  • "This was my second time at Melange. I got the lamb both times and it was fantastic (even better the second time. I might have asked for it to be cooked medium-well the previous time, and medium this time around, but I don't remember). It was perfectly cooked, and the potatoes that came with it were also very tasty. We also ordered the vegetarian sushi, the melange salad, and samosas, all of which were very good. To be honest, the previous time we went, my girlfriend got a tuna steak that apparently wasn't that great, but they were really nice about it and took it off the check when they saw she barely ate half of it. Their desserts are also fantastic. The dessert-trio is a fantastic idea, and they are all very tasty."

  • "My wife, Roz, and I love Melange. Tonight's visit was a date night before heading to a comedy club--as always the food was fantastic. Roz went with the Thai Pasta and it is now her new favorite dish. I chose the short rib as an entree--best example of this dish that I've had in A2. The staff at Melange knows our tastes when it comes to wines, based on previous visits. We've never had a bad recommendation. For this reason we always allow them to pick our wine and it's always waiting for us when we arrive at our table. Between Chef Christopher running the kitchen and Laura running the front of the house, the two combine to bring a memorable evening for their guests who, frankly they treat like family. "

  • "Went for an early Saturday night dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it! Service was great, gave you rom to breathe - not too over the top and annoying as I find in some higher end restaurants. The beef rangoon appetzier was delicious, I had the sea bass for an entree and it was the best I have ever had. My husband had the beef shank which he enjoyed as well. Overall really excellent and would go back for a special occassion."

  • "Our second visit to this terrific place that hits everything right. From the backlit menus to fabulous service (kudos to Guy and the team) to an amazing effort by the mixologist to produce a memorable non-alcoholic cocktail, Melange has it all. The hot rock tuna boasted spectacular flavor and presentation. Sushi was creative and tasty. Even the cheese plate was special, with unusual crispy wafers and house made chutney. We often dine in downtown Chicago and have yet to eat better meals there than we do at Melange."

  • "My wife and I ate at this restaurant for the first time Saturday night. We had a reservation. When we showed up at approximately 6:00 P.M., there was no one else seated yet and no one waiting. The hostess seated us at a table next to another table which was very close. I aske dthe hostess if we could be seated in one of their much cozier and private booths for which she said "no," claiming that others soon would occupy those booths. We spent over an hour in the restaurant and only one of the booths was seated. This was definitely a turn-off. The food was good but not phenomenal at all. The service was outstanding."

  • "My OH and I dined here late on a Saturday night. Our server was excellent, though we were also tended to by two other servers during the meal, which was odd. Who are we tipping? We shared an American-style "sushi" roll, which was surprisingly good, and we both had the filet for our entree. The steak was excellent - perfectly cooked. The accompanying polenta was nice enough. The ratatouille was really herby and flavorful, but the vegetables were bordering on crunchy, which wasn't good. No prices on the beer or dessert menus, which is just odd. We didn't want to ask the server for the dessert prices (makes you feel cheap, even if you do plan on ordering), so we just got the check. Overall, good. We will return."

My party and I were celebrating birthdays and I frankly can't remember if we enjoyed ourselves or not as our server made us feel as though he had other important things to tend to. We were in and out like cattle being led pasture."

  • "Our dinner for four was excellent. Every morsel of food was consumed at the table. Entrees ranged from fish to filet. I had the scallops and enjoyed every bite. Appetizers were beautifully presented and the taste was perfect - samosas, duck nachos and a sushi roll. I love the concept of a small dessert and the creme brulee is a wonderful example. I could eat here once a week and not get tired of the food."

Every single girl loved the special martini our waitress insisted on, and everyone loved their food. Our waitress was wonderful and handled our "rowdy" bunch very well.   • "Our party of five unanimously enjoyed the food and ambiance of this restaurant. Cocktails were promptly brought to the table and everyone was dazzled by the chic modern decor, including the backlit menus.Very cool. Friendly but not overbearing service hit the mark. . But most important were the entrees...literally not a single morsel of food remained on our plates. Short ribs, fillet, scallops and sea bass were consumed to the delight of our party. The appetizers were good too...I had the crab cakes. We did not stay for dessert but my guess would be its good too. ."

  • "When we arrived on Valentine`s Day, a private party around the corner from our table was very loud. After a few uncomfortable minutes, a manager finally came to ask them to quiet down and the party dispersed. Also, we were promised candles, soft jazz from a band, could not hear any music what we did hear was piped in. All six candles were burnt out we sat trying to get someone`s attention to replace, didn`t get replaced until dessert. Our server was very distracted with friends was not as attentive as he should have been, and at the end of our dining, we noticed all the other tables received candy and choc. covered strawberries we did not . Friends of the server requested no candy or strawberries and received them anyway. Disappointed."

  • "My wife and I lived in Ann Arbor for several years before discovering Melange. My impression was that it was more of a bar scene. However, after going there on business I realized it was an excellent restaurant. We're originally from Louisiana where the food is an integral part of the culture. We don't expect much of the food in the Midwest (except for Chicago). In our opinion the food at Melange is the best in Ann Arbor. The cuisine is creative and there are tons of healthy options."

  • "Me and my girlfriend went here on Valentine's day. The live entertainment was enjoyable and so was the food. I had the scallops which were cooked perfectly. The sushi was okay. Nothing spectacular. Overall a good place to take a date."

  • "Upon arrival, we were seated as close to the kitchen as possible. Hostess said she couldn't move us, though empty tables throughout. As waitpersons bought out food from the kitchen,trays were poised directly over my wife's head. One of the poorest seating situations we have ever experienced. Having said that, the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant (from what we could tell from our perspective) was very nice. The food for the most part nicely done and served quickly. Appetizers: very tasty Our entrees:the scallops and duck were quite good. Would I go back to Melange? Yes, but not on a holiday or a busy Friday night. Would like to see if the above concerns were an anomaly related to Valentine's Day and not normal restaurant procedure."

  • "Melange was a perfect place for a perfect special occasion date. As parents of two young children, we find it hard to get out often but when we do, we like to have a romantic, ambient atmosphere with excellent food. Melange did just that. The food was very good, although I wouldn't say outstanding by any means. We enjoyed the atmosphere and never felt rushed by our very polite server. It was a very good experience and we will definitely come back and recommend it to friends."

Our service was superb -- the waitstaff was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Our food was great. I'm a vegetarian and appreciated their very tasty veggie fare."

  • "This is a jewel hidden underground ... despite the basement setting, it is warm and intimate ... the organic ambiance is quite commendable. We had a sweet booth and it had a nice vantage of a large swath of the establishment. My guest and I went as a part of Ann Arbor's Restaurant Week and noted that the offerings were regular menu items and did not appear to be downsized for the special event. We reviewed the novel "lighted menus" and decided to stick to the restaurant week offerings. The food was presented well and was delicious. The service was very knowledgeable and gracious - - truly first rate! No one in my party drinks alcohol, so I can't comment on that perspective of this establishment. I will plan to return."

  • "Went to AA to do some shopping and checked through Open Table for restaurants. We picked this one because of the interesting menu. We had the duck confit nachos appetizer and that was out of this world. My wife had the salmon which she claimed was one of the top 5 she had ever eaten. Done to perfection with a crispy exterior. I had the 4 cheese mac-n-cheese with chicken added. It was good, nothing spectacular which was a surprise with everything else they had. Definitely a place we would repeat"
