Melange - Ann ArborAnniversaryMy husband and I had our celebration dinner for our Anniversary here. Our daughter surprised us and reserved the Intimate Dining Room for us. We loved the quiet and romantic atmosphere. Our server was excellent and gave us just the right amount of attention, even dimming the lights for us after we read the menu. The complimentary champagne was such a nice touch.I loved the sablefish and my husband thought the halibut was prepared just right. This is one of our favorites, perhaps even better than Pacific Rim and Logan which both have great reputations. Some of us had the Restaurant Week menu but I had the Hot Rock appetizer and the lamb chops.The baramundi was exellent.
Even though we were in the "basement" it was elegant and romantic.The bar looked modern and had some TV's.
All the food was superb without beeing intimitating.The boys did not even take a glance at the tiger score.

We had a couple of food allergies and they dealt with them easily. We felt we were in good hands and thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the excellent meal. All have been wonderful. Never disappointed. The staff are always happy and helpful and seem as though they really enjoy working at Melange. Our best dining experience in Ann Arbor in the past few years. It is a special occasion restaurant so prices reflect this. Only one negative: we went on a Tuesday evening and a group of businessmen were at a table nearby and had no regard for the people around them. They were speaking loudly and freely using profanities. Great atmosphere and extremely pleasant wait staff. The food was delicious, I had the lamb and the sauce was exceptional and my partner had a very delicious piece of salmon. My complaints are that is the smallest glass of wine I have ever been served... why have a huge wine glass and then serve such a small serving? And having a 20% gratuity added to a party of 3 with no explanation is not reasonable. We had a relaxed and romantic evening. I had the salmon dish and my husband has the braised ribs - both were delicious. There were only about five tables occupied when we arrived but the bar was full and very active. Service was good as was most of the food, the only glitch was my daughter in laws short ribs were on the cool side but that was promptly rectified. The restaurant has nice ambiance and the bar area especially is sleek and sexy. The regular menu looks great with very interesting options; however, we just had to order again from the excellent sushi menu. Service was excellent as well. It was very dark and hard to read the menu but the staff have little lights to use until your eyes adjust to the lighting. The lighting felt romantic and intimate after our eyes adjusted and we all enjoyed ourselves. The service was great and the food delicious. The goat cheese ice cream was a tasty surprise. We had a wonderful dinner together. The sushi is some of the best in town and for desert we tried the sorbet/ice cream sampler. We were cutting it close for a movie we wanted to see but, in the end, we just decided to stay and enjoy ourselves rather than rush out. Service staff know how to pace the meal, and are not afraid to give an opinion about the menu. It is modern and dark, in a lower level. Parking is always an issue for Main St. restaurants. There are vegetarian entrees, as well as fish, beef, and poultry. There is something for everyone.
