We were very pleasantly surprised that the small storefront housed a cozy, welcoming space with a nice decor. Wine list was pretty good and not outrageously priced. Food was great--bacon-wrapped dates to start, salads (wedge salad and spinach with an amazing dressing) next that were larger than the usual, and then entrees. The diablo skirt steak was prepared just right, and a special of pan-roasted walleye was delicious as well. Service was neither too rushed nor too slow. Had an after dinner drink in the bar, with nice conversation with the owners. The first time there we just had drinks at the bar and it smelled yummy so we decided to go back another night for dinner. The mussels were delicious, I loved the creamy sauce! I can't wait to go again and try the duck that people around us were raving about. Our server Shari was delightful. Great food, nice atmosphere, excellent staff, owner stopped at the table to ask how everything was. On this night, the waiter was somewhat too eager to take our order, serve the food and clear. It is such an enjoyable place, we did not want to rush. One con...the wine by the glass is too pricey. This is only because we don't live in the area, but after dining there last Saturday, we'll be back soon and we plan to bring our friends. It's wonderful to see how this restaurant has grown in a year.
The restaurant, especially the seating near the bar, has a very warm, happy feel to it. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. There's an excellent wine list, as well as a good assortment of beers and cocktails. We enjoyed the brie and apple bruschetta appetizer. Just the right combination of flavors. For entrees, we can highly recommend the duck as well as the pasta. For dessert, the white chocolate/ dark chocolate brownie appears confusing on the menu, but it anyway.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMécénat is a shining starMécénat is a shining star in Western Springs. Menu choices are varied and reasonabley priced. Food is great. Although a little noisy, I liked the energy. If you want no noise, look for a sound proof restaurant, if you can find one. They had a guitar player for most of the evening, and we groaned when he appeared. The owner, Kelly, was around as usual, and that is a good thing. I love this place, as often as I can ask friends to meet me there. My only problem is that I like their bread and mussels so much that I don't venture as much as I should around the menu. We enjoyed the swordfish, hamburger, spinach salad, quesadillas, several different bruschettas and other items. Everything was superb and well-prepared. The spinach salad is out of this world. The wait staff was knowledgeable and pleasant. Impressive wine list although prices are a bit high. We tried 5 different desserts. All excellent. Mecenat is a real find.2/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
