The ambiance of McCrady's is excellent. The bar is fabulous. The food superb with the exception of the 2 desserts we had, which were just ok (a chocolate torte and berry mousse). The service was very good, but not exceptional as one member of the crew had a little difficulty remembering the construction/ingredients of the meal and our plates were swapped (there were only 2 of us). The portions are small, and after the 4 courses, I wasn't full. I'm a slim person (5'10, 150lbs :-), and at 4 servings, it should have been large enough so that I wasn't hungry at the conclusion of the meal. None the less, the food was very good and I think most foodies will be impressed with the presentation and construction of their meal.

As I understand it, the menu changes regularly, so there's no reason to discuss specific dishes. Having said that, each diner has a choic of roughly three appetizers, two fish dishes, three meat dishes, and three desserts. Being oenophiles, we opted for and were very impressed with the sommelier's wine pairings--they were spot on (with the possible exception of a banana liqueur paired with the banana cake, a case of overkill). Service is excellent, plate presentation is exceptional, noise level is low, and this is fine dining at it best.

  • Great Birthday Dinner!

We took our 5 children (ages 8, 7, 5, 3, and 1) out for a birthday dinner for Dad. The menu was a bit of a surprise (4 course dinner for $65/person), but Gina our waitress was AMAZING and helped guide us through what turned out to be a lovely dinner with lots of new, interesting, flavorful, local, and seasonal foods to try. While not necessarily a "Kid-friendly" restaurant, the staff was wonderful and we felt very comfortable. A side-note, I had a cabernet from Lebanon that was fantastic.

  • Great Presentation, where is flavor

We love the effort to go with local ingredients, and the food presentations were top notch. Problem was only with flavor-- there wasn't much. Very bland flavor profiles in most dishes. The descriptions were much better than the results. Appetizers were ok (crab and butternut soup, steak tartare) but the fish and main were just bland, albeit beautifully presented (in tiny portions). Not sure that this restaurant has found its groove.

Chef Sean and his team continue to set the bar higher and higher. The way to order is with at least 3-4 people so you can sample just about everything on the menu. It was all impeccably prepared, arranged and consumed with delight! And remember - even if you don't see it on the menu, order some Charleston Ice Cream - ahhhh, Carolina Gold Rice...

McCrady's is the tip of chef Sean Brock's food pyramid and rightly so. Great food, superb service, and the space is magical. The locals of Charleston don't know how good they have it. My only suggestion, definitely pay the extra $20 for the five "snacks". It was one of our favorite courses.

After one of the most miserable days of my life, we entered McCrady's to find ourselves transported to a different time and place. Charleston was experiencing record high temperatures and humidity on our first day there. I was ready to go home. McCrady's greeted us warmly and sat us at a wonderful table. After an initial drink to cool down and calm down, the waiter explained the menu selections. Although you have limited choices, they were all great. The price fix was another pleasant surprise. I chose to do the wine paring with 4 courses and was thrilled with each one. Food was fresh, original, and fabulous. Because of that meal, we stayed the rest of the week but no other meal could compare!

We were originally put-off by the requirement of the full four course meal - thought it would be too much food - but were delightfully surprised to find everything proportioned just right. Each course was unique and delicious but the beef tartar, the grouper and the duck were particularly spectacular. The espresso (which surprisingly many fine restaurants don't serve) was beautifully flavored and a marvelous finish. One additional point we recommend is the accompanying wine paired selections (which we originally thought a bit pricey) with the wines being ones we'd NEVER would have thought to order and each a marvelous accompaniment. We recommend McCrady's to anyone with time to spare looking for a full meal in a lovely setting. Clear winner

Heard about McCrady's by more than one friend as a must-do restaurant. Fortunately, was only a few steps from our resort. Was the best meal we had on our entire Charleston/Savannah week-long trip. In addition to the unique and well-proportioned multiple-course meal, the service was incredible. Also, loved the history of the restaurant going back into the 1700s. It's location off of a historic cobble-stone alley was perfect!!

my husband and I enjoy fine dining frequently and we especially enjoy tasting menus with a wine pairing... so we are used to smaller portions and the creativity that can be involved in pairing... but our dinner here was almost laughable in it's portions... the final entree (a delicious melt in your mouth rib eye) was no bigger than a golfball. and the wine pairing was very creative (a sherry, a glass of cider) but some of the offerings were frankly just not that great. both of our desserts were meh and we didn't finish them. we left still hungry. our waiter was lovely and very knowledgable but still I would never go here again. If you spend $400 on dinner you should at least feel you had an actual meal.

This was one of the best meals of my life. Unlike in some foodie places, all those surprising, unusual descriptions on the menu like "birchbark pickled blueberries" weren't just fancy names -- they actually tasted like those things, and you could tell that some creative genius slaved over the recipes for a very long time to come up with something so original and delicious that eating them was like a meditation. The prices are actually pretty reasonable considering what they're doing, and the ambiance is romantic and beautiful. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary, and the staff went out of their way not only to serve us royally but also to honor the occasion in a subtle, elegant way. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

My daughter and I visited Charleston for the first time and ate in some amazing restaurants during our stay. McCrady's was far and above the rest. The entire experience - from the service, the ambience, the food, the cocktails, the wine - was impeccable. Chef Brock is able to combine unique flavors that all come together in your mouth and just "pop." The plates of food are presented beautifully. I could go on, but most importantly, we really had fun!!! This was a memorable meal. Thank you, McCrady's staff, for making it happen!!

The only menu option is a 65$ 4 course fixed menu. The food was great I'd just like to have an option to order what I want and how much. There are also no vegetarian options unless you want to just omit the protein off each dish. It's like the limitations of restaurant week without the discount. Great food though.

We haven't been to McCrady's in a few years. They have changed their menu to a very few limited options served over 4 courses. My wife is a meat and potatoes girl who can almost always find a good steak and be happy but the chef's creativity was just a little too much for both of us. Overall, the quality of the food was superb but the combinations and limited selection made this a not-so-great night and we didn't feel as though we got a good value for the price that we paid. Fortunately, there are lots of awesome restaurants in Charleston, McCrady's is just not our thing any more. On a positive note, the service and all of the staff were absolutely perfect.

We chose McCrady's over other restaurants for the option of the wine pairing which we did order. We each also ordered the pre-meal snack with the wine selection. My only critique on the meal itself was the pork which was very chewy and very greasy. Where I have a big issue spending $350 on a meal for the two of us is that with a wine pairing meal - you usually get the wine with the course. From the very beginning and throughout the meal each wine was brought but the course was a good 15 minutes later, leaving very little wine in the glass to accompany the food. We would have been much better served ordering a nice bottle of wine - or two.
