Diner Reviews
  • "I was recently working in National Harbor and had the chance to meet up with several friends from the area. I chose McLoone's and we all had a great time. Our waiter was knowledgeable, energetic fun and efficient and everyone was happy with the food, even the one that doesn't eat seafood! One of the better places in National Harbor"

  • "The service and food were great. My special request was not honored for my online reservation, I suggest you call if you want odor seating."

  • "Food is very good, but everything is overpriced in national harbor. Service was enthusiastic, but lacking foresight. When the bread came, we had to ask for bread plates and silverware. When the dishes began to pile up, we had to ask for table service. Other than that, great atmosphere and electric crowd. Best seating is outside. Live music on Sat night was fun."

  • "We enjoyed our experience and the service was outstanding. We loved the crabcakes, and oysters. All of our selections were excellent. For dessert we had the creme brulé and crepes because they seemed to be the only desserts worth trying and they were good but not exceptional. Overall I recommend this restaurant."

  • "The food was too pricey for the quality, but the ambience was nice."

  • "We went here for dinner just because we were craving a beautiful view while we ate. We definitely got it! The food is good as well - loved the crab dip and the sangria. Very friendly staff as well."

  • "This was my first trip to National Harbor. McLoon's was a good choice for celebrating my son's birthday. The menu offered enough of a variety for the members of my family and the server was friendly and attentive. The food was a little slow to arrive but we were not in a hurry. I would return to this restaurant."

  • "Was our 1st visit to McLoone's. Had a late lunch with family on the outside deck overlooking National Harbor. Staff was friendly & attentive. Will certainly return...next time during evening/night with the spouse."

  • "We had a friends birthday party here and it was wonderful. We requested a table by the window and they accommodated our request by the window and also by the fireplace. It was a beautiful day outside so we have a perfect view of the river. We also brought our own cake and they brought it out with candles for the birthday party! I would recommend this place for any special occasion but a side note that they do not allow balloons in the dining area."

  • "I was excited by looking at the menu and pictures online but I was so disappointed with the food. We went on a Thursday night around 9pm and there was only 1 other couple there, that should have given me a clue as to the quality of the food. Usually good seafood restaurants are packed any day of the week. But we ordered the seafood bisque and had to send it back because it was too salty. I got the crab fritters, they were ok. I got the shrimp scampi but it was bland and the shrimp was the size of quarters. For the price I thought I would get nice size shrimp and a good creamy sauce, instead it was oil and butter over some fetticine noodles, not good. My friend had some concoction that was supposed to be paella, it was not good at all."

  • "generally speaking the national harbor is overpriced. McLoone's is no different - you are clearly paying for the view rather than the food. The food was good but not exceptional. Dessert options were lacking so we went elsewhere."

  • "At arrival, we were taken to a table on the upper level and thrilled by the view. A curt Manager immed told us not to sit they needed tables for a large party - deflated. We started to wonder if McLoone's was a good choice because she quickly lowered our expectations. Our waitress made up for it with her service. Drinks pricey at $12, were good. We had crab dip & calamari as appetizers. The dip had more cream than crab, but it was ok. 3 of us got the special - two stuffed shrimp & two seared scallops over mashed potatoes and spinach for $28. The portions small for the price but it was decent. One friend got Paella and she said it was "ok." I'd give service a 4 (would have been 5 but for the mgr), meal 3-4, price 3-4 and location 5."

  • "This had to be the worst experience we've had in regards to dining. We were over dressed and the food was TERRIBLE. I don't know if it was a bad night or what. We had to order (re-order) at least 3-4 times, AND it took 1 1/2 hours just to receive the first order. The only good thing was that the Manager came to the table and tried his best to accommodate us, but he couldn't cook the food. Also, he said he was going to give us a complimentary card of some sort so that if we were ever in the neighborhood again we could stop by and give them another chance, but we never received the card."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our three-year anniversary here over the weekend. The meal was spectacular and the ambiance was cozy and romantic. There was a one-man band playing and the view of the water at night was gorgeous. They even brought us a special celebratory dessert for our anniversary- a nice touch. We will definitely return."

  • "I went during restaurant week for a 1st time visit. Arrived 20 min before my reservation, but was not acknowledge for 20 minutes. The food was not great, expected a better meal. The only thing that saved the dining experience from being totally terrible was our nice waiter and the view. I would not recommend this restaurant."

  • "We had a 3:30 reservation and were thinking it was the lunch menu. 4 ordered from dinner and 1 ordered from lunch (we had both menus) When the one was charged fro dinner, she mentioned that she had ordered off the lunch menu. She was informed that since the order went in at 4:00, she was charged the dinner menu price and the manager said he had no way of charging her the lunch rate---yeah right! Other than them not working with us regarding the menu snaffu, things were good. The waiter was very accommodating. The dessert we all wanted was unavailable (chocolate lava cake) so they provided an alternative. But really, who sells out of the dessert prior to dinner service during Restaurant Week???!! I probably will not dine here again."

  • "The food was very good, but we had a pretty bad experience with our waiter. He did not introduce himself, we had to ask for bread, took 20 minutes to get our drinks, brought us the wrong drinks, took FOREVER to take our order and bring the food, and forgot us because we were outside, so we had to ask another waiter for our check. The other waiters were excellent though, very attentive and genuinely pleasant to the other customers. The outdoor seating has a great view of the water, especially during sunset hours. I'll be going back, but I'm requesting we do not get the same waiter."

  • "Dined in March and had a very pleasant waiter but there service was very slow and the food came out cold and very mediocre. The crab dip tasted like cream of chicken soup with dried crab flakes on top of it. I had the crab cake which was actually very good, but most of the people at the table felt the prices were very high and the food not very good. The fruit cobbler had pineapple in it and was chunky with undercooked fruit, etc."

  • "Went there hoping for a great seafood date night, but all expectations went out the door as soon as we walked in and were told that we would have to wait an hour for our reservation. It was total chaos. And once we were seated, that's all we were. Our order was taken and that was it. No water, no bread, no drinks. Definitely need some change in how they run their restaurant."

  • "The food is not what I remember from 2 years ago. The crab soup was like a vegetable soup with little tidbits of crabs. Calamari was overcooked and chewy. I remember the sirloin to be very good but we had to return a medium rare order as it was no rareness in it at all."

  • "Our experience was horrible! They did not have any steaks or salmon at Sunday brunch. The waiter told us they ran out the night before!!! Do not order the crabcakes if you really like jumbo lump MARYLAND style crabcakes. They were horrible and smelled fishy! The wings were decent, but nothing to rave about. We had to wave the manager down to tell him about our bad service, and he did not even have a reasonable response! Why were our salads SALTY???!!! Needless to say, I will not be dining here again or telling anyone else to try it. It is really disappointing because it has a great location and good ambience."

  • "Went with husband and kids. Very lively scene, not too loud. Waited 30 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. The manager was very apologetic and gave us glasses of wine on the house to make up for the wait. We were seated at a back table which was great with having the kids with us. Our waiter was very attentive and the manager checked on us twice. The mussels were huge and the white wine sauce they were served in was light and not too salty. Had the filet mignon which was tender and very juicy. Could cut back on the amount of French fries they gave as a side. Husband had the stuffed shrimp which was very well prepared. Also had a good, varied menu for the kids. Would go back again when in the area!"

  • "The music at Mcloons made it too loud to talk. It had been recommended to us as a nice quiet restaurant where we could hear each other talk. This was not at all the case. We ate fast and left and we were sitting at the back of the restaurant! Why must restaurants always feel they have to have music and earsplitting level?"

  • "Went on a rainy, slow day to see National Harbor. It was disappointing to pay for parking when there is nobody there and it should be an incentive for customers to come. Not under the control of the restaurant. Friendly host, were seated right away, even at a window table. Probably because the place was empty, only about 8 tables occupied on a Sunday lunch. The crab cake sandwich was delicious with an interesting spiced remoulade on a toasted bun; for me the portion was adequate, would not have been so for a grown man. My husband had a crab omelette, which was ok- not enough crab meat and very wet; the Jamaican veggie wrap- disappointing. Server was friendly, but forgetful, took one order incorrectly and blamed it on the kitchen. Why?"

  • "Overall the experience was good. My only real complaint was the hostess/manager. We had a 7:30 reservation for a party of 8. We showed up on time. They told us it would take a while to get a "large party" table put together. We decided to wait at the bar which is in direct line/sight of the hostess stand about 40 feet away. I told them several times where we were going to be. 30 minutes later still no table. We inquired and they claimed to have announced our names and even called us. None of that happened. Took them well over an hour past the reservation time to get us a table after twice giving a large table to another group. The manager was going to "fix" it but never did. The worst hosting job I've ever experienced."

  • "McLoones was the best! The jerk wings...flavorful, the crab cake awesome, the salmon stuffed with crab meat was to die for! There is a great bar and drinks. The best surprise was the wonderful live entertainer who played the guitar singing all the latest hits...just awesome!"

  • "My colleagues and I were attending a conference and came here for dinner on a Saturday night. 8 of us arrived at 6pm to see beautiful sunset. Our waiter Mark was nice and appeared on top of things. Drinks and apps came on time. Crab cakes and calamari were just ok. Service after that was horrible. We were waiting forever and couldn't find server. Finally asked another server to check on our food. 7:55 we received our meals. I had the MCLOONE’S PAELLA. It was obvious that my meal sat under the heat lamps too long. Seafood and chicken were all dry and overcooked. The rice had no flavor at all. One of the worst meals I've had in a while. Others had the stuffed shrimp (pretty small portions for $34) and said it was bland as well."

  • "I arrived as the place opened and even though there were no other patrons I was asked to wait until others in my party arrived. The food was ok, The bisque was very salty and had little to no seafood in it. The best thing about the experience was the view. Marcus provided very good service which made the overall experience one to remember."

  • "Great food, but the service was not good. They forgot to bring the ne of the entrees with our dinner and we had to find our waiter. Then when we finally got it, it was missing half the ingredients. They had to redo it twice and it never was as stated on the menu. Also the waiter forgot our drinks with dinner. The resturant was not very crowded at the time, so no excuse."

  • "We went out Wednesday evening given the possible weather situation for Valentine's Day . Great choice and my wife was very pleased for both Waiter and Chef went out of their way to make the dish she wanted even though it was just taken off the menu on Monday. That extra attention and the fact we both got dishes not on the manu made for a great start to our Valentine's Day weekend."

  • "We had a large group, which the restaurant handled easily. The server knew the menu well, and the food was great. The tables are spaced appropriately, and parking is right next to the door. A very nice evening. Thanks."

  • "I can say that this restaurant has the potential to be one of the best in the area due to the beautiful scenic view and the past spot on the national harbor. However, the type of staff supporting this restaurant is suspect. Maybe I should more focus on certain staff rather than others (to be fair to those who served well). This is my second negative experience with this restaurant. During my first one I thought it was just a hiccup. Now the second one is also bad? Is it a pattern with this place? One thing is for sure...I will not be going back. Don't abuse your location and just think that people will come no matter what...cause I won't. Wait staff was okay. Always checked up and smiley. Hostess and food quality....horrendous."
