  • "The "new" bar was quite charming and the food was fantastic. The service was superb! The menu was small but full of great choices. Had some of the best moule frites ever. The goat cheese/onion tart was divine. The grilled cheese and braised beef sandwich on brioche-magnifique!! My wife had the crab salad with tasty lump crab meat mixed in with fresh whole peaches...will definitely be back soon!!"

  • "Was recommended by local friend, Enjoyed the visit good food !! Some tables much too close to each other and as prior reviews was very loud later. But good service till it got super busy when had to ask the manager to help. Overall would recommend !!"

  • "We enjoyed making our way through the appetizer and dessert selections paired with good wine & coffee. The experience felt like a cross between The Mission in SF and the 16thA in Paris. Nice service, too Check it out."

  • "Everything was so great. Everyone enjoyed their cocktails and food. We will be back there soon, for sure."

  • "Our waiter was knowledgeable and well versed in the menu and wine list. Explained an unusual speccial which had a a combination not heard of before which turned out to be very compatible. He suggested a rose wine that we would never have thought of but thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, a very pleasant experience."

  • "Having just returned from 72 hrs in NOLA eating outstanding meals at noteworthy restaurants, I have to add Meauxbar to my list of favorite dining destinations. Meauxbar is not a tourist destination, and you won't find a litany of Cajun classics on their menu. It is a French bistro with New Orleans gusto, and a list of small plates that I am still drooling over. Crab salad w/ripe peaches, haricots verte, nicoise olives, and smoked goat cheese...best pan roasted oysters ever...escargot in a marrow bone... FRENCH ONION and SHREDDED BEEF GRILLED CHEESE on BRIOCHE. OMG. After you have had your fill of Gumbo, Jambalaya and Po' Boys, go to this locals restaurant in a local neighborhood. Go early in your trip in case you want to go back."

  • "The people from St. Marie who bought this should have changed the name. There is nothing about this place that's as good as the original-not the food, beverages or the ambiance. They're trying to capture what was there but they can't. What a disservice to the public."

  • "the food was mediocre, the atmosphere was horrible, the noise level was unbearable (couldn't wait to leave) nothing outstanding here, in New Orleans there are so many more good choices."

  • "The pork belly and scallop appetizer was insanely delicious, and really set the tone for the whole meal; the crabmeat & quinoa salad was another standout. But the chef's takes on traditional dishes really shone as well - the steak frites were tremendous. All in all, just a tremendous experience, from the moment we arrived until dessert. If you liked Chef Essig's food at Ste Marie, you'll LOVE it here."

  • "Chef Kristen Essig is the true undiscovered gem of New Orleans cuisine. One of most wonderful meals we have enjoyed in New Orleans in many years. Also, the craft cocktails are superbly prepared by the bar staff. Wonderful for special occasions. We've already booked our next visit."

  • "We had dinner at Meauxbar Saturday, July 5. I love the wrap around booth with small tables and chairs! Wonderful view of the restaurant and bar from these booths. Our waiter, Ben, was wonderful. Quiet but informative and knowledgable. Service was fabulous. The wine list is short but delicious and the only drawback was no Crown Royal for my husband. Appetizers were pork belly with crispy scallops, goat cheese tart, and pome frittes with rouillet all delicious! Entrees were the hanger steak with parmesan frittes and the French Onion sandwich. They were outstanding! Wanted to do dessert but we were stuffed! Can't wait to go back and have everything else on the menu. So glad to have another delicious restaurant in our neighborhood."

  • "Professional and friendly service. Good food but not as good as previous visits. Noise level too high - could not hear my companion..It is an easy fix so please do something about it. Bartender should be able to make a decent caipirinha - he did not. A restaurant with affordable prices for locals. Thank goodness! Great goat cheese tart!"

  • "Having eaten all over the world, I thought my list of TEN BEST MEALS OF MY LIFE was complete. But Kirsten Lessig's re-imagining of MEAUX BAR goes beyond anything I've experienced before. It's almost like discovering a new form of international cuisine... with superior ingredients prepared and paired in combinations making all the elements spring to new life and flavor. If you think you can imagine pork belly combined with scallops, you're wrong! If you've ever had blueberries, honeycomb and cream sauce...well, not like this you haven't!! Every element seemed to have landed on this planet from another world, but definitely attuned to to my all-too-human tastebuds. Our servers were Adrian and a handful of others, always at attention."

  • "Go toMeauxbar, you will be happy you did: food is creative and utilizes the best of ingredients, service is attentive and knowledgeable, and the mood they achieve inside is perfect for a memorable dinner. Well worth a visit."

  • "I have been there several times since I moved to NOLA. This was my first time after new owner : there was changing in the decoration - big mistake - they replace the floor and took out those acoustic stuff hanging at the roof : we could not talk to each other - the loudest restaurant I have been recently. The food was OK - but it took too long after ordered."

  • "The food and service are stellar. The new chef's food is simply amazing, coaxing rich flavors from just a few ingredients. Do not miss the oysters, the pork belly/scallop and the mussels."

  • "We have been twice since the new ownership, and the food was wonderful each time. The snapper almandine was excellent. The service is attentive. However, the noise level is very high. If you want a quiet romantic meal this is probably not the place."

  • "this is a neighborhood restaurant with apparently known clientele and some new ones like me the night I visited. I was able to get a pisco sour which is not available even in large restaurants. the food is attractively presented and in a different manner. I had the pork chop atop a clever mix of eggplant, squash and zucchini. The dessert was a chocolate semifreddo with a tarragon anglaise sauce. I would like to return"

  • "The French Onion Grillcheese was delicious!!!! Others in the party had the Lamb dish, Hanger steak & pork chops. The appetizers were very good also!"

  • "I love this place, unfortunately the noise level is out of control, it was very difficult to hold a conversation with your dinner guests. It was even difficult to hear the wait staff. We did not stay for dinner because of the noise level, the drinks were great though. We were assured that the owners are aware of this situation, and will be working on a remedy soon. Can't wait to go back."

  • "There are definitely big shoes to fill when resurrecting a neighborhood gem. The new owners and chef have succeeded in bringing back the inviting feel but with a fresh look. Nothing disappointed. "

  • "We had been to Meauxbar Bistro under its previous owner and liked it very much. it was on our normal rotation of restaurants that are close to our apartment. even though this was the first week that the restaurant had re-opened under a new chef, the food was excellent. i had a quinoa and crab salad that was very interesting in texture and had the right light flavors for warm weather dining. my entree was the Bolognese with spaetzle, the meat sauce was very good, but i would like to have seen a bit more spaetzle with the dish. our waiter was nice, but knew very little about the menu. the dining room was freezing cold. in all i am glad that the restaurant is back. i'm sure that the service kinks will be ironed out in due course. "

  • "The ambiance of this revived space is almost as beautiful as the presentation of the menu items! Just an overall great experience. I recommend the beef tartar and the lamb loin, and never skip dessert---it's worth it here. "

  • "We used to frequent the "old" Meauxbar and were such huge fans of this neighborhood gem. We were so disappointed when the owners shut the doors to pursue other projects, but hopeful when we heard the folks from Sainte Marie were taking over. I love the new decor. It's modern without being overly so. The staff is very knowledgable and took the time to chat with us about the new menu and the restaurant's reimagining. Stacey took incredible care of us. Everything was delicious! My only criticisms were that my dirty martini could have been dirtier and there was too much beet "caviar" on the chicken liver mousse...completely overwhelmed the dish. We went on their second day of re-opening. I'm sure things will tighten up. Will be back for sure. "

  • "As usual, Meauxbar does not disappoint- the space is sweet, the staff is helpful and courteous, and the food is spot on. At our most recent visit, we had a selection of about 8 items from the appetizer menu- each better then the last! Mussels, beet ravioli, fried oyster salad, onion tart- just to name a few... We used to come just for a pre-theatre meal, but this place has now become part of our regular dining schedule. Keep up the good work!"

  • "We have been trying to get to the Meauxbar Bistro for a while, and I am glad we made it. This is a great French Bistro. The food is fantastic. The Seabass is the best fish preparation i have had anywhere. Beet ravioli sounds strange, but it is excellent. The food is worth the trip to the edge of the quarter on Rampart. Yes this is not a good place to walk or park at night, so take a taxi. The prices and food is better than most of the standard French Quarter restaurants. Wine choices are mostly French, but good prices. So you should go and enjoy it."

  • "We were a party of four and had a wonderful experience. It was the second time for my husband and me and the first for the other couple. The beet salad is so very good, we ordered two of these and ate every bite. The onion soup is superb. My husband had roast chicken and really enjoyed it. I have ordered the bolognese both times that I have been and love it! The sauce is very rich with a smokey flavor. The service is perfect. Love Meauxbar."

  • "Classic French and more. They have some of the best cooks by far in NOLA. Everything seems to always be prepared with care and an eye for perfection. I always come back to Mauexbar! My favs: Beet Salad, Crab Cakes, Onion Soup, Fish prepared in Parchment, whatever roasted chicken they are doing, mac and cheese.... fries.... :)"

  • "Nice, little place. Friendly service. Good food and selection. But, typical (it seems) of current New Orleans service -- the kitchen does what is wants on their schedule, despite asking servers for a relaxed pace. It was our most expensive dinner of the trip."

  • "Off the beaten track on the edge of the Quarter so Meauxbar Bistro must excel to survive, and it does. I have to exercise great discipline to NOT eat here twice each visit."

  • "The location is off the beaten path, but it's well worth the effort to make the trek. This smallish, comfortable restaurant packs them in routinely with solid food and a comfortable surrounding. The food and wine menus contain interesting, varied, and well thought-out options."
