Diner Reviews
  • "You probably don't know this place if you're not from Atlanta or haven't been in the area. It is one of the few owner/operated restaurants in a large metropolis. The owner is presently nightly and greets his guests as long time friends. We have enjoyed this place for over a decade and look forward to many more years."

  • "Its filled with old people and the decor is wonderfully dated. Its a flashback for sure. But, great food and a good price. Great staff. Sadly, old-style places like this you don't see much anymore."

  • "First time here. Just moved to Sandy Springs. The food was awesome. It was like the old restaurants I used to go to in NYC. Friendly and professional waiter service, clean and fun. I had the grilled salmon. The desert and coffee was awesome. Bread pudding, coffee and brandy...wow. The hostess was wonderful. She have us the history of the restaurant and a tour. Will definitely be back."

  • "Why drive 500 miles to New Orleans when there is this great restaurant in the middle of Buckhead. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and promptly taken to our table. The service, food, wine an atmosphere were superb. We will definitely be back."

  • "We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation. It took over 30 minutes to received just an appetizer and another 30 minutes to receive our bland entrée. Our waiter never came back to see if we wanted water or other drinks, we had to ask for him. The owners were very courteous and gave us a free bottle of white wine for our wait. They were very sweet couple."

  • "This is a perfect entertainment night out for just an amazing ambience. The singers are amazing and just adorable. Desserts are delicious (the chocolate scoop of velvety smooth melt in your mouth ...OMG heaven) The chef must be a chocolate lover. Gumbo is wonderful Amberjack rocks Mussels very good Popcorn crawfish is like little golden nuggets of goodness. Grouper is delicious All the salads are good. If you ask for anything prepared a special way they are very accommodating and will do it. The drinks are good."

  • "We had a reservation and still had to wait 20 mins for our table. Then, once we were seated it took the waiter another 20 mins to come to our table and aske what we wanted to drink. The service was not that good at all. We arrived at the restaurant, and didn't leave until 10:10, not due to socializing, but due to poor and slow service. Overall, the food was o.k. My husband got the gumbo, and he said that it didn't have much flavor. He enjoyed the blackened amberjack fish. I had the snapper, and it was quite bland. For the price, I would have though the food and service to be much better."

  • "First, the facts: We made Valentine's Day reservations based on other OpenTable reviews. It took 10 minutes to seat us after we arrived at 7:30 for a 7:30 reservation. We came to find a limited $40/meal menu that drastically differed from their standard advertised menu. Every visit from the waitress took around 30minutes (drinks, order, bread, appetizer, entre, desert, check, return of credit card). Of no choice of our own, we left around 10:30-10:45 (3+ hours after our arrival). In addition to the poor service, we were greeted by some ancient form of karaoke. An older woman (I'm guessing 70+) struggled through a half dozen 40'-50's love songs before inviting other 70+ year old amateurs to sing random 40's numbers. I can't recommend it."

  • "We were in search of a unique spot for Valentine's Day, and decided on McKinnon's. Unfortunately, we very quickly became disappointed with our choice. While understandably the restaurant was crowded, the service was - to put it kindly - terrible. Despite offering a limited menu for the evening, we waited over 30 minutes for our appetizers and 75 minutes for our main course. Three times as we waited, random wait staff erroneously attempted to deliver orders intended for other tables - the staff was in complete dissaray. Eventually the 20 or so other guests near us began joking about the ridiculous service - 1 couple demanded a to-go order after waiting so long (on valentine's day, yet!). We will not return."

  • "You wouldn't even notice McKinnons unless you we're looking for it and it certainly doesn't make a great impression from the street. Once inside, though, it is cozy and comfortable. The food is excellent and the service is among the best I have ever had. Give it a try!"

  • "Our server took an extremely long time to come to the table and never told us his name, or offers is anything to drink. The service was deplorable and we will never return."

  • "If you love cajun food go enjoy some delicatable fare here in Atlanta. The Owners, Aziz and Suehalla are wonderful hosts and make you feel so special. We witnessed many of the diners having a few minutes to talk with them and being able to talk about their meal. Great place, great food and a wonderful evening."

  • "I often seek out new establishments to "discover" hidden gems....McKinnon's was never on my radar but was offered as a "valentines" selection by OT. So I gave it a try. Starting with the very unpleasant hostess we waited 20 minutes for our table only to be offered one by the kitchen door! We politely asked for a different table and we escorted back to the lobby for another 15 minute wait. When seated it took multiple hand gestures and ultimately getting up from the table to get the owners attention for someone to bring us water and take our drink order...the whole evening was a series of waiting....The food was cold, portions small and taste was bland. $180 later for two we left feeling cheated and wondering how this restaurant survives?"

  • "We waited a long time to order bad pay. The table next to us had the sane problem. But the good was good."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "This place is a real step back in time and a waste of one too. The food quality and taste was subpar. I had the blackened Amberjack. Unfortunately, the fish was way over cooked and spiced to kill, hence dry and inedible. I could see how, way back in time, this place could've been a destination. But that was a long time ago with different ownership, I'm sure."

  • "My friend grew up near New Orleans and has lived in Atlanta for over 25 years yet had never dined here. When I told her we had reservations she looked at the menu and thought it was very good. Whenever back in NOLA she always dines at Galatoire's so the bar was set extremely high. She knew from the quality of the bread that McKennon's knew how to cook New Orleans! We started with the seafood medley appetizer, very tasty and the sauce was out of this world. I had the étouffée and she had the Bourbon Street scallops, she was quite impressed. This is a wonderful place for an excellent dining experience, I highly recommend McKennon's! The food and wines are outstanding, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere is extremely romantic."

  • "We were met at the door with warmth and eagerness. Coats taken immediately and our table ready. The warm colors and attentive people have a calming effect as you settle into pristine linen and comfortable chairs. Waiters hover in the background as you settle. Drink orders are taken and delivered. The menu offers unique preparations for timeless dishes.. Food is served at a pleasing pace. Our entire evening was relaxed and pleasant. The food very well prepared and the staff extraordinary. We understand the duration of the establishment and wish them many more years of success! If you are looking for a evening filled with good food, amazing service and an inviting atmosphere, go to McKinnon's Louisiane!!!"

  • "This was our first trip to McKinnon's Louisiane. The occasion was to celebrate and treat two of our seafood loving grandsons on the occasion of their graduations from college. It's not easy to please them with food since they grew up with a mother (our daughter) who is a fabulous chef herself and has recently published her own cookbook. To say that they were exceptionally impressed, as were my wife and I, would be an understatement. The food was uniquely creative and excellent. The service was outstanding and the staff was impressively cordial. We look forward to our next dining experience there with many more such occasions to follow."

  • "This was my first time dining at McKinnons, and it was amazing. The service, the ambience, and the food! We had oysters Rockefeller and I had the scallops, and for dessert we split the bread pudding. The sauce was delicious and the scallops were like butter. The oysters were delicious and big, and the bread pudding was a perfect end to thee meal. To drink, we each had a sazerac. In addition, Aziz and his wife talked to every table and made us feel very welcome. Obviously, we were not the only ones in the restaurant, but he made us feel like we were. Really good time. We went on a Friday night and I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was no valet parking, which was not a problem as there was no trouble finding a parking place."

  • "Started with the calamari Best ever. Gumbo was bland. No kick to a gumbo? Fried shrimp came out soggy but the fried fish and oysters were steady and helped the overall visit"

  • "This was a very disappointing experience. My wife and I decided to celebrate our anniversary here based on previous reviews. When we arrived the restaurant was empty outside of one other couple and only one other couple came in the entire time we were dining. Even though the restaurant was empty we decided to stay which was a big mistake. The food was average at best and it appears the hostess was also our waiter and bartender, We joked that he may have even be in the back cokking the food. Definitely do not recommend and we will not return."

  • "Stayed at Grand Hyatt Atlanta. Looking for a walking-distance dinner. This pops up. What a find! Mr. Aziz and his staff are so gracious, welcoming. Piano bar just off entrance, not exactly what we were looking for, but patrons were having fun. Several dining rooms, one occupied by an engagement party, which was lively, of course! We were in the far room, much quieter. What nice people waiting on us. What fabulous food. Just a great evening. Please visit and tell Mr. Aziz hello."

  • "Started with Oysters Rockefeller, and they were great. I had the soft shell crab with BBQ Shrimp, wife had soft shell crab with Hollandaise. Hers was better. Finished with bread pudding but they forgot the whiskey sauce. When it quickly arrived, it was worth the wait. Had a great time. It reminded me a great dining in Atlanta 30-40 years ago. We'll be back. The bar is fun."

  • "Went here for New Years Eve dinner. It was sooooooo good! Service was excellent. Had the Blackjack fish and shrimp, recommended by my waitress. Perfect! Nothing was over the top spicy for those who don't like the heat of Cajun cooking! My favorite thing was the Praline Cheesecake! Very romantic atmosphere; the majority of the guests were a little older though. If you don't mind that, then this is your place!"
