The food and service are always great. The bar is fun, but always packed -- it's too small for a restaurant that draws a consistent crowd. We were running late due to an interstate stoppage, but the hostess greeted us with a pleasant smile and a warm welcome. Our server (Antonio) was top notch. My Swordfish was tender and cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the Prime Rib, which was huge and done exactly as he had ordered. The Lobster Mashed Potatoes were creamy and topped with deliscious hunks of lobster meat. But the service needs tweaking. Several of the items we ordered were out and out forgotten. The waiter spilled my wife's water on my coat, which was forgiven, but then had to be asked to come back and fill her glass which remained empty for 15 minutes. Another example: we asked for coffee with our desert but it never came, and after we had finished our desert, we were ready for the check and didn't even mentioned it. We just returned from a week in NYC, of dining, theater and shopping. Not one restaurant in NY approached the quality, the preparation, the service and especially the ambience ofvMcKendricks. If you enjoy steak...it is exceptionally tender, flavorful with mild char. Seafood, salads, sides are also great. The bartender really knows how to make a proper Manhattan or Martini... And the servers and staff are all excellent. Wines list is extensive, but by the glass offerings are also excellent. McKendrick's is well-known for their steaks, and I really admire a restaurant that can give me a medium-rare filet that is warm in the middle! On a recent visit I had the appetizer special: fried oysters (you must try them--delicious!), caesar salad, 8 oz filet, and two sides: garlic-parmesan french fries, roasted okra. Everything was wonderful. Service is impeccable, and it is a real delight to watch their attention to diners. Wine list was very good, and the bar makes excellent martinis. The noise level was high due to the number of groups around us. The Mater D (Mark) and our Waiter (Jeff) were both very gracious and excellent. We will return, but not frequently due to the cost and noise level. Within 5 minutes we had reservations for 30 minutes later and that was the greatest mistake a restaurant has ever made for me. The service was excellent and the food was outstanding, we will definately be dining at McKendrick's Steakhouse again. We had already dubbed Ruth's Chris as our place for a romantic dinner on date night but after the first 15 minutes at McKendrick's they had been replaced. The atmosphere was romantic and the dinner was delicious. Each item we had was perfect. The service was outstanding and the even gave us a nice surprise after dinner with special anniversary dessert. We had called weeks in advance and the hostess said that was the best they could do when we got there. (Very rude hostesses), also no imput from the manager to make it better.
I love the food and service (Paul was great), and it saved the experience since this is one of my favorites. He choose the restaurant and we were not dispappointed. the food was great, especially the steaks and mushrooms. We ordered drinks, tomatoe bisque and lobster bisque. The lobster bisque was very good with the special of the day, th etomatoe being just good. We all ordered steaks, ribeyes and KC cut. All were fabulous. The side dishes are huge so we shared. We ordered mushrooms, baked potato, asparugus, and escaloped potatoes. The mushrooms were fabulous with the other dishes being very good.
They did provide my son a birthday desert which he liked so mush that he hardly shared.

We were celebrating my son's 15th birthday and he is a fan of the restaurant! We were seated as promised in a nice banquette, and our favorite waiter, Dee, was a surprise. Salads were scrumptious. The steaks were cooked to perfection, and the brussell sprouts were divine!
This place is in our opinion a tried and true favorite. Most of the staff were exceptionally friendly. The only one who was not was our waiter, but he wasn't rude, just not as friendly. I ordered the crab cocktail, the ribeye and the lobster mashed potatoes. I'll start with the potatoes. I've ordered these in other places and they come with tiny pieces of lobster that are almost impossible to identify. Not here. Here the potatoes were topped by large chunks of lobster and both parts were amazingly good. My ribeye was to die for, though too much food for me so we got to have leftovers too. My husband got the caprese salad, a fillet and the okra. Everything was excellent and more, especially the service and the wine list. As his birthday fell on Good Friday, we ate seafood, which was delicious. Our waiter brought a slice of their delicious ice cream cake with a candle for dad for dessert which was again, delicious. It was also very quiet there due to the holiday and that we dined early.
McKendricks is a wonderful restaurant. Why travel to Buckhead for Chops, The Palm or Bones when you have this gem in Dunwoody? It is at least comparable, if not better in every aspect. You can get a decent steak lots of places, but McKendrick's delivers more. The food is always terrific, but the people are a lot more like family. Most of the staff has been there forever and it is like they are welcoming you to their special place. I have lunch at McKendrick's often and it always is a great experience. My only complaint ever is that when the restaurant is full, it can be too loud to really converse with your table mates. On this visit, they were only about two-thirds full and it made a huge difference. Just enough noise that you could not hear conversations at other tables, and just quiet enough to really enjoy being with my own group. A perfect experience.3/1/2013 12:00:00 AMReally great dinner!Really amazing dry aged ribeye. On par with Rathbun Steak, actually very difficult to pick which is better. The sides were also delicious which I think is what differentiates between top steakhouses. The steak is going to be good, but how good are the sides... The mac and cheese was scrumptious with the browned cheese and nice salty rich cheese flavor. The garlic spinach was also very good, similar to Rathbun. Also had the grouper with Asian ginger soy sauce which was nice and not sweet. Great grill flavor on the fish too. All around a really solid meal.
