A word from McCormick's Fish House - Seattle
McCormick's Fish House & Bar is Seattle's classic seafood restaurant, reminiscent of traditional fish houses on the East Coast and San Francisco, and a Seattle dining institution for more than 30 years.

Built in 1927 as Seattle's Oakland Hotel, the McCormick's Fish House building is now a bastion of old-Seattle in the shadow of the towering 76 story Columbia Center. Multi-level dining areas, aged dark wood and brass and walls thick with nostalgic memorabilia give McCormick's a traditional and intimate feel.

McCormick's Fish House pioneered the "fresh sheet" in Seattle's restaurant scene. Originally featuring five or six items daily, today the restaurant features more than 20 varieties of fresh seafood listed daily on the ever-changing menu.

The venerable bar features a full selection of liquors, beers, and an extensive wine list. McCormick's oyster bar also offers a wide selection of fresh oysters each day.

Diner Reviews
  • "The mussels were outstanding. Unfortunately the restaurant was out of trout which is my wife's favorite dish."

  • "Can't beat the fish. Simply outstanding. The service staff was always there, but not obtrusive. Wine selection had some notables, but also some good choices that are not as well known. Thoroughly enjoyable."

  • "Had lunch with former colleagues, as we have for once or twice a year for the past 13 years, at McCormick's Fish House. As always, service was great, food was very tasty (we're more for talking at lunch than into fine dining), and noise level was a bit high (not unusual for this restaurant during lunch). Had a great experience. Will return in December for holiday lunch get together."

  • "No problem, thanks to Open Table. Made the reservation on line at 11:30 for 11:45 and in the time it took to walk the 4 blocks from our office, McCormicks had our table ready - despite a line already forming for those unfortunate enough not to use Open Table. All diners reported satisfaction with the choice, both for the food and the service which kept a difficult to serve table well stocked with drink & bread refills. Highly recommend the salmon saute."

  • "I chose McCormick's to dine before a ballgame based on reputation and proximity to where we were. While the staff was friendly, they were a little too friendly and far too chatty, especially as we had stated we were headed to the game. Each course took longer than normal to arrive, far longer than acceptable. This was a bit odd since it was early in the evening and the restaurant was mostly empty. The food was ok, just ok, and expensive for what they offered. Nothing to write home (or on Open Table) about. This is not a place I would rush back to. If you like average pedestrian food, this might be for you, but with the plethora of great restaurants Seattle has to offer, I can go elsewhere."

  • "I simply love my two favorites here and come back all the time just to have the Northwest Salmon Saute and the Deep Fried Oyster. Please never take it of the menu, it's our lunch time favorites. The service is fast and the staff is always friendly and take the time to greet us."

  • "Have been here for lunch and happy hour many times, but dinner was terrible. The food was so-so. But, our waitress was awful. She was overly familiar and forgot what we ordered. I asked for rice substitute but got mashed potatoes. My cousin asked for extra vegetables instead of potatoes and just got regular amount of veggies. His plate looked empty. We asked for two side orders and they came late after we reminded our waitress. I was embarrassed that I had recommended this place for out-of-town guests."

  • "average, nothing special. My halibut was a bit overcooked and dry"

  • "I recommend getting a bunch of the small plates. We were able to sample so many delicious choices that way: crabcakes, oysters, scallops, shrimp, calamari. The calamari was the best we have ever had. The oysters were so FRESH tasting. It was perfect with a couple of drinks and the waiter was totally fine with us making that choice rather than entrees. The bloody mary was GREAT. Don't forget dessert, creme brulee and cheesecake were yummy."

  • "Needed a lunch meeting with space for some work, good food, and ability to talk. This fit the whole bill! It got a bit expensive for lunch, but, I think the value was there for the meeting space."

  • "Consistently excellent food and service; a Seattle downtown classic. We come to Seattle (from SF Bay Area) once a year (or more) and have done so for 20+ years. Our tradition is first night at McCormick's and we have never been disappointed."

  • "The Good: Hostess was lovely & professional. Food was not great but good. The Bad: Substandard service. In spite of placing a reservation several days in advance for our party of 6 the table was not ready when we arrived. Once seated it seemed to take an inordinate amount of time for our waitress to provide water, menus, take food orders,, serve the food, etc. Appropriate flatware was not offered (i.e., no soup spoon offered with Gumbo). Our waitress seemed to be overwhelmed and not able to prioritize her tables properly. Afterwards I contacted the restaurant asking for contact information of a general manager. 2 days with no response. Disappointed and probably will not return."

  • "Not much to say, it was good, not great and awesome like I thought it would be. Worth the money? I would say yes, about right on target. I have had alot better, and worse. Overall OK."

  • "We were on vacation in Van &thought we'd drive out to Seattle to check it out. By the time we were hungry for dinner I used the app to see what was close by since we were just cruising around checking out the city. Awesome find! There wasn't much stores and restaurants around the area so I'm glad we still decided to go here after scoping out the neighbourhood. Very close to the water, beautiful place, AMAZING FOOD! Everything was perfect, we got baked oysters to start (I wish we got more), Caesar salad (how can a simple salad be so GOOD), I got the halibut for myself and I believe my bf got the salmon. Best seafood ever. Also our waiter was a sweet gentlemen! ld definitely recommend and return if I'm ever in the city again. I WANNA GO BACK!"

  • "If you want a wide range of seafood which is excellently prepared and presented, this Seattle restaurant should be on your list. The feel of the interior is old-style in comfort with several floor level changes but with a view across the restaurant to the outside. "

  • "McCormick's Fish House is a great place for a lunch meeting, first day lunch with a new employee or a birthday celebration with a group of co-workers. It also has a great happy hour menu and is conveniently located on 4th Avenue, making it a fun place for a drink and quick bite to eat before heading to an after-work cultural or sporting event or before heading off on your evening commute."

  • "Traffic was horrid--1'45" minutes to go 20 miles and it was raining. They held a table for us, noted that we had a 7:30 symphony date and plated the single order restaurant week special for two without prompting. We had a leisurly meal and made it in good time to Benaroya. The fish was perfect and the mashed just right. We'd had terrific asian fusion green beans the prior week at a nearby restaurant. Last night's beans were OK but not the equal. The flan was a great finish."

  • "The food was good and our waiter was polite. However, the basics were lost. If you're a restaurant that provides fresh warm sourdough bread to your guests, please remember that a table of two would like this bread as well and not just watch everyone around them get this special treat. Secondly, my drink ran dry for about 10 minutes before I was offered a refill. It was another 10 minutes later that I finally received my refill. My wife was never offered a refill. At $3.29 for a fountain soda, get the lead out. With all the excellent choices for lunch in this town, we certainly won't be returning."

  • "I wanted to take a dear friend I've worked with for many years out for a special lunch. McCormick's was close by and I was able to make reservations for 11:30, thereby avoiding the lunch time rush. The service was prompt and friendly but not intrusive. We each ordered a different seafood dish and both were excellent. The waiter was open to substituting sides to accommodate our dietary needs. The sound level was fairly high but we didn't have any trouble hearing each other. It was a very pleasant "last lunch" experiences. The prices were also very reasonable and the portions generous without being excessive. I will definitely use this restaurant again and will recommend it to friends."

  • "Over the years, I've always loved the McCormick's Fish House Seattle locations. The Seattle locations have historically been McCormick's Gold standard and have always been better than their chains in the midwestern states. However, now the Seattle locations aren't what they use to be. Although I ordered my fish with little oil and grilled, the fish and crust of the fish just seem to lack the flavor and texture I remember from years past. I hate to say it, but I could have stayed home and prepared the same meal better myself. If I can prepare the meal better, it's hardly worth going out."

  • "We went to this great restaurant in 1991 for our Honeymoon. We have spoken about someday coming back to Seattle. This time we went with another couple and we had the best night. The service was great, friendly and professional. The food was fantastic. The wine was so great, what we did not finish we took back to the Fairmont hotel and had for a nightcap. This is the type of place that you will always remember."

  • "We had a great time. People around us were quiet, waiter was attentive, helpful and friendly. Restaurant was full but didn't feel frantic and we took our time through a 2 hour dinner. Menu was typical of a fish house with a few other good choices as well. Salads were cold and fresh, sole was a little salty in its crust but otherwise great and the steelhead was wonderful. We had wine by the glass and only needed one apiece because of the generous pour. We shared an apple pie dessert with ice cream and had coffee. All told, $95 plus tip. I would recommend to anyone wanting a place they can talk to their special other and do it without shouting, a precious rarity."

  • "We were looking for a place that we could meet with a old childhood friend and eat, drink, and talk. We wanted a place that had good food and a place that wasn't so loud you couldn't talk and this met our needs. We had a booth in the back. We had a nice evening catching up."

  • "I have to give special recognition to McCormick's Fish House for being able to accommodate guests during the insanity that was the Seahawks Victory Celebration on February 5th. Their restaurant is right there on 4th Ave, along the parade route, but they were able to serve their guests with great food and spirits, and maintain a positive attitude throughout it all. Great job! The food was fantastic, and my family of six had a day they will never forget."

  • "My friend and I reserved a table online for the big Seahawks parade. We got in as soon as the restaurant opened at 11am and were promptly escorted to our spot near the back. Once seated we were treated like queens by our wonderful server Tina. She helped us choose a most delicious selection of appetizers and cocktails. Even though we couldn't see the parade from our table, it was a great place to get out of the 20degree temps! Besides, they let us take our cocktails out to the area in front within he iron gates and we got some great views from there! It really was a day to remember and made that much more special with the great food and excellent service from our friends at McCormicks!!!"

  • "A new coworker and I dined here as an excuse to get away from the office and have a not so noticeable meeting. The place filled quickly on our rainy Seattle day and we were glad that we had reservations. There is a lunch menu that offers a little of this and a little of that... I had the chowder and side salad and she the hamburger and fires. Nice job on both dishes. The table server was very professional... someone who did her job well and enjoyed it. Nice touch. It was a very enjoyable and affordable lunch stop!"

  • "Our waiter, Tom was just obnoxious. He immediately pointed out the things on the menu that were his favorites. It is nice for a server to have an opinion but unless I ask him what he would recommend, I don't really care. He then began pushing the Landry's card, began to tell all the benefits, and asked it I had one. He came back a 2nd time before we ordered and again, pointed out a couple of other things that we should consider ordering. When he brought the bill, he dropped it off and 2 seconds later came by and picked it up thinking I had put my card in it. First off - I didn't really have time to do so, and usually the card would be peeking out of the top had I done so. I had to call to him to bring it back."
