Diner Reviews
  • "We had the Sushi Omakase at Megu and it was delicious! We were happy to sit at the bar and have the sushi chefs directly make our sushi and serve them to us! SO GOOD and we learned a lot about Sushi making!"

  • "We had the 7 course Price Fix and each course was better than the last. The presention was lovely and our server explained all to us. An amazing array of serving pieces and food"

  • "Great food....pricey though, dinner for 6 was $900.00, but well worth it. Great place for clients."

  • "The service here matches the quality of the food and drinks. I was previously here for my sister's birthday but came back with a pulsd voucher this time. I tend to find that when you are redeeming a voucher at a restaurant, the staff tends to dislike you. However this was NOT the case. The service was just as great as when I came here without vouchers. The tuna appetizers are delicious and I highly recommend it. After redeeming the voucher, my boyfriend and I had to come back and did so in just 2 days!"

  • "The restaurant is not doing well, in spite of the excellence of the food, the quiet ambiance and the friendly service. Many tables were empty. The reason is straightforward: the expense ($250 per person, with very modest drink) seems high. My hunch is that the expense is also the reason for the frequently bad reviews we had read. People who pay this price show that they do not mind spending extravagantly for luxury, and they expect to be surrounded by people like them (we had a gift coupon)."

  • "This restaurant has wonderful food and a marvelous ambience. So it was unpleasant to have inattentive service. The servers were pleasant but they ignored us throughout the whole meal. The restaurant was not busy at all. It even took time to get their attention for the bill."

  • "The food and service is very good quality and tasty. The prices are not! We had an enjoyable evening with friends until the check arrived. Be prepared to spend upwards of $200 p.p. (and that included teenagers). Our check came to $250 p.p. and 5 out of 8 didn't drink alcohol. I felt for this kind of money you rather go to Nobu and enjoy a more modern atmosphere and watch some people ..... "

  • "Had bought a voucher from travel zoo 4 drinks & apps thought we would give it a try .it also gave us 15% off dinner if we chose so we ordered just a few things to try & the only thing that was worth it was the special soft shell crab but pricey $26. For 1 crab !! Kobe beef 4 ways a waste of money to chewy.. Drinks ok apps so so . Would def not go back or recommend to others it was a disappointment . I don't mind spending $$ but give me a good product & I would def come back with friends once in a while"

  • "Recently celebrated an anniversary and chose to dine at Megu. Dinner was great, the food was delicious, and the drinks were fantastic. Our night was exactly what we were looking for. Yet Megu found a way to make it even better. I had mentioned our anniversary to the staff when I made our reservation and they were more than happy to accommodate us and our special occasion. We had one of the best tables in the place and they surprised us after dinner with a special dessert and wine toast. Megu has always been a great place which just got better in my book. Thanks again for everything Megu and staff, can't wait to dine with you again."

  • "This reveiew is for Megu Tribeca location: - Extremely poor customer service - Long wait time for food to come out (took 2 hours to bring out 20 pieces of sushi) - Fish was smelly and too much vinegar in every food This list can go on..."

  • "Megu seemed like a husk of its former early 2000's glory. Dishes like tuna tartare is served on shaved ice while blue glowsticks beamed beneath their plates, and our kobe steak dishes were inconsistent as my partner's stone to cook the dish was cool to the touch. DJ music also played in the background to perhaps cater to the mostly European crowd. Our waiter was very respectful and efficient, but seemed a bit forlorn as if Megu was on its way to a slow death. The restaurant, although beautiful with its buddha ice sculpture and Japanese Buddhist temple bell lights, still seemed dated with its white, lounge seating and white curtain partitions. I recommend going elsewhere. "

  • "The food here is excellent. Though it is high priced it certainly delivers. No complaints here. I will say the service was POOR and lacking. I hate when I have to wave down the waiter to get things taken care of such as cleaning the dirty dishes from the table which had been sitting for over 20 minutes. "

  • "I utilized a 5 course Groupon given to me for my birthday. The service was friendly but terrapin slow. The food was unremarkable/mediocre and I had to return an over battered "spicy" shrimp tempura that wasn't crispy or spicy. The wine list is insultingly overpriced. I had been to Megu 15 years earlier and it will be longer before I return. I'm of this opinion due to the fact that we (diners) can get a far better meal for less within a five block radius of Megu. This establishment reeks of corporate expense account excess simply for effect instead of charging guests for quality dining with top ingredients and brilliant execution."

  • "This restaurant was great, I have no complaints the food was great the service was outstanding, I brought my wife for her birthday and she loved it."

  • "Interesting place but not set up well. Restaurant is downstairs and restrooms are upstairs down the hall. Not convenient. First course came out pretty quick but after that waited quite a bit for other course. Food was very good. Very pricy and would not have gone without a deal."

  • "We celebrated my boyfriend's birthday at Megu after looking for a truly special place to eat. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. Our waiter, Lorenzo, was very knowledgeable about the menu and easily answered any questions we had. The atmosphere was very relaxing and romantic. At no point did we feel rushed. I had noted on Open Table that we were celebrating a birthday and when my boyfriend's dessert was brought to the table, the plate had "Happy BIrthday" written in chocolate & there was a candle in the whipped cream. We would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to others & look forward to returning soon!"

  • "Went for the Kobe Experience, sorry the Kobe Sirloin was no different if not worse than any sirloin you would get at a fine steak house at a 1/3 of the price very tough piece of meat . The sushi was good. The sliced Kobe Appetizer on a stone was good. Service was very slow took 2 hours for appetizer and dinner the place was not that busy and it was a Wednesday night . Took 40 minutes just to get a bottle of Sake to the table asked for it warm came cold by that time parched so we took it cold we literally sat at the table with nothing but water for 40 minutes! , at $150.00 plus a head not even close to meeting its mark."

  • "This is a gorgeous restaurant and the staff and decor are the only things keeping it from being one star overall. Sad, sad, sad Kobe beef, chewy and tasteless. Overwrought appetizers. Overpriced. The dessert was not bad if you like whipped cream with your baby flan. UGH."

  • "Tried the upstairs bar area (alternative) restaurant. The kobe beef burgers are first rate--but the atmosphere is nothing special and the service was unimpressive. If you have an urge for Megu, go to the regular downstairs restauran,t which is indeed special--but if you have an urge for a top notch burger and fries, and don't care much about the rest, then this is a good choice."

  • "Went for dinner, and I was very excited about their kobe burger. We were originally shown to the super cool downstairs area, but apparently they only serve the kobe burger upstairs in the bar area, so that was a letdown. The service was inattentive and the food was sort of bland, surprisingly."

  • "Had the Guilt City deal for Sushi Omakase and treated my friend to a bday dinner with it. My friend and I never had the experience of having the sushi tasting menu Chef's choice and honestly at times I didn't know what to do but I was very pleased with the whole experience. The server was attentive and watching the sushi chef make our sushi/sashimi as well as others was very interesting. The food was very yummy and I actually tried other types of fish/seafood I probably wouldn't freely try on my own. I don't remember all the different types of sashimi but some notable was baby squid, torched mackerel, sea urchin, etc and we had the typical salmon, tuna, yellowtail, etc."

  • "I have been to Megu many times already, and unsurprisingly, this meal was great as usual. We ordered the price fixe menus, including the delicious Kobe beef-steak. On the other hand, the service and ambience at Megu Midtown are much better. Megu New York is quite loud and the service is not as up to par. Yet, regardless, the meal itself was fantastic."

  • "Last time I went to MEGU at 6:30, they just open, the sushi is great! But then I book a later night about 9:40, the sushi is terrible....I mean 100% terrible! They tasted like every one already wait for a long time....the rice like cooked by last night...."

  • "My experience at this restaurant was great! I went during restaurant week and was able to enjoy this restaurant for a much more reasonable price than it normally is. The Kobe beef is to die for!!! It truly melts in your mouth. The restaurant paired sake with the restaurant week menu which was great. The ambience of the restaurant is great. The eating area is intimate and dimly lit. It was perfect for date night with my husband. The staff was great. Drinks are pricey at the bar, but that was to be expected for drinks in the city. All in all, the food was great and we had a great dining experience."
