A word from McCormick's Fish House - Seattle
McCormick's Fish House & Bar is Seattle's classic seafood restaurant, reminiscent of traditional fish houses on the East Coast and San Francisco, and a Seattle dining institution for more than 30 years.

Built in 1927 as Seattle's Oakland Hotel, the McCormick's Fish House building is now a bastion of old-Seattle in the shadow of the towering 76 story Columbia Center. Multi-level dining areas, aged dark wood and brass and walls thick with nostalgic memorabilia give McCormick's a traditional and intimate feel.

McCormick's Fish House pioneered the "fresh sheet" in Seattle's restaurant scene. Originally featuring five or six items daily, today the restaurant features more than 20 varieties of fresh seafood listed daily on the ever-changing menu.

The venerable bar features a full selection of liquors, beers, and an extensive wine list. McCormick's oyster bar also offers a wide selection of fresh oysters each day.

  • "Traffic was horrid--1'45" minutes to go 20 miles and it was raining. They held a table for us, noted that we had a 7:30 symphony date and plated the single order restaurant week special for two without prompting. We had a leisurly meal and made it in good time to Benaroya. The fish was perfect and the mashed just right. We'd had terrific asian fusion green beans the prior week at a nearby restaurant. Last night's beans were OK but not the equal. The flan was a great finish."

  • "The food was good and our waiter was polite. However, the basics were lost. If you're a restaurant that provides fresh warm sourdough bread to your guests, please remember that a table of two would like this bread as well and not just watch everyone around them get this special treat. Secondly, my drink ran dry for about 10 minutes before I was offered a refill. It was another 10 minutes later that I finally received my refill. My wife was never offered a refill. At $3.29 for a fountain soda, get the lead out. With all the excellent choices for lunch in this town, we certainly won't be returning."

  • "I wanted to take a dear friend I've worked with for many years out for a special lunch. McCormick's was close by and I was able to make reservations for 11:30, thereby avoiding the lunch time rush. The service was prompt and friendly but not intrusive. We each ordered a different seafood dish and both were excellent. The waiter was open to substituting sides to accommodate our dietary needs. The sound level was fairly high but we didn't have any trouble hearing each other. It was a very pleasant "last lunch" experiences. The prices were also very reasonable and the portions generous without being excessive. I will definitely use this restaurant again and will recommend it to friends."

  • "Food was very good, cocktails very good, service was good and table placement was just what we asked for. Very accommodating when splitting menu items. Décor seemed a little tired.0"

  • "Over the years, I've always loved the McCormick's Fish House Seattle locations. The Seattle locations have historically been McCormick's Gold standard and have always been better than their chains in the midwestern states. However, now the Seattle locations aren't what they use to be. Although I ordered my fish with little oil and grilled, the fish and crust of the fish just seem to lack the flavor and texture I remember from years past. I hate to say it, but I could have stayed home and prepared the same meal better myself. If I can prepare the meal better, it's hardly worth going out."

  • "A new coworker and I dined here as an excuse to get away from the office and have a not so noticeable meeting. The place filled quickly on our rainy Seattle day and we were glad that we had reservations. There is a lunch menu that offers a little of this and a little of that... I had the chowder and side salad and she the hamburger and fires. Nice job on both dishes. The table server was very professional... someone who did her job well and enjoyed it. Nice touch. It was a very enjoyable and affordable lunch stop!"

  • "My friend and I reserved a table online for the big Seahawks parade. We got in as soon as the restaurant opened at 11am and were promptly escorted to our spot near the back. Once seated we were treated like queens by our wonderful server Tina. She helped us choose a most delicious selection of appetizers and cocktails. Even though we couldn't see the parade from our table, it was a great place to get out of the 20degree temps! Besides, they let us take our cocktails out to the area in front within he iron gates and we got some great views from there! It really was a day to remember and made that much more special with the great food and excellent service from our friends at McCormicks!!!"

  • "Service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive. Seafood was fresh and well prepared, not over cooked. Accompaniments were nice, oysters were fresh overall a very pleasant experience."

  • "We had a great time. People around us were quiet, waiter was attentive, helpful and friendly. Restaurant was full but didn't feel frantic and we took our time through a 2 hour dinner. Menu was typical of a fish house with a few other good choices as well. Salads were cold and fresh, sole was a little salty in its crust but otherwise great and the steelhead was wonderful. We had wine by the glass and only needed one apiece because of the generous pour. We shared an apple pie dessert with ice cream and had coffee. All told, $95 plus tip. I would recommend to anyone wanting a place they can talk to their special other and do it without shouting, a precious rarity."

  • "We went to this great restaurant in 1991 for our Honeymoon. We have spoken about someday coming back to Seattle. This time we went with another couple and we had the best night. The service was great, friendly and professional. The food was fantastic. The wine was so great, what we did not finish we took back to the Fairmont hotel and had for a nightcap. This is the type of place that you will always remember."

  • "We were looking for a place that we could meet with a old childhood friend and eat, drink, and talk. We wanted a place that had good food and a place that wasn't so loud you couldn't talk and this met our needs. We had a booth in the back. We had a nice evening catching up."

  • "I have to give special recognition to McCormick's Fish House for being able to accommodate guests during the insanity that was the Seahawks Victory Celebration on February 5th. Their restaurant is right there on 4th Ave, along the parade route, but they were able to serve their guests with great food and spirits, and maintain a positive attitude throughout it all. Great job! The food was fantastic, and my family of six had a day they will never forget."

  • "I frequently visit this McCormick's for lunch. The service is always very fast and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The fish dishes, of course, are very good. The salads are fairly standard."

  • "Our waiter, Tom was just obnoxious. He immediately pointed out the things on the menu that were his favorites. It is nice for a server to have an opinion but unless I ask him what he would recommend, I don't really care. He then began pushing the Landry's card, began to tell all the benefits, and asked it I had one. He came back a 2nd time before we ordered and again, pointed out a couple of other things that we should consider ordering. When he brought the bill, he dropped it off and 2 seconds later came by and picked it up thinking I had put my card in it. First off - I didn't really have time to do so, and usually the card would be peeking out of the top had I done so. I had to call to him to bring it back."

  • "Some of the best seafood in Seattle - enjoyed the fresh oyster appetizer and salmon dinner. Fantastic service - attentive, accurate and great wine advice. Great ambiance; quiet and easy to interact. Upside down apple pie was to die for. Close proximity to downtown Seattle so close to the theater and symphony."

  • "We were a party of 3; upper booth; fairly quiet; service excellent. My out-of-town pilot-friend always wants seafood when he is in town & usually stays at the Renaissance. A short walk (3-4 blks) & we were not disappointed!"

  • "Went there after work with a friend, started in the bar and moved over for dining. The scallops and shallot and potato pancakes was incredible! Highly recommend this. In fact I wished they would serve the shallot/potato pancakes separately as a side. Creme brulee for dessert - it was the best creme brulee I have had to date!"

  • "This restaurant was very close to Excutive Hotel Pacific and faced a street so that even if you come alone at night, it will be safe for a woman. They took good care of me. I felt comfortable by their excellent service."

  • "After searching for just the right place to celebrate my wife's 50th, we settled on McCormicks and will go back! Great service, excellent food and wonderful service. They started out by personalizing our menus for Robins birthday and it just kept getting better.I had the sole and was amazed. My wife had the cod and loved it also. The Creme Broulae (sp) was worth going for all by itself. A little pricey though. Two dinners, drinks and one dessert was 150 with tip. I tend to be a naysayer, but in this case I say YES!"

  • "Five long-time friends met for a Holiday lunch, as they have for many years running. Booth was just fine. Wait staff was appropriate in terms of knowing when to ask about drinks, food, etc. Sounds/ambiance were acceptable for a lunch time event. Food was spot on, though mostly we ordered salads which aren't difficult to prepare and serve. Thanks to McCormick's for another special event."

  • "McCormick has a solid reputation as a great place for quality seafood and steaks. My experience was disappointing. on a Saturday evening the restaurant was almost empty so the urban ambiance I was hoping for was unrealized. The salmon I ordered was overcooked and underseasoned. The accompanying beets had too much pepper and one bite was more than enough. Given the price point of the menu and the reputation of this restaurant, overall I was not impressed."

  • "First time to McCormick's Fish House. I have been to the other locations but never this one. We were a group of 6 trying to find a last minute place to eat on a Saturday night and they came through. Great location, great service and great food. I would recommend this location just as highly as I would any of the other McCormick and Schmicks!"

  • "We have eaten at this particular McCormick's Fish House before on weekday evenings prior to an event. This time we ate there on a Saturday and found a world of difference. The food was fair at best; we were were told there was a new chef in the kitchen. One of us ordered the same menu as the previous month (the fall special with appetizer). Everything underwhelmed and disappointed where before it was delicious."

  • "McCorkmick’s Fish House in Seattle is one of our oldest and most trusted restaurants. If you are looking for fresh seafood this is the spot. The menu changes twice daily depending upon what seafood is fresh. It is a downtown favorite. Excellent food and service."

  • "Our server was very engaging and very knowledgable about the menu. She was not over the top, but she made sure our drinks were always full and used plates and utensils were removed promptly. Great atmosphere and good food. The plates lacked presentation, but the taste was great."

  • "This restaurant did provide a restaurant week special even though it was featured as a participator for lunch. Our waiter told us, "We have a big enough lunch clientele so 'we' aren't providing a restaurant week lunch special" so we ordered off the regular menu. One of the our party requested crisp bacon but received half cooked bacon. Two of us ordered fish and chips and we received the saltiest fish and chips we ever tasted. Our waiter never asked us how our food was and only came back to see if we wanted dessert. It was a very disappointing lunch."

  • "We were looking for a uniquely Seattle seafood meal, and remembered McCormick's from a previous visit 25 years earlier as having a seasonal salmon menu. Our latest visit was unique in a less desirable way. Monday evening made the place very lightly patronized so,our reservation was unnecessary. While the food was satisfactory (good but not amazing; we had grilled salmon with roasted vegetables), the wait staff were manic to the point of annoying, and one of the bussers appeared to be high on something and was behaving bizarrely. We finished our meals and left as soon as we could. Not the experience we were looking for."

  • "How far this restaurant has fallen in terms of food and service. The food used to be wonderful, now it's a stretch to call it mediocre. Don't get me started on service, my waiter was awful."

  • "The reception was thoroughly enjoyable, but I could sense, that the take-over by Landry has changed the eatery a great deal...The heirloom tomato gazpacho was simply delicious! The service was OK, even though not friendly or warm. I was comforted knowing, that my two gift cards by McCormick&Schmick will be accepted until End 2013."
