A word from McCray's Tavern - West Village
McCray's Tavern at the West Village is definitely one of Smyrna's hidden gems. Redefining the concept of American neighborhood bar and grill, this instant classic is a cornerstone in Vinings, and a local favorite.
McCray's Tavern boasts 49 taps with an eclectic selection of draft beers that compliment its exceptional American fare. Everything is prepared from only the highest quality and freshest local ingredients. Besides our diverse menu, our executive chef always has something special to offer every night of the week. Creating specials such as bacon-crusted meatloaf, to Rack of Lamb, this local gastro pub serves anything but "bar food."

This was our first visit to McCray's. We chose it based on location as we had people coming from Smyrna and several places in Atlanta, but didn't know much about it. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will visit it again. The food was quite good and the portions were generous. Service was excellent as well.

I made a reservation for a large party of ten the morning of the reservation. Got a confirmation email that my reservation was confirmed. An hour or so before the reservation, McCray's call me to tell me they couldn't accommodate my party. I had to scramble online and drive around to restaurants to find a location that could seat ten people in such short notice. The manager I spoke with did not seem concerned at all that she was cancelling my reservation in such short notice.

I reserved a table for a party of 10 on a midweek day at 11:45am. Our group from work was honoring a lady in our group who was retiring. The table was ready for us when we arrived but we waited a long for our food once we placed our order. The server was a young lady who had no personality. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and it was a poor representation of an authentic sandwich. Wrong bread and it was grilled on a panini press with the grooves in it. Let's call it a play on a Cuban sandwich. Drink refill offers from the server slacked off near the end of out meal. It was my first visit and my last. It's a shame because the location at the West Villiage is very nice.

Server was very passive. Rejected my request to substitute sides; then the entree arrived. It was a piece of grilled chicken breast, mystery dumplings and spinach all drowning in a white, soupy sauce. My stomach exploded 30 minutes after consuming this dish. We will give them a second chance, but first experience was disappointing.

McCrays only does brunch a few times a year but they do it quite well. A wide assortment of hot, cold, breakfast and lunch entrees and with great tasting results. Great desert selections as well. And unlike most brunches they tailor the menu to make it work for kids as well. It was a prefect weather day which made sitting on the patios very comfortable.

Good food, good drinks, good service, good value...as always. The only blip was that our reservation was for five people and we were seated in the bar at a table for four. We were cram packed. But on a positive note, the bar was rockin' loud and our close proximity to each other made it easier to converse!

Enjoyed McCray's on my first visit on Saturday. Food selection & portions were good. Really enjoyed my steak salad that included fries - yum! The best of both worlds! The only issue I had was the server having a large group to serve in addition to my table and two others. An additional server was definitely needed for that many people. Despite this, he was still very accommodating. Will return!

If you live in the Vinings/Smyrna area, come eat here! The food & service is always awesome (in 6+ years never had a complaint)! If your into sports this place is awesome - nice energy, but you can still enjoy the game. If your a beer aficionado, pop it, they have a plethora of draft beers. The brunch on Sunday is fantastic; the steak & eggs entree is enough for 3 & the skillets are always a good choice; and who can pass up a $5.00 bloody mary bar (great pour of a good vodka)?! Ask for Whitney, shes fantastic, (as is the entire staff).

  • Not up to Pastrami standards
    Fran
    Dined on 10/12/2013
A group of four of us went and had pastrami sandwiches. They were not what we expected. All had dried pastrami that seems like they tried to fry in oil to juice it up. All sandwiches were served on white bread, not toasted, but just plain white bread. Not good. What was good was the beer selection and our waiter. This restaurant is located in an upscale area and you would think that the food would be better then it was. We won't be dining there again or recommending it.

We were seated promptly, but we were not given a wine / beer list. When the waitress finally arrived at our table to take drink orders (after 5 minutes), she realized we didn't have drink menus, so she left to go get them. She returned with a wine & cocktail list (but no beer list) about 4 minutes later, then disappeared again. Although I repeated my order twice, my order came out wrong. So we wait for the waitress to come over to check on us so that we can ask for this to be corrected.... and we wait... finally we just give up on waiting on her to check that our food came out correctly -- we actually have to get up and go inside to get someone to help us with the meal they messed up. Lastly, the food was bland.

I have been at McCray's Tavern before but never for Sunday Brunch. We arrived around 11:30 and there were only a few customers in the restaurant. The food was okay but not great. Brunch is off the menu so there are only about 10 items. You can, however, order off the regular menu. I recommend this place for lunch or dinner but not for brunch.

We went for Mother's Day brunch. There was a buffet that was reasonably priced for the menu. Their regular menu was also available if you didn't want the buffet, which a lot of places don't do. Noticed at times some of the music was not fitting for the occasion, but it was music I liked so it didn't bother me. We had a party of 8 that include a 5 yr old and 22 month old. They ate their food without issue. Kids ate free. We all left saying we would do it again.
