A word from Melisse

It's confirmed Chefs across the state are coming together to fight the ban on foie gras. Melisse will host the Foie Gras event on Monday, May 14, 2012, seating starts at 5:30, featuring Chefs from Southern CA Josiah Citrin, Raphael Lunetta, Brendan Collins and Northern CA Mark Dommen, Justin… Wangler, Hiro Sone and Lissa Douman. These chefs will create a 6-course menu for $200.00 (includes wine, tax and gratuity.) A portion of the proceeds will go to C.H.E.F.S. Tickets are available on eventbrite.com, this evening should not be missed! Help us say yes to foie and no to the California lawmakers. Melisse is both a two Michelin Star Award winning restaurant and the recipient of Zagats highly coveted number one rated restaurant in Los Angeles since 2003. "A wonderful set of various tasting menus that were truly excellent. Not necessarily the most inventive Michelin starred restaurant but certainly the execution was nearly flawless. The sashimi dish didn't use great fish, but the other items on the 10 course tasting menus ranged from excellent to amazing. The ambiance is refined and the service is polished. Loved the champagne by the glass choices."

"Amazing food, right down to bread and butter. Very good service. Large wine selection. Booth seatings are nice. Spent almost 4 hours there for the TEN course menu. Corkage fee $30. Would dine here again."

"The food at this restaurant is inventive and fresh - absolutely fine, fine dining. The tasting menus have lots of variety. The vegetable salad was superb - composed of unusual vegetables mixed in with more everyday veggies. The presentation was lovely. If you manage to get there during the start of Spring when morels, white asparagus and ramps are in season, you are in luck as the chef makes the most of these delicacies. The only negative was the waiter -a bit pushy for my liking, disregarding requests for options he saw better suited. We are not novices at fine dining, but we chose to exercise restraint rather than to take him to task. All in all a wonderful experience in a beautiful dining room. We would recommend it."

"The food was prepared well and tasted great. The booths are a little larger than normal so you have to lean in to have a romantic conversation. Small serving sizes, yet several courses are ordered throughout the evening. Our reservation was at 6:30 and we did not leave untill 9:45. Things were extremely slow when we were in Paris last summer,which was nice, and this place followed suite. My fiancé said that this was the best evening she had ever experienced. I attribute that statement to the resturant and to Hotel Oceana in Santa Monica."
