Diner Reviews
  • "It was a lovely start to a lovely evening concert at the Benaroya. Convenient location, small but inclusive menu"

  • "We enjoy dining at Measure at Benaroya Hall when we attend Seattle Symphony Pops. It is convenient, relaxing and the food is always very good."

  • "This restaurant inside Benaroya Hall has great food & easy going service. The menu is small but what they do have is excellent. Our last outing here, I had the special which was moonfish (opah) & it was one of the best I have ever had. Service is attentive but not overly so. You do need tickets to a performance to dine here. So if you are attending something at the symphony, this is the place to have dinner or lunch beforehand."

  • "We arrived on time at 6:30. We had a clam chowder at 6:45. Then we waited. It was 7:30 when our entrée arrived. Way late. Another couple who ordered at 6:40 like we did had finished their entire meal and were on coffee by the time our main course arrived. We told the server we were going to split the entrée. I guess the chef didn't like that. We only received about 3 oz of meat and 5 or 6 tiny potatoes. Not enough even for one person. If this practice continues, we will move on to a commercial restaurant."

  • "Seemed as though there were not enough servers. Our reservation was for 6:30 and we didn't finish until 7:50, just enough time to get to the concert; the bells were ringing as we were walking down the hall! There was too much time between courses. Our water glasses were empty and we had to ask for more. We would have appreciated more bread and butter which was very scarce through the meal. My entree was scallops which were very good, but would have appreciated them more had they not been swimming in sauce. Just scallops and a side salad would have been perfect."

  • "We think it's a treat to be able to enjoy good food at the Symphony Hall. The food was very good and the service was very thoughtful"

  • "Room with huge windows bright, airy and sterile. Few diners; very quiet. Ordered a (misspelled) ceasar salad for about $9.00. Companion ordered same thing, but with a small crab cake. We got cereal size bowls of lettuce, several croutons and small slab of anchovy. The crab cake would have been a smart move, except that her meal cost $17.00 - outrageous for a tiny lettuce salad plus the crab cake. Service was slow, annoyingly so, since we all had concert tickets. Menu looked great online, but it wasn't the menu we were given. We'll go back to the Chihuly foyer with its cafeteria style delicious food."

  • "Measure is unique in that it exists as a convenience for ticket holders for concerts at Benaroya Hall. I have visited twice, once for dinner before an evening concert, and last Sunday for brunch before an afternoon concert. Both times, the food was very good, the service friendly and attentive, and the room, the Founder's Room at Benaroya, is attractive. This is a terrific convenience for Symphony goers. We'll go again."

  • "We arrived late due to traffic (@ 6:15) but plenty of table were available. Started off not so good, as my water glass had big lips on the rim (a previous customers lipstick). The server was vary apologetic about the dirty glass. Considering how few people were in the restaurant, it took a bit longer than expected for the food to arrive, the server was also very apologetic about that too. The oysters were great! The salmon didn't seem to be a great catch, drier that I'd expect with fresh salmon this time of year and may have been cooked a little too long. (I only marked the food/overall 'very good' because the oysters were great! The show after was great!"

  • "My friend and I ate at Benaroya Hall's Measure restaurant just prior to a Pop's concert. The room is beautiful, the food always good, and the service very nice. It is a great place to relax and have an excellent meal just prior to an event at Benaroya Hall. I have eaten here before and will do so again. "

  • "We attend the Seattle Symphony at least once a month. We usually dine at several places around Seattle. This was our first time at Measure. We enjoyed our dinner and never had to leave Benaroya Hall."

  • "soooooooooooooo salty could hardly finish my filet..... brought wrong one to table first... just not up to par for Seattle Symphony"
    Dined on 5/29/2014
  • "The food was very good and the service was fine. But our entrée took a long time to come, forcing us to rush through it in order to make the performance."
    Dined on 5/15/2014
  • "We waited an hour for our food. The food was good but very salty. Waiting over an hour for our food is unacceptable. They first claimed it was because the steak had to be medium well. The waiter said he would have to take the chef out for a beer because chef's hate having to cook steak medium well. Then they said we had to wait so long because the menu was just transitioning to spring. Then finally they said it was because they lost our ticket. We had to rush through dinner when it finally came and just made it to our seats on time for the performance. A free dessert didn't do it for me. A future comp ticket might have been better. They have lost a loyal customer for now. "

  • "Service was fun and attentive. Food very good. I loved the booths and the view is a great urban-scape. Really nice place to enjoy a meal befor the Seattle Symphony."

  • "We enjoyed a few things, but not much. The first sign was when I asked if the terrine was big enough to share and the waiter responded that he didn't know because he hadn't served it yet. Two orders were more than adequate; it was quite heavy and cheesy. We had not finished our appetizers when the waiter apologized that our entrees were ready because they have a new menu. That made sense to him, but not us. My scallops entree was so oversalted I was unable to eat it. We ordered bread pudding for dessert. I asked, "this is bread pudding?" the response was, "It has some bread cubes in it. Only when we started eating did we realize it was Trifle, not Bread Pudding. Although convenient for pre-concert dining, this meal did not "Measure" up."

  • "We arrived at 5:30pm wanting to eat before attending the 6:30 preconcert talk. We were the only ones but everyone was very gracious. By the time we left the place was full but we made the talk. We had excellent friendly service. Enjoyed the bartender who showed us the Fremont rye for the Manhattan. Server was knowledgeable about the wines and the new menu was simply delicious. We started with the edamame mushroom soup which was thick, silky and extremely tasty. We both then had the steak which was perfectly cooked and served with a delicious sauce. Portion sizes were perfect. Thanks again for a delightful evening."

  • "Measure has achieved a new level of quality for dining and service based on our recent experience. Already a tremendous convenience for parking, leisurely dining prior to a Benaroya event, it seems to have paid attention to comments expressed about achieving its full potential. We found our dining experience this time exceptional and hope that they are able to maintain this level. "

  • "An excellent brunch menu; beautiful classical music in the background; Nicole was an engaging and professional server; fine food; a spacious and comfortable place with an open city view. Superb!"

  • "We enjoyed the quiet and good food before a afternoon performance of the Seattle Pops. Great location and friendly staff."

  • "This was our second visit to Measure. We knew from the first time that the food was somewhat avant-garde (which is OK with us), and the portion sizes were fairly small. This time, we almost ordered too much food! We shared an appetizer; my wife ordered the Dungeness crab salad, which was fairly small but extremely tasty, and I ordered a dinner special (in this case, pork tenderloin). We usually mix-and-match our meals, and this evening was no exception. The dinner special was huge! We didn't walk away hungry. Moral of the story: If you haven't been to Measure lately, or if you are put off by the thought of small portions, look into the dinner specials. If in doubt, ask the waiter. He was pretty straightforward about the portion sizes."

  • "No need to rush off to your Benaroya Hall engagement; Measure is located right in the hall. The ambience is lovely with minimalist furnishings with an Asian vibe. The feel is urban and airy; the restaurant looks out over Seattle's urban landscape, while floating in the treetops of the Garden of Remembrance below. Lots of space between the tables created a quiet, discreet ambiance. The menu offers a small but interesting selection of the main protein groups of fish, flesh, fowl and veg. The food was quite good although obviously prepared in advance for quick dispatch from the kitchen; the dishes were attractively arranged. Small but select wine list. Overall quite good and reasonably priced for a restaurant in a performance venue."

  • "This can be a relaxing way to start an evening at the Symphony. This gracious dining room is delightful. The bar is great. The food is variable, ranging from wonderful (smoked salmon appetizer, scallops) to ordinary (beet risotto). The service is slow to uneven. But if you are not in a hurry, are patient, and choose carefully, it's a nice way to start an evening."

  • "The Good: The food was great, our waiter was great! Desert seemed to take a while, but we weren't in too big of hurry. We chose Measure based on convenience and the good reviews. Convenience because we were attending the Glenn Miller Orchestra show at Benaroya Hall. The Not-So-Good: I wasn't impressed with the hostess at all. When my wife and I walked in, she just stood looking at her monitor and payed no attention to us. No smile, no greeting, nothing. It wasn't until I stepped forward by myself and informed her that we had reservations and stated my name that we finally got a reaction from her. Fortunately the rest of the evening went very well, enough to make up for her rudeness. We'll go back again."

  • "The kitchen did not seem well organized. Our meals came at different times - first two and 5 min. later one more and then 15 min. later the last one. Seems all the crab had been made into crab cakes and there was none left for crab salad. Our waiter was very attentive and apologetic but didn't have much to work with. I asked for some jam for my toast and there wasn't any. He brought a small container of honey when I was almost done eating. Convenient, quiet spot for conversation which we especially enjoyed."

  • "We picked Measure because it was convenient for a pre-performance meal, and, per their internet page, had a couple of sandwiches that looked good. The sandwiches were not available, and the website should have made this clear. We ordered salads with crab cakes, which were very good, but not my first choice. The menu options were few. The server did an excellent job. Measure was a good choice for a diner who is unfamiliar with other local restaurants near Benaroya Hall and wants the convenience of eating adjacent to a performance. My recommendation to a friend would include a suggestion that he/she call ahead to confirm available menu selections."

  • "They had appetizers and main courses for a variety of prices and everything we ordered was fresh and good quality with nice flavor. The wine list is small but my glass of wine was excellent and a good pour for the price. The staff was attentive and service was fast without being rushed. Most of the area restaurants fill up early in the week for a Saturday night symphony, but I was still able to get a reservation for 4 here, and feel like it was to my advantage that Measure seems to be a bit of a secret."

  • "we had the crab and there was no imagination. It was bland. Am sure the crab was good there was just nothing to bring out the taste. There was some fruit around it and that did help a little. Would I visit again? Yes, certainly. Have been there many a time and it was usually good. My friend who was with me feels the same way. It was her first time but she would like to give it another try. Thanks."

  • "After attending symphonies at Benaroya Hall for over 12 years, this is the first time we dined at Measure. Why? We were not tempted since we could not find info such as menu, price range, even a direct phone line to ask questions. This time we did track down more info (Google search helped). However, the website was very dated (September, 2013) and a menu would not open. We took the chance anyway and were thrilled with the experience. Great service, great food (although the menu had out-of-date desserts listed) and a quiet, almost club-like atmosphere. We will go again and have already encouraged symphony-attending friends to do so as well.."

  • "We were blown away by the truly tasty, beautifully-presented food, very professional and helpful service (thanks, Richard!), and the quiet and relaxing setting. Food proportions were "just right." We appreciated the spaciousness of the room arrangement which enhanced conversation. Our idea had been to give Measure a try for its convenience, hoping for at least adequate food. But--surprise!--we found the food to be an absolute delight, far exceeding expectations. We'll most definitely be back! Bravo and brava!! We recommend going early (our reservation was for 6) to get the full experience."

  • "Measure at Benaroya has never failed us. The menu isn't huge (neither are the portions), that being said, although some of the offerings are a little skimpy, who wants to eat a big meal and then sit for 2 1/2 hours? My husband and I usually split a starter or larger salad, then order an entrée. As a side note, the bartender is excellent and I have had extremely well-crafted cocktails."

  • "This was my second time to Measure and the first one was absolutly amazing, impecible friendly service and wonderful food. This time the food was great; although our waiter was pleasant, he was overwhelmed, slow, and forgetful. We arrived at 6:00 pm and it took to 7:55 to get our bills processed. Too many patrons and not enough well trained staff. The restaurant needs to be able to accomodate walk-ins as well as those with reservations."

  • "The food was great - we had the chicken and special. Getting service at the table was difficult at times, had to ask for more ice tea for mom from 3 different people and remind our waiter before she got it. They do a good job of getting you settled and or initial order, anything after that was hard to get attention. Still Great food"

  • "We ate here before our 7:30pm symphony and enjoyed it very much. We had reservations for 6pm, but didn't need them although the timing working out great. It wasn't very crowded so we could have just showed up. 6:30 would have been fine too. We shared an appetizer and each had a dinner plus a glass of wine each. Bill came to about $70. The service was very good. Our server was friendly and helpful and there when you needed him, but not when you didn't. The beet risotto was tasty and the special was delicious that evening. The view was pleasant as you could see a chunk of the sunsetting sky through the big windows. It was quiet and peaceful leading to a beautiful symphonic evening."

  • "We liked the open space, relaxed ambience of Measure. Service was good, very attentive! Since this was the first time at Measure, we had a hard time finding it, even though we have been to Benaroya many times for concerts in the past. Food flavors were good, but not great."

  • "We dined at Measure before a recent concert at Benaroya and found the food and service to be excellent. We will eat here again as it is so convenient to park in the Benaroya garage, take the elevator to the restaurant and then attend the concert. Easy, peasy! My friend accidently left her credit card and they contacted her to let her know where she could pick it up before leaving Benaroya."
