  • "A very interesting evening. The food was very good, our steaks were cooked just to our liking. The shared appetizer and dessert we shared were a little disappointing. Appetizer was eye appealing but flat on taste, the dessert was disappointing in size and taste for the price. The service and team were very friendly, one comment regarding the wine service could be improved. A little sloppy. The wine list pricey and not much depth."

  • "Really awesome restaurant experience, trying to find it was a little hard as it has a subtle sign, however once we located the place we enjoyed very good food - I was especially impressed by the cocktail I had - I rarely drink cocktails as I prefer wine or beer but the bartender did an outstanding job in making my drink. Totally made the experience more special than a night out for dinner. The food was awesome - loved the veggies that came with my fillet mignon. Steak was perfect. For once I didn't need to reseason - everything was awesome as was."

  • "We were definitively over-dressed for this restaurant. First off, the coat-check is compulsory but I have to admit that having one girl give and take coats created a huge line-up. It would have been good if they had two windows, one for accepting coats, the other for giving them back. The service was prompt and very good. The cocktails served were spot on and the food was good. I have to say that the appetizer of oyster and the bison bresaola were delicious, but the main course of short ribs could have been braised another couple of hours - too much fat left on the meat, and not tender enough. The dessert of spicy chocolate cake had my wife almost go to the kitchen for encores. All in all, a good experience worth the $29 for the menu."

  • "My friends and I have made an habit to go there every couple weeks. It's simply the perfect pre-gaming ambiance before going out. Service is great, the place is clean, the food is good to great and the ambiance is perfect. A steakhouse sounds odd but in this place it's a really good fit."

  • "This is our second visit. The first time was five years ago, a quiet Sunday night accidental find. Tasty burgers was all I could remember-- I mean beef is in the name of the restaurant! This time, it was a noisy Friday night. Food and drinks were still brilliant, but don't come here for a nice quiet dinner. I think I'm just too old for that kind of scene. Great if you like that kind of atmosphere!"

  • "Experience was good from the momment we arrived, hostess was happy to see us so it was a good start . Dinner menu had a lot of good choices and the food was also very good and loved the presentation was beautiful without being pretentious. Service was excellent and friendly.they have a live dj on weekend i would probably recommand it for a group of friends who are looking for a fun night out with good meal. Definitely going back!"

  • "Mechant Boeuf was on the list of Happening Gourmand 2014 and decided to take a reservation. Table d'hote was 25$ for a choice of three entrees, three plates and two desserts. I had a three oysters entree. Very fresh, well seasoned. It had a spicy sauce that was so good that I dipped my piece of bread in it. I ordered the short rib braised beef for the main course with mashed sweet potatoes, carrots, green and red peppers and sugar snap peas. Both meat and vegetables cooked to perfection (to my taste). The chosen dessert was the spicy chocolate mousse, also very good. Would recommend for sure."

  • "I came for the Happening Gourmand festival and it was worth it. The table d`hote had a great selection. The 5 à 7 was a surprise for a Saturday night and the selection was amazing. Great food, great service (except the cocktails took a little long to arrive), but that wouldn't stop me from returning."

  • "the fish and chips was made with batter that did not stick to the fish. and it came with chips n not fries. the fish was not very good either. the only good thing we're the oysters. the dessert spicy chocolate cake was different at the first bite but i don't recommend it. the music was too loud n it was radio music. walked out of there pretty disappointed to be honest."

  • "We tried out their Happening Gourmand menu. The main courses (beef rib and chicken cordon blue burger) were delicious, fresh and not too salty. However, the dessert (spicy chocolate cake) really did not work for me. It did not taste spicy on the palette, just burning in the throat. Our waitress has dropped the sauce container for oyster on our table and the ketchup and mayo container on the floor which some stained on my boyfriend's shoes... We still were able to laugh about it though. The music was a bit loud and space a bit tight, but overall it was a good experience since the restaurant wasn't full on that day."

  • "My friend and I made our reservation online through the Happening Gourmand event. From the Table D'Hote menue, I ordered the Iceberg lettuce and blue cheese dressing salad. The salad was artfully presented with a reasonable size wedge of iceberg lettuce, a crisp swirl of well-cooked bacon and just enough dressing to complement not overpower. The fish and chips with homemade ketchup were excellent. The Cod was perfectly cooked, lightly battered and took me back to Chess' Fish and Chips in NL. Fish was sweet, moist and flaked easily, not dry at all! Dessert was a melt-in-your-mouth chocolate cake with a spicy-hot whipped chocolate topping. A wonderful meal. Music was good but too loud. Ambiance was warm. Our server Chris was very attentive."

  • "The oyster bar is as good as people say it is! I'd highly recommend anything from the oyster bar. The bloody oyster shooter was especially yummy! I had the lean burger (burger between two pita breads), and it was great. A lot of fries, maybe a little too much, but the fries were crunchy. Exciting atmosphere, lit up with red background lights."

  • "A friend and I were tired of our usual watering hole and decided to give this place a try. It was Thursday night, the place was very busy, loud and the music was great. The drinks are strong and fairly priced for the Old Port. The food was okay, it was perfect to snack a bit before going home but nothing to write home about. All in all we liked our experience there and would definitely go back for a 5 a 7 type of evening."

  • "I had reserved a table for 2 through opentable. Called them around 4pm that evening to see if the could change it to 4 people. They said is wasn't a problem. When we got there they couldn't find my reservation but gave us a table. Then came back several times to ask for my name to make sure they found the reservation. We order and get our appetizers which were very good but waited for over 40 minutes to get our main meal. Then the hostess came to apologize to us and said that there was an error with our order. The waiter didn't even have the audacity to tell us himself. Also, they mentioned it a few times that there was a second seating at 9pm, as we were seated, when I changed the reservation and again when we were served our main meal!"

  • "I only gave three stars for service for the following reason - my date and I wanted to have a few drinks at the bar before being seated for supper. The bar staff were not attentive and we did not feel welcome. Our meal however was fantastic! This is a great place to get a steak. I had the Hanger Steak - perfection. My date also enjoyed the Striploin which was accompanied by yummy cheesy potatoes."

  • "I have been to Mechant Boef before and it is always great! The night I made reservations I was really craving steak and mashed potatoes and couldn't wait to get there. The only problem was, when we arrived, we found out they were celebrating their 6th year anniversary so they had a New Orleans theme going on and a special menu, which did not include steak or mashed potatoes. I ordered the ribs, which were fantastic, but I was disappointed that I was not advised when I made the reservation that there would be a limited menu. I guess that's what happens when you reserve online. I don't recall seeing anything advertised on their website either. Everything was great, but I was disappointed I did not get to have a steak..."
