Diner Reviews
  • "We were located into a completely segregated room, as inmates. We did not feel the atmosphere. And we paid the same prices."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "Excellent service. Food was only good. Nothing really stands out. Cooked with competence but nothing more."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "Flawless! There us no other word to describe this dining experience."

  • "It's the best restaurant in the world to have a proper dinner, the food could not be better, the ambience as well, the service efficient, discrete, friendly, not pushy at all, as if you were the only guest at the place, nothing to regret only celebrate that We went there"

  • "Food was fantastic and I have been blessed to eat at some of the best restaurants in the World. The service on the other hand while not bad was not up to par. The courses came out without any flow. I had to ask to have the dishes cleared between courses. I requested coffee at the end and it never came. I ordered and after dinner drink and they came back and said they could not find it though it was a full paragraph in the menu. That being said I would give it another go just because of the food."

  • "I've taken my husband here several times for his birthday. The service and cuisine are always exceptional. This is a very special restaurant. Our favorite in Los Angeles."

  • "Melisse was more than a restaurant to enjoy a one of a kind meal. The staff were next to none in their friendly attitude, excitement for their jobs and knowledge about the food they so adeptly served. I am spoiled forever more by our delightful experience there."

  • "Melisse is the perfect setting for any memorable occasion. Just close your eyes to the bill."

  • "Having had many tasting menus in the past, Melisse did not disappoint. From the moment we sat down Douglas our captain made us feel at home. He provided thoughtful suggestions and we really appreciated that he was not pushy with the beverages as you will find in similar establishments. The beef tartar was some of the best I have had in my life, the Dover sole outstanding, and everything else just blended perfectly. One of the best meals we have had not just in LA but in all of our dining experiences. Well done!"

  • "This is one of the best restaurants that I have ever been to. The wait staff is highly professional; the Sommelier is a great guy who gave us great advice and was very sensitive to our needs and value. The food is exceptional and the staff was great in explaining each of the items that we ordered. We were celebrating a business success and they made it a memorable evening for us."

  • "This place has the whole package with service and dining. I've been to a few Michelin rated restaurants and this was easily near the top. We'll be back."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "Really special food. A few of the meat dishes were disappointing and we sent back and they remedied. Otherwise, EXTRAORDINARY."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "After seven visits to Melisse over a decade, usually for special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries, my wife and I had a recent stinker of a visit. We had the ten-course prix fixe, which lasted four hours – not however due to the extensiveness of the menu, but rather the utter collapse of service for the last five to six courses. 20 to 25 minutes passed between courses, and there were 15 minute periods when we didn't see a single waiter at all, while they bustled around at other tables. At a restaurant where the prix fixe with wine costs $300-350 a person at night's end, one can simply not take risks like this. Had we been testers for Michelin, we would have removed not one, but both stars."

  • "We chose Melisse to celebrate our 28 wedding anniversary. After reviewing the menu we chose the 10 for our meal. Every course was awesome and delicious from the egg caviar to dessert."

  • "We booked this for my wife's birthday. It was an amazing experience. The food was better than many similar rated restaurants. The service was exemplary . The ambiance perfect. This is not a budget experience but worth every dollar. The staff were dedicated to ensuring you had a wonderful evening. The wine is worth exploring, great choice and advice on hand."

  • "The food was at a different level and the service was second to none. Highly recommended."

  • "Melissa is in my estimation the finest restaurant in Los Angeles and continues to get better! I have had intimate dinners, business dinners and large groups of people there and everyone who dines there wants to come back. The staff treats you like you own the place and makes you part of the "Melisse family". Once you have been there you'll be back....."

  • "Definition of 5 star achieved here. Amazing food & service experience was well worth the drive from OC."
    Dined on 6/6/2014
  • "It is at the upper end of the price spectrum, but for the most part you get what you pay for. The tasting menu was great, but the extra $95 for a very small dish of truffle risotto was a bit of a rip-off."
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "Our tasting menus, one veg, one regular, included some truly exquisite dishes, and our wine was wonderful. But the service was rather crass instead of class (too many greetings, too many explanations of each dish and how to eat it, and our waiter kept putting his arm on the female server, who ignored him). Overall experience was not up to our expectations of a Michelin restaurant. We suggest they work on less obtrusive service, more relaxed pacing of the meal, and less salt in the food."

  • "Melisse continues to be a classy, high end (and expensive) dining experience. This is where to go when you want to celebrate with great food and outstanding service. Every course was creative and excellent. "

  • "We arrived about 10 minutes early and were seated right away. From the first pour of the sparkling water to the final desert, several, the wait staff was phenomenal and the food was exceptional. I highly recommend for couples to go there"

  • "Disappointed. $25.00 extra chg. for soft boiled egg w/sm. tad of caviar...rather tasteless for a signiture dish. Steak tartare was very good and the bit of lobster w/pasta was tasty. All in all the price was not worth it. "

  • "I treated my husband to this wonderful dinner for his birthday. We chose to do the 4-course tasting menu. It was the best dinner we've had in So Cal. I started with the egg caviar, then onto the lobster bolognese, followed by the flat iron steak and finished with a cheese course. It was all so amazing. My husband started with the same, followed by the fish selection of the day, bass. The aged Liberty Duck was his 3rd course and he finished with Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate!! Every bite was worthy of savor! All the flavors were present & defined & yet blended so well. They sent us home with 3 decadent chocolate truffles as a birthday treat. Megan was our server and she, like everyone else who serviced our table, were lovely!"

  • "It's been a while since we dined here. We decided to come for our 15th year anniversary and we are so glad we did! We ordered the 10 course tasting and our server, Matthew paired a wines with the meal! What a yummy and memorable meal!! The egg caviar is a must, the soup is another must - actually - it was ALL good! We will be back!"

  • "The tasting menu (10) lives up to its reputation. I was there a few years ago and was not disappointed as the experience remained the same as did the price! The only reason service got 4 stars is because I recently dined at L2O in Chicago and they had three people hanging around waiting to help you with anything you wanted. I would actually give service 4.5 stars if that was possible.I must add I paid twice as much at L2O for three people as I did for two at Melisse."

  • "Service was impeccable but, given the price, the food is not worth it. It was ok but not great. A little bit pretentious... "
    Dined on 4/15/2014
  • "I have been here several times in the last seventeen years and some things do not change. Josiah Citron is there and attentive. The quality of food improves from excellent to very excellent. Service could not be better. One of my guests has a food allergy and staff worked to change dishes."
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "Might be the best meal I've ever had. Service was Extraordinary. Gregory was the Best. VERY pricey, but worth it for a special occasion."
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "The sommelier was wonderful and matched our preferences perfectly. The Rose was unbelievably good (Thanks Chris) and I will certainly return, but with trepidation towards the vegetarian menu restrictions. 2 Big negatives for an $800 dinner. Our waiter was terribly dry, uninteresting, and did not help us make our selections. Honestly, he was a turn off to our experience. 2) The vegetarian menu did not allow for any substitutions. Unfortunately, there was something we wanted from the 10 course, something seemingly simple, that we could not swap for on our tasting menu. And, what made that worse was the unexpected focus on mushrooms and rice in the vegetarian menu. Both of those were hug turnoffs for an $800 dining experience."

  • "unfortunately the service was terrible and the food disappointing"
    Dined on 4/8/2014
  • "The quality of food is great. Very fresh. But somehow the main course is just too much for me. I mean the taste. too heavy for my palette. Then the chocolate is also too sweet for me. But then the second desert (sorbet) was very refreshing and definitely save my night. Overall, the whole dining experience was very nice. I enjoyed a lot. Love the bread, by the way."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Dinner for 2. We had Wagyu Beef Tartare and Lobster Bolognese as first and second courses. They are both good but to me, the taste seems a little bit repeat. So I would suggest order others as first course if you want to try Lobster Bolognese. For entrees, we had Flat Iron Steak and Aged Liberty Duck. Both of them are amazing. Desserts are Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate and Strawberry. they will never lets you down. I was actually kind of full after I finish half of the Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate but I could not stop eating the rest of it. Definitely worth the price and 1 hour driving. I would like to invite my friends and family to Melisse in the future."

  • "Last time I was at Melisse it was a pretentious, not very good new French restaurant, but that was 15 years ago. Now the decor is current the staff friendly and knowledgeable and the food was first class. My only disappointment was that it took a degree in logic to figure out the menu. Also although I understand the need to charge what they charge, the amount of food was too much and therefore wasteful. One should revisit the menus and offer an a la carte menus where a diner can just get a couple of courses for the great tastes but not have to eat four courses. That is the only thing that would keep me from returning"
