. He enjoyed it - very flavorful and prepared perfectly. I had a little taste, too - it was delicious. I would highly recommend Melvyn's for a special occasion. Our Caesar salads were prepared table-side as was the Steak Diane and Fettuccini. My escargot with puff pastry and served in a ramekin with walnuts was also outstanding.
Dinner was so good the first night, we came the next night for a late dinner at the bar of pork sliders with sweet-potato fries.

Melvyn's was PERFECT! from the martinis to the Oysters Rockefeller to the professional, tuxedo'd waiters, the extensive wine list, the soup-or-salad and vegetable and potato served with the entrees, and of course the flambe'd desserts, it was an ideal place for our party. Sole piccata and pefectly cooked steak pleased my party, and we worked off a few calories on the dance floor, too!
